Dear fellow racing (online) gamers.

Who is best, the athlete that swims (or runs, or jumps, or does whatever ONE OTHER THING) faster/better/higher than anyone else?

Or the athlete that swims, runs, shoots, rides, jumps, throws .... and is not the best at any of those things BUT ... is good in all of them, in fact there's no other person as good in ALL of them?

Well, this is an interesting debate, but not in the Supercar Challenge forum

BUT ... the question was put to make you guys understand what I have in mind. A multi-game, multi-track event.

I bet this is an organizational nightmare, and probably uninteresting also, but I plan to start it very simply with ONE question:

How many of these PS3 racing games do you guys have?

- F1: CE
- Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
- Ferrari Challenge
- NFS: Shift
- V8 Superstars
- Supercar Challenge

All of them have something you won't find in others. And I'm talking tracks here, not the differences in cars, series, features, etc.

I'd say that it is not probable that any of us has ALL games. I come close, only missing F1:CE :indiff:

V8 SS is also a game only very few of you guys own, but I'm not sure about your intentions concerning V8 SS : Next Challenge, due to be released later this month, at least in Europe.

My safest bet is that almost 100% of the guys here, even if they live in the other side of the Atlantic, own:

- GT5: Prologue (why did you guys come to gtplanet in the first place? :sly: )

- Ferrari Challenge (Tiff Needell, card game, you didn't resist this awesomeness, did you? :D )

- Supercar Challenge (if you don't have it - and you are not a mod in surveillance mode - what are you doing in this subforum? :dopey: )

- NFS: Shift (come on, admit it guys, you bought the game ... :mischievous: )

So ... could it be possible to get a few guys for a multi-game one-night challenge?

Is it something that interests you?

Add your voice/oppinion, call me crazy if you must, but don't stay quiet.

And please state what games you own already and if you plan on buying V8 SS: Next Challenge

Hi, i am in the nfs shift forum mostly as that is all i play.
but i do have all those games you listed, i like to buy any game that goes with my g25.

I have not played most of them much but i would be willing to practice and join in.

Not so much for the v8SS, think its way to easy i had all assists off and 1st time on the game and i did not crash once, i was really disappointed :grumpy:
lets hope the next one is better.

hi mario
It could be fun.I'm interested.
I have
FC
SCC
gt5P
needforspeed shift
And I can borrow grid if it comes to that.

I was thinking of buying v8ss.

Thanks for your replies. I added a poll and also added Race Driver: Grid to it just to check on how many people have it. Don't forget Grid has LE MANS, even with arcadish behaviour it might be fun *to throw it into the mix.

* or not ...

FC and SCC are too similar to count them as separate games; SCC is just a superset of FC, in terms of cars/circuits (and not much else).

Grid is closer to Wipeout, than an actual racing game. I bought the game and gave up very quickly.

I don't have Shift or F1CE. So I would do a mix of SCC and GT5P.

Personally, I would happily shelf SCC, plug in the PS2 and enjoy some Toca Race Driver 3; Formula1000, Formula3, GT Lights, Zandvoort, Oulton Park etc. Far, far superior physics, online play, and general features and functionality. I would seriously do some online races with it. But probably not enough interest.

Mr Hog...what are you doing in these shores..ahn...???👍
Glad to see round here mate,so you have scc and never said anything he!!!
You sneaky *******....LOOOL:P :odd:
Hope to race you also on this...👍
I sold all my old racing games(f1,gt5p,grid,dirt1,ssv8,etc) but i borrowed back gt5p after the TT fever and i can do the same with ssv8,but i think i'll just wait ssv8 next challenge to come out...

Interesting setup Mario... I would be interested in joining this... I have most of the games except V8 Superstars:

- F1: CE
- Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
- Ferrari Challenge
- NFS: Shift
- Supercar Challenge

Hi Mario!

This can actually be interesting...

From the listed games I have only GT5:P and SCC. I will most likely buy V8SS:Next Challenge as soon as it comes out (although I'm in a MAG'ish fever at the moment), and I love to have F1:CE but... I'm unable to find it anywhere (even in resale shops).

As for the Shi(f)t thing... I sold it next to a few PS2 games and bought Modern Warfare 2 instead (and really, driving that snow-mobile in MW2 isn't that different in handling a car in shift...)

I have a stupid question though... How would you organize races in GT5:P if it a matchmaking only process?

hi Mario!
I have supercar challenge, need for speed pro street..... and gt5 p for ps3,ferrari challenge sold for buying SCC :ill:
for pc I also have gtr evo , rfactor 👍
I believe I will buy' superstars v8 next challenge 💡

what I don't have and' enough time to play.....:guilty::ouch:

Hi Mario

That looks and sounds funny. " Interesting" PS : I have all games that you talk about.

wow, this got more interest than I had anticipated. :)

I'll try to reply to all questions so far

Hi! I'm afraid that either you did something wrong with the settings or I have a problem of being hopeless in that game, because in Simulation Mode, all assists off (and tyre wear on), AI set to "Legend" ... I find it very hard to follow the pace of the AIs, and even harder to get a pole position or win a race, unless you use ALL the time you have available in Free Practise 1 and 2 to test the car, tune it and learn each track. Best offline mode of all games so far, with a real championship to deal with. 👍

Henrik, don't buy the current V8 SS and save the money to buy V8 SS Next Challenge, due this month. About GRID, considering how few of us have it I guess the best solution is to take it out of the mix.

Agree on the FC/SCC issue. However, FC has a proper Misano, something SCC is lacking.

Also agree about GRID, biggest dissapointment I ever had with racing games. Anyway and wiothout further ponderation, considering how so few of us have it, I'll drop the idea of including it in this

About F1:CE it's the same with me, can't find it for sale anywhere.

Pity you sold Shift, but I think you can get it very cheap in a GAME shop (Colombo?), it is my intention to include it in whatever crazy event I make up in the future, especially considering it has the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

About GT5:P ... aren't you in the GTP Registry? I thought you were familiar with the "how to meet" procedures in GT5P. Not easy or infalible, but it can be worked out, I'd say with a maximum of 8 players (and we need luck). A smaller group of 4 to 5 players has no trouble meeting online in GT5P.

Hi Mario

That looks and sounds funny. " Interesting" PS : I have all games that you talk about.

Then please vote in the poll Bjorn, I need to have a clear idea about who has what games. :)

...

Considering the votes casted so far, it is clear that the mixed event will feature at least GT5P and SCC. But ... I would really like to include Shift and V8 SS: Next Challenge also so I ask all to consider your options about borrowing/buying or in whatever other way to get these games (except stealing  ).

I don't think I made myself clear about one aspect of this event. It won't be something that goes on through multiple nights. It will be done in one night, playing all games, doing all races in quick succession.

Of course, if successful, we can repeat, and with different mixes of races and games to use.

I have done this once, a long time ago, when I challenged GTP_ENERGIYA to a mixed match of FC and SCC (ENERGIYA was usually faster than me in FC, but the opposite was also true - at that particular time - in GT5P).

Just for you guys to read what happened, check this:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112827&highlight=Suzuka&page=10

(Energyia's post #186 started it all  , just read from that post onwards)

I have all of these games. I am thinking about V8 Next Challenge. But I will not buy it at the release day. I have also another game "Hot Juiced Import". But this is more arcadish and I didnt play it in the last months. As far as I know it has an Online Mode, but I dont know if the servers are online yet.

Well, here's an idea. I think you should take it a step further and truly exploit each game's finer....attributes and include them in this match.

F1:CE - Honestly, this game is effectively out since NTSC versions of this game were region coded and can no longer be played on-line. The alternatives are to either accept entires from PAL players only or have a simultaneous off-line race where both participants use the honor system and post their results. (Those who have played this game know which car to use so it will be the most interesting team battle since the Hamilton/Alonso pit fiasco in Hungary).

GT5:Prologue - Let's have a race with the Suzuki Cappuccino at Suzuka. Oh wait, that's not on the list. OK, how about the Ford GT on N1 tires at Fuji! Oh, that's not currently up either. Ahh, London! And in REVERSE! Pure awesomeness! Now remember to sync your PS3's clock, when the time says 21:39.17 push X! GO! GO! GO! Oh, and just ignore all those other people. Oh, one punted you, well (heh-heh) those are the breakes. Too much trouble to do it all over again.

Ferrari Challenge - Now we're talking. Any car, any track. Whoever is leading before the lobby collapses, wins! Or whoever is leading after 3 laps. Which ever comes first. (Bouncing cars will be disqualified)

NFS: Shift - How about a race in which the spirit of the game is taken into consideration. So stay off that racing line, forget about hitting the apex--let's WORK UP those aggression points boys: Dirty overtake, spin an opponent, take an opponent 'out' and brake checking are the order of the day. Make a prank phone call and kick the cat--it's ALL about having fun.

V8 Superstars - Ahh, my favorite! Forget about settings--they won't stick. And put away those wheels, they go dead after a few seconds anyway. Pull out the controller and get ready for pure central axis turning action as we experience sim-car handling from 1999.

Supercar Challenge - Supercar Challenge is unique on this list in that NO race will actually take place. It's a battle of will, luck and technical prowess. Two men enter, one man leaves. If you're lucky enough to stay in the lobby for 3 minutes, you win. Whoever was kicked out loses. If in the unlikely event, both players are still in the lobby after 3 minutes--call it a draw.

Rules subject to interpretation. ;)

F1CE:
Had luck and got it cheap. Used PAL versions are quite expensive now - out of print and NTSC servers are gone. The game has an ugly motion blur when turning that cannot be switched off.
It has a LAN mode (missing from so many games nowadays) so you could work around dead servers.
If Codemasters screw up again this might be the last good F1 game for a long time.

GT5P, FC, SCC:
Got them all. The 60 fps of GT5P give so much more immersion.
Unfortunately GT5P is the only game with 60fps of all games listed here.
Why did PD exclude lobbies from GT5P...

GRID:
Didn't buy. The game is a failure, awful to drive, neither sim nor arcade.

V8 Superstars :
Thought about getting it when it became cheap but decided against.
No mirror, no cockpit view, no exciting cars and tracks, no patches/support, few people online and the demo didn't convince me.

V8 Superstars: Next Challenge:
I don't expect much improvement from V8. It has got mirrors, but only in cockpit view as far as I have seen. Might get it if it's improved enough and has become cheap.

Need for Speed: Shift
Will get it somewhere in the future. Why not yet:
Mandatory installation, copy protected savegame and bigger frame rate issues on PS3 combined with the strange exaggerated "safe oversteering" driving model won't let my money go to EA easy and early.
Thought about buying the better Xbox360 version but I don't want to pay for XBL Gold.

Honestly, this game is effectively out since NTSC versions of this game were region coded and can no longer be played on-line.
The game is without regional lockout like all PS3 games. Just the servers are different for each version.

Who dared to vote without owing SCC ?

@Hun200kmh
What about making it even more complicated and include Xbox360 games Forza, PGR and Race Pro? Just joking...

Drivatar i agree in every point you made(but the primary fault for me is the arcadish handling) but the lack of interesting cars/tracks.GT cars were always my favourite motorsport( ahh TOCA1) alongside with wrc) and they have all licences for the next challenge version (Chevrolet Lumina CR8,mercedes ,etc),as to the tracks adding to some nice italian tracks you already know from scc:Vallelunga,Monza,Muggello,Misano(way more interesting version of the track than scc) and others unique in the game-Magione,Varano,Adria(toca)- it has two of the most challenging tracks in the world: KYALAMY and PORTIMAO...:)

So let's wait for next challenge and hope major improvements( i'm so ceptickal about this...:indiff: ) were made since the 1st version...:dopey:

We are getting interesting results. Taking into account that this is the SCC forum, I think FC and SCC figures are clearly exagerated, they should be well below Shift's figures and I guess they will until the poll closes.

Anyway, I guess it is obvious that EVERYONE in gtplanet has GT5P, even if all our copies are now gathering dust somewhere in a shelf.

Shift is my best bet for second place, with third being discussed between F1, FC and SCC

GRID and V8 Superstars, for different reasons, are clearly owned by minorities.

V8 Next Challenge clearly has the oportunity to do better than the original V8 game, especially if it becomes confirmed that we will still have many months of waiting until GT5.

Hope to race you also on this...👍

:lol: i think i will get smoked on anything other than shift, i have pretty much every game that works with the g25 steering wheel bar one or two i think sega rally is one of them, i even have ridge racer 7
what makes it worse is that i have all these games for my g25 but i have only played each one once or twice, i was waiting for the fun of nfs shift to wear off but it shows no signs of doing that so i think i best start playing the other games:lol:

Well its more to do with the way the game feels with the g25, it all just feels too easy maybe if there was more option for g25 custom settings it would be better, i will give my controller a try with it.

Dam i have so meany games i need to get good on so i stand a chance of keeping up.

I hope nfs shift is included in this as it is a good game with a massive range of cars and tracks, and iits no were near as arcade like as grip is although its not dead on like the real thing i still think it would be good to include.
That and the fact that shift is all i play on

@THE HOG - I use a G25 myself, so I think it can't be that. I think most probably the problem was this, as reported by jonboy a long time ago:

jonboy1066
A lot of people have said that and dismissed this game too soon.

They've got the settings wrong!

I only found this because I was playing with the settings while trying to make it playable for my 7 Year old son.

When you select Driving Assists in the options You can select between "Arcade" and "Simulation", at the top, under where it says Driving aids and above where it says TCS.

If you then change the assists in the chosen mode it becomes "Custom"

However if you -for instance- have "Arcade Style" selected then turn off assists the Style will still be "Customised Arcade"

Whereas if you have "Simulation Style" selected then change an auto gearbox for manual the style will be "Customised Simulation"

The two different styles create a very different driving experience. I can go 10 seconds a lap faster in Custom Arcade than I can in Custom Simulation. And I've tested it on my Son set with Custom Arcade Assists ON and Custom Simulation Assists ON and he can barely drive in Sim where he drives pretty well in Arcade.

Quote taken from here:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3434410&postcount=126

So, in Short, you have two options:

1. Arcade - All assists Off

The game only tells you that you are with "Custom" settings, but you are, as jonboy put it, in "customized arcade"

2. Simulation - All assists Off

Again, the game only tells you that you are with custom settings, but you are, as jonboy put it, in "customized simulation"

According to jonboy, the difference for him was about 10 seconds per lap ...

Thanks for that, maybe i have dismissed this game a bit too easily ok i will give it a go now and see what i come up with,

about the upcoming SSv8 next challenge, the demo is out on 360, and what i am hearing from ppl playing it,
...they say that thear are minor improvements in the graphics and handling, compared to the previouse version, thear are lack of feel for the car and the sense of speed, the drying track feature is good, and the game locks definetly beter in the trailer than actualy playing it.

so it is no revolution, just a evolution with one new feature, (evolving track surface) and litle to none improvements in som other areas.

Just for the laugh, any SCC users want to do some GT5P racing this evening? Would be interesting to see how the regulars here do in that game.

Although I'm fed up with GT5P pad handling, I'm also fed up with FC/SCC poor physics engine; GT5P at least has realistic car handling, whereas SCC for pad users is just totally unrealistic, and very unchallenging.

HI alan
Go buy a wheel and try the game as it surposed to be played.👍

Nice race-meet last night at Suzuka with Alan, Bullie and Estadios. Sometimes it is refreshing to try - or re-visit - a different game.

Of course a few things don't change though, and Alan's speed is one of them ;)

I think the Pentathlon Event will happen and I'm almost certain SCC, Shift, GT5P and V8 SS: Next Challenge will be used so start your engines, get (buy or borrow) your games, learn your tracks ... I just hope Suzuka becomes world event in the next line up of online events (in GT5P).

EDIT - Check this out. Although it is the Xbox version, looks nice ... only thing I strongly dislike here is the AI (the way Gabellini sticks to the line no matter what in the straight leading to the Parabolica is worrying to say the least)

As for the GT5:P races yesterday they were quite enjoyable. Its a shame I recently started a new save on GT and we weren´t able to go for the Expert events. Hopefully this will be settled this night.

Alan is Alan, no matter what game we are in... I was happy with my performance though, and I was able to keep up the pace 👍

As for the V8SS-NC, the matter you mention could be understand as aggressive defending it's line/position... what worrys me is the fact that guy get a 9 seconds gap in just one lap - hopefully it was Arcade mode.

Oh it was arcade and AI set on easy I have no doubt. I know that you guys keep getting conflicting reports about the speed of the AI in V8 SS, but if you go to the "game thread" (link: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=116533) you'll notice most players say it's good or very good.

I specifically suggest you read carefully posts #279 (from me) and #280 (from J-PaP, Div 2 Gold in the registry). I liked the game, he didn't. However there's one thing in common. The AI is SECONDS per lap faster than any of us when we started playing the game.

Also, check this post (and video) by Hereward, another well-known gtplanet member and once a FC regular. It shows you AI on Legend, at Portimão. According to him, he started in 10th and ended in 14th ... LOL

Well yesterday i spent ll day on all my racing games i here is my verdict.

SCC
scc is good but has been over done way too far.
i can tell you for a dam fact now i could drive a real car round a corner at 40mph with no under steer what so ever and i know that a ferrari enzo would do the same but for some reason you get under steer at low speed on this game you have to come rite of the throttle. i think this game would have been a lot better with a better physics engine.

V8SS
i tried and tried and tried with this game and although the game is perfectly playable i find it to be devoid of any feel with my g25 no matter what mode i have it on Sim custom, arcade custom list all the same the game has no g25 setting at all.
this game would have been so much better if they had not used a basic layout for the g25, with more digestibility option like dead zone, sensitivity, turning lock etc etc i feel this game could have been a top competitor.

f1ce
yet again the same with this game, the lack of adjust ability in the g25 leaves my wheel feeling devoid of feel.
altho i will say that the physics are a lot better in this to V8SS.

GTP5
what can i say it has its flaws but compared to the likes of V8SS its the best game in the world

NFS SHIFT
in my opinion its a fabulous game its got the hint of realism with out being to real, as with most game it has its flaws but all i can say is 90% of the time i enjoy playing shift.

Altho my comments on some of these games may seem bad, i dont find them bad games there more than playable and that is good enuf for me.
