to start it out just a simple shot of my car taken a few days ago. I'm hoping to do more shoots soon but being 117 degrees outside doesn't really give me the motivation to go out and shoot haha.

Oooo getting a dark glow off the car onto the pavement around it. Look out for that in Lightroom; I noticed it right away, and it makes it look really obviously touched up.

I like the your work, as you know, so I look forward to updates, especially that ultrawide you pull out every now and then.

Ahh thanks for pointing that out, it should be fixed now. It was my "clarity" setting, it gives that shadow.

Thanks :) This was taken with that same lens (I barley ever take it off) but this time it was at 22mm instead of 10.

dude, let me tell you you are one of the strong cards here, you are really, really, really good at shooting anything. your portrait sessions are awesome (the girls help, but good pctures help them more :D) and your automotive photo is also very very good.

Damn you, BTW. you have a car rig. I SO want one. I was going trought your gallery and some of the shots are very dramatic, The M3 looks as if it's at the end of the world.

and some awesome scenery... how come I never find places like that? I need to get out of this hellhole ¬¬

you need to post complete photoshoots of all those cars, I really need to see your whole work.

Thanks I try my best :) I find that the more I do the higher my "keep rate" is with these photos.

As far as my automotive work goes thats something I want to improve on. I'm hoping to get to follow along a pro soon and pick up a thing or two. Most of my shots tend to be very "artsy" which on one hand I like, but at the same time its not something you would really see in an automotive magazine. Thats one thing I want to work on. One of my inspirations is mike maez (www.mikemaez.com) I've been talkin to him about assisting on a shoot next time hes in the area.

Yes I have a car rig but the way it is right now I don't get much use out of it. I need to convert it to a suction cup rig because most of the cars I deal with are too low, and the pavement here in az is way too hot for me to be laying on the ground attaching clamps haha.

As far as locations I think its in the eye of the beholder. Trust me I live in the middle of the boonies, it all depends on the perspective your showing to the viewer. One thing I do sometimes is if i see a cool place Ill spend a few minutes driving out of my way to go check it out. Or google maps. I use the sat view to explore new areas, and live maps (http://maps.live.com/) has aerial maps that you can view from 4 different directions so it really gives you a nice tool to explore around you and find great locations.

I'll be shooting a new model tomorrow, as well as a widebody STI next week so keep an eye out.

In the meantime here is just a snapshot I took tonight

Awesome shots as usual, but I hope that Lavi doesn't get jealous that Brittany is using some of the same places for her pictures.

Great pictures, but def. not my type of model pictures. She apparently lacks the ability to change her facial expression.

Actually I found another run down place, but as soon as I got out there were like 6 dogs, big ones and they weren't wagging their tails, they were drooling and barking, so we left lol

She does, I'm just not big on the whole smiley thing lol

Your model looks much better with a smile. Otherwise I think she makes the pictures look boring.

oooooooooooooooohhh awesome STI and awesome shots!!! the first rolling snap is great.

Damn I'd kill to shoot something like that, did you shoot it for a mag or something? any detail shots? and above all, any specs?

what lens were you using in the first three shots?

I find them too overedited also, the sky is just too dark in the top for the light conditions in the car, and the front shots change way too much the colours of the car. Maybe that's why I liked the rolling shots more, because they let the real tones of the car be seen; composition-wise, I love the front end ones. Details!

No I shot it for fun, a local forum member just bought it. Although it has been on the cover of a mag and will be on another soon. As for specs its pretty much stock, it was a show car, he bought it and will now be adding more power to it =)

Same as usual 10-22 with polarizer

I guess I've been watching too much top gear, I've downloaded every episode and have been watching them a lot, so I kinda went happy with the vignetting and deep sky haha. I really wanted to shoot this car in the early morning however he lived rather far away and because of work and traffic he wasn't able to make it out till the middle of the day when it was over 100 degrees outside in bright hot sun. I really liked the matte red paint though, makes not having to worry about seeing yourself in the car really nice =)

Amazing photography as always. No engine bay pics on the STI?? And I must say, your portrait photography is really really good. What do you use for lighting?

Though one criticism that I have is the hdr on some of those modeling pics is just too much. That may just be my opinion though.

Edit and wait a minute, is that STI the same one that was featured in Import Tuner?? It looks exactly the same, just without the stickers.

I use only natural light, although in very rare cases I use my 580EXII

None of those photos are HDR its just the processing I do :)

And yes that is the same STI.

Here are some pics for our cruise through the twisties, sorry about the quality, I didn't really have time to mess with settings because I was driving while these were taken and it was the middle of the day so its the worst time for taking pics, dirty windshield and lens but whatever.

$8,000 12 piston caliper! :embarrassed:

Some nice shots there, the moving ones look awesome! However, I really don't like the settings used (Lightroom?) on the carpark shots, it makes the cars look almost cartoony and ruins the reflections in the black paintwork IMO.

Any chance of an upload of one of them looking standard?

My god my eyes.

Your postpro this time is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY over the top, it ruins the pictures in my opinion, and there are quite good car-to-car shots there.

Definitely, just a few oversharp edges need softening out on the cars and the building in the background and it'll be sorted. 👍

(E.G. between the 3rd and 4th cars. The white car has a sort of outline effect to it)

Sure, a friend.

I bet sexual tension builds up quite fast. That or its insanely awkward and tedious, hahaha

I’ll shoot someone one day to see, but I highly doubt it will be a scantily clad girl.

I really like most of the pictures, great illumination also, do you have extra lights or do you do it all with natural light (except the obvious one with the strobe?)

I ask because my wife recently shot a friend of hers and she was really fighting with light (first full-on 12 pm sun, then cloudy) and she really suffered.

She is a friend but I've actually known her brother longer than I've known her. I actually first met sara about a week ago through some common friends.

Actually its funny because you would expect it to be awkward especially with wardrobe changes on top of a mountain and sometimes needing help, but actually there wasn't any. This girl, like many of the ones I shoot is a Romanian girl from my church, she knows some of the other girls I've worked with and knows that I'm not there with any of the wrong ideas. This is actually one of the reasons I highly prefer to work with either people I know, or people that are referred to me through friends. The last girl I shot Brittany I met on myspace but she knew my brother, it was the same situation with her and wardrobe changes, I like to establish a comfort level with my models, because when they are comfortable, there is no tension, and the photos turn out much better.

I use all natural light, my only artificial source would be the 580exII flash mounted on my camera. I prefer to shoot very early in the AM (this time we started at 4 so we could climb to the top) I find am light to be more gentle and pleasing in color than sunset, plus here in the desert its much cooler. Lighting however is something I still need to work on some more. I'm on the fence about buying strobes because then thats just one more variable that I have to worry about, and more gear I have to lug up to wherever location I'm going to shoot.

Sorry for the late reply, the pictures turn out great with those light conditions, tripod FTW; very good composition on most of them, what lenses do you use? They’re crystal clear and perfectly in focus, wich for that light is more difficult than it seems, specially with the intense DOF you manage to get (wich, on second thought, is easier than it seems because everything is so far away).

I also like early light, most cases I shoot at around 7:00 am to get the sunrise light on the cars, or late in the evening, at around 5:00, to get that yellow low light.

I used my 50mm 1.8, 70-200 2.8L IS, and my 10-22, all shots were handheld, I barley ever touch my tripod.

I have another shoot coming up soon :)
