Wallbanger's 1st annual million credit FF Summer Shootout!(6/19/11 final 7/17/11)

For those who give a fack, C-ZETA's tune has been given a run……………

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=5471490

1 down, 3 to go…

Remember, TCS 1, ABS 1, Steering Sensitivity 7. Everything else off.

There is actually a full version of the Mirage that I was planning on releasing in my garage. It's hardly any different in terms of stats, but they are improved. Think of it as a DLC for it.

Oh, well I did that to make things fairer for the tests, I'll re-run it later, with those settings.

And yay! Hyper bonkers microcar Ver. 02 FTW!! :D

Hey tuners, just out of idle curiosity. Why no Golf GTIs? They seem like they should be able to keep up on paper.

Hey tuners, just out of idle curiosity. Why no Golf GTIs? They seem like they should be able to keep up on paper.

The ones I tested just didn't seem to have enough top end.
I pretty much passed on any car that wasn't able to reach around 150mph on the straight.

Ok. A little bit of advice needed here. I've just run a very anomalous lap. Way quicker than anything else. In a car that probably shouldn't be capable of the time in my hands. The only thing that I can see that might have caused it is that the car is shared from one of the tuners, and is shared well above the pp limit. I've used the limiter as per the tuners post, but I really think that I shouldn't be seeing that time (about 4-5 secs faster that I was expecting).:nervous:

The question is, even though the PP shows as correct, is it actually right, or has something slipped through with too much power?

Or have I just found the car of my dreams.

Ignore me. I've just realised it also has RS shoes on..........

Who's car was it? If it was Maf's Accord, check the tyres. They were set on racing tyres when it was put on share.

Yeah, apologies boys, was messing about with it before I put it on share and forgot to take the Racing Softs off, so yeah, just swap it to Sport Softs. :)

Rats, I could've got another 5 seconds off d2's time!!

Lol shiftiest plan

I had to take a quick break from driving all these things. Took some pics of my new Jag, finished the AMG special event finally and setup my first B-Spec 24h Nurburgring run. When that is done I'll finish the last few initials and get on to second runs. 👍

tris_73’s FF Shootout Results

Each tune was given 10 flying laps regardless whether a lap was clean or not. I did intend to do a second run for each tune, but unfortunately due to me forgetting that I had family coming from interstate, I’ve run out of time.

I use a DFGT on manual, ABS on 1, and grip reduction on real.

Times and small write-ups follow, not necessarily in the order they were tested in. If I had to alter slightly (power limiter) settings to achieve the PP restriction, it's listed in the write-up. I’ve used the best language I can to describe what was going on, let me know if you want me to try to clarify anything I’ve said.

Oh, and thanks very much to the tuners, and organisers. It's beed a blast.

Binned it on the first corner, not a good sign. Squirruly under braking, also under heavy accel. Turns in really well when speed is accurate, a bit too fast and the opposite wall approaches very fast. Took a few laps to really get the hang of it. Pushes wide in high speed cornering. Note to self, must remember to brake in a straight line. A tap of brake while the front wheels are at any angle will see you in the wall.

Not quite able to hit the required number for first gear. Think this has something to do with mph - kph translation. (.00x out to the high side)

Very consistent times when I was able to keep them in the green. A bit too easy to make them red though. Found it a little hard to hit my normal lines through the high speed sections. Turn in under mild power was great. After minor understeer after braking, a touch of accelerator sits the car on the apex perfectly. Fairly easy to spin the wheels after a low gear corner.

5th gear, what 5th gear? Seriously, buckets of torque, buckets of wheelspin. Seems to work however. Seems very slow while driving, but the times proved otherwise. Didn’t have to fight much to get it to corner properly. I’m positive that with more time, I could make this a second of so faster.

Another quick ITR. Seems to be the way things are shaping for me. Handling was good, but still pushed wide in sweeping corners. Found myself having to short change 3rd to 4th after 3rd gear corners to prevent the wheels from lighting up. It really seemed to like the smell of it’s own tyre smoke. If this could be stopped (either different driver, or slight adjustment to LSD?) this could be a bullet.

Very hard to apply power. Bad understeer under power in high speed corners. Corners well in low speed corners. Could be quicker for me, with the extra parts attached which don’t affect pp.

Wow. Fantastic job done with this one. Very controllable and shows in consistent 2:02 to very low 2:03 times. Little to no wheel spin, I think due to a well spaced gearing. This tune allows a little complacency in the driver, as it will stick to lines and allows very late braking.

Jackthalad - Honda Integra Type R (DC5) '04

This is my favorite ITR. Not quite the quickest, but the easiest to drive. Wheelspin? Yeah, just a little. Understeer? Not so’s you’d notice. The gearing is spaced perfectly for my cornering ability. I like. Alot.

Dylans1o - Mitsubishi FTO GPX '94
Tested @ 3552km (borrowed)

Sorry, I just couldn’t make this go fast. I can’t put my finger on any good reason why though. I really did like the way it made me concentrate on lines, without the niggling thought that I might be spat off at any given moment. I found it very hard to not have massive amounts of wheelspin going from 2nd to 3rd, and it always seemed to be at the point of loosing all grip, but never really did.

Rotary Junkie - Mazda Atenza Sport 25Z '07

Solid and dependable. It might be fat, but it’s fat in a good way. Like santa claus. It cornered exceptionally well with the wheels only spinning under protest after jamming the accelerator a little to early. Very forgiving of sudden changes of direction. Seemed easy to achieve consistent 2:02s. Has to be my favorite so far.

C-ZETA - Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg
Tested @ 23568km (borrowed)

Kudos for picking something a base a little off-centre. Sorry I couldn’t make it go a little quicker. I think that the narrow power band has a lot to do with that. I just couldn’t put it on the line where I wanted to in the gear it needed to be in. No wheelspin, and only a little understeer are pluses though

This is just an animal. Very hard to tame. I had more red laps than green in my allotment for this car. Every green one was however, well under 2:02. It’s very twitchy. The most minute steering input could create (dare I say it) something akin to oversteer, and god forbid you might need to correct a mistake. It is a fun drive though, in the way that (insert something masochistic here) might be fun.

This is a great ride. Although it seems to be lacking in grip, I didn’t need to fight to get it pointed in the right direction. Another that needs judicious use of the accelerator coming out of any corner. Mitsubishi, WTF is with that 5th gear?

A pleasure to drive. It goes where you tell it to go, when you tell it to go there. There of course is some understeer under braking, and some wheelspin with premature acceleration. I can’t help but wonder though, how many tenths are lost to being on the limiter in 6th for 2/3rds of the front straight.

Power. Power all the time. Thought that might have made it a little quicker than it was for me. Suffered a little through lack of grip I think, although cornering capability was very stable lap after lap (the tyre marks were always in the same place).

cool-dude3007 - Honda Civic Type R '08

This is probably the best handling CTR in terms of it’s steering and ride. Obviously not the quickest, although if it stopped wallowing in it’s own tyre smoke and got on with the job it could be. To paraphrase Murray Walker ‘spin, spin, spin’.

d24689 - Honda Accord '03
Tested @ 11378km (borrowed)
Time 2:04.249
Well that’s a very gentle way of doing it. Felt like I was in the base car. A very comfortable upper end family car. There’s a bit too much understeer in the lower gear high speed corners such as before the second tunnel. I didn’t find too much wheelspin which was a pleasant surprise.

Acan - Honda Civic Type R '08

Another quick CTR. Seemed a little unstable in high speed corners, particularly the final corner. I found I had to lift off more than normal to come around here safely. Unfortunately didn’t really suit me. It occurs to me that the suspension may be a little soft for my style.

Brave Bear - Honda Integra Type R (DC5) '04

A very gentlemanly treatment for the DC5. Easy and nice handling. It took me a little while to get used to the spacing between 2nd and 3rd. It seemed to really bog down in 3rd on up-shift, and I regularly found myself on the limiter in 2nd when I thought it was time to down-shift. I also felt I really wanted 7th on the long straight.

shmogt - Dodge SRT4

I had high hopes for this one, and I wasn’t disappointed. The most consistent yet. The lap times fell every lap, hundredth by hundredth. Very stable and easy to drive. A little wheelspin was encountered after some low speed corners (probably my fault). The gearing seems spaced well for this track.

Basilea - Trial Celica '03

Hmm. Easy. Too easy compared to the others tested so far. Almost a full second faster effortlessly. Seems a little wrong, but I don’t make the rules. Great drive though. Heaps of available power. Almost no understeer of wheelspin. I would like to know if anyone can make the standard similar Celica in the game go this fast.

I agree with tris_73 ,the mazda is perfectly equilibrate, no wheel spin, don't seems a FF .. realy amazing to drive.
I'm happy that my iintegra stay in this position after the 2 celica trials.

I think the -Honda accord coupe EX '03- and the -Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6 24V '04- must have they chance another time. I discover those cars too late, but they are very close to the integra. Nobody choose them... Next time.

Thanks for the review , great job, when you look all this cars you realise the time testers must spend with all of them.
Bravo.

Thanks for the reviews, seems the Testers had quite a job to do.

I'll just explain why people are having trouble with my first gear value. You see when I built the car it was at 340hp with ballast. I's because I'm on 1.06 and PP is affected by tire selection, I was lead to believe I was at the right PP, but in fact I was far under. I was basically overweight and under powered. However I only found out after I posted my Tune. I had to go with a bigger turbo (less mid range Torque) & remove the ballast to get the car to 500pp without adjusting the Tune :( after the Shootout I'll adjust the car. I didn't want to before because it wouldn't be fair for me to adjust my Tune involved in the Shootout until the Shootout is done.

It was designed around 30kg of ballast & more mid range torque, less top end hp. The gearing went off when I had to swap turbos and remove the Power Limiter.

Got me once too.
On the straight headed towards the finish line in only 1:51 I figured something must not be right. :D
Now I'm wondering what it would have ran...

This is great and I am learning so much from reading the reviews. Taking it all in and will use it to improve.
Seems I need to learn how to tune the gears.
To be fair, though I kept the stock tranny because I got my best time with it. (probably because my tunes for it sucked lol)
Thanks so much to everybody for making this a success! Tuners testers and especially mr. wallbanger

Well as they say the fastest one isn't always the best one :(

Mine's probably the worst :D But at least it seems the most challenging to drive well. :mischievous:

Also I have the actual tune for the Mirage coming up soon in my garage, and I've had to take it offline briefly as a result. Trust me, the true Mirage tune will be much, much better than the one you see here :D Just don't use it here.

Praiano, d2's car IS the Accord Coupe EX '03. Maybe you should take another look. ;)

Well C-Zeta i think for the car you chose the tune did amazingly well..

But for me well... FF isn't really my favorite type to tune.. :(

Oups...!! yes you're right, i don't know why, i thought it was a Accord Euro R '02 ,since the begining. I have also this one. For the same pp,500 pp, the Euro is 24 hp more and 77 kg less than the '03, but still more slow ...???? don't understand that.

I have the Coupe EX '03 and it's as fast as my integra ,very very close 200 '".

I have put it online for who want to check.

Loving the times there CSL!! Can't believe you got worse in the 2nd run with the Civic though, that was a shock to me......I was expecting you to rip up a 2.02.2 with it on that second run. I'm quite happy with the results, the feedback from you guys shows that although the times could be improved, the general consensus is that you guys enjoyed the cars, and that's all I wanted to hear. :)

What I'm finding funny is that one driver says that the wheelspin is controllable, while another says it's too much. Keep the rpm's down with the big motor cars, wring the neck out of the Civic. :D
