I love this car. It's a 1993 240sx SE Fastback 5-sp. I've only got a short ram intake, Magnaflow hi-flow cat, strut bars, NGK plugs + wires CD player and a hardcore tune up on it right now.

Nice purchase, judging by your name and choice of car I suppose you are going to turn this into a drifter?

One idea: Try and replace those seats with some good old fixed lightweight bucket seats ASAP (Lightweight and sturdiness is vital when drifting) as those seats just scream 80's to me.

Looking forward to seeing more pics of your car when you've gone further with it.

Looks good... Check out the link in my sig, to see pics of my "93 S13 coupe... GT Pro is right. The stock S13 seats are just plain terrible. I replaced mine (well, the drivers side at least), with a Sparco Speed bucket seat. I bought it used off Ebay for $150. It made quite a big difference.

Oh, and be careful with the body work. S13's are uni-body cars, meaning, it will be expensive to fix any body damage. My passenger side quarter panel was damaged (by an uninsurred driver). It didn't look all that bad, but all the shops I took it to wanted to charge upwards of $3200. Unibody cars are tough to do body work on, because you have to cut and weld body panels in. Everything is one piece. I learned that the hard way. My car is finaly going to be back in my garage in a few days after a LOOONG time of dicking around with body shops. I'll take some pics of my newly painted and fixed S13, as soon as I get it back. Unfortunately, I had to sell my new coilovers to pay for the work. Oh well, I'll buy them again later in the year.

Good luck with your ride. If you treat her right, she'll give you a lot of driving pleasure. If you don't, she'll cost you a lot of money.

Oh yeah, It's def a fun car to drive. I just hate that anchor......I mean KA24DE. haha.

My plans are to get Tien S-tech springs over KYB AGX shocks, S/T sway bars, I want an LSD and I'm still torn over welding my open diff or not in the mean time. I just absolutely despise peg legging open diffs. I hated it in my old 84 300z and I hate it in this car. Anyways in the extreme distant future when I've got the loan payed off (1800 left after interest) I'll go KA-T with it.

And yeah, I agree on the seats. I was actually debating going to the junk yard and getting some recaro's out of a 80's model Z car like the ones my old Z had. They held me MUCH better.

But yeah, daily driven car, so no, I'm not going to turn it into a full on track car, but I still want it to handle a bit better and not have so damn much body roll. Instability is the only thing that scares me.

In the mid 90's, car manufacturers were forced to make a decision. Install airbags, or electronic seatbelts... Nissan went with the electronic seatbelts, to save money. Personaly, I am very glad they did. If an airbag goes off by accident. Say you are drifting, and hit something. The cost of replacing the airbag is astronomical... Also, in my area, they are cracking down on seatbelt laws... I never have to worry about it, because my car puts my seatbelt on for me...

Oh yeah, It's def a fun car to drive. I just hate that anchor......I mean KA24DE. haha.

I'm actually suprised to hear that. I must have one of the most perfect condition KA24DE's around, but mine is quite fast, and has helped me win a couple drift comps in my area. All I have done is replace all the fluids with Redline synthetic oils, changed the wires and plugs, installed an Apexi intake with K&N filter, and removed my cat... Still, my plans are definitely to replace the engine with an SR20DET red top (which I will install myself, at school), but not until I'm done playing with my KA24DE...

If you're planning on doing any drifting, or track racing with the car (even canyon runs) I would suggest staying away from spring and shock combos... If you're on Nico, head over to the marketplace, and buy some Ksport Kontrol Pro coilovers for $695 (usually $1200 on Ksports website)... It's about the same price as the shock and spring combo, but you get a hell of a lot better performance from them... I had them on my car for a few days, but then I had to sell them to help pay for body work (stupid uninsurred drivers!)... Fantastic coilovers for the price... I actually had 8/6kg progressive springs installed (at the Ksport factory) for no charge!!! It was a limited time Nico promotion... If you go with a spring and shock combo, you're always going to regret it... I went with such a setup on my S13 (Tein and KYB's), and it just wasn't the improvement I thought it would be, which is why I finally decided to upgrade to coilovers, and I'm glad I did... As soon as I get my car back from the body shop (a few days), I will save up to buy another set of Ksports...

I was definately going to do the SR20DET swap eventually when I still had mine. Dumbarse just got their license driver didn't wanna look both ways and drove out right in front of me :'(. The KA24DE was a nice engine, ran well, but it was the same engine my best friend had in his Hardbody truck from the same year, :lol:.

I have a '93 Hardbody Pickup, with the KA24E... It's a nice little workhorse, but it's painfully slow... The KA24DE in my much lighter S13 frame, makes for a much more exciting experience... The B&M shortshifter, and ACT type II clutch, help a lot too... Great fun, racing and drifting... Although, I'm going to be just driving her around for a few months, until I can afford a few new sets of tires, and a bunch of fluids...

My motors got Castrol Synthetic in it and a New Coil, Cap, Rotor, Plugs & Plug wires (NGK), O2 sensor, Coolant temp sensor, clean MAF and tb, new fuel filter, ran fuel injector cleaner + octane boost for 3 straight fillups, short ram intake w/blue K&N filter (blue oil = blue filter :) ), removed AIV from intake, Magnaflow hi-flow cat, new clutch...............AND IT STILL BOGS OUT LIKE CRAZY :grumpy: :ouch:

I just don't know what to do anymore.........the only thing I haven't done is check the timing on it and it's in the factory locations so I don't see how it'd be off. It gives no codes and doesn't stumble or miss or anything.......it just lacks power. It feels good till about half throttle, then it's just bogs down till I hit 4500.....pulls good from 4500-6500 but before that it wont do crap. It still feels like it could do better over 4500 even. I can't even catch 2nd unless I'm turning. Going up steep hills I have to downshift and really get on it compared to my old Z. It doesn't burn or leak oil and it was owned by a very anal old man before me so I know he kept up with oil changes and didn't drive it hard.......

I always assumed it's just cause of the 4 cyl compaired to a V6.....you know lacking torque down low. But why does it bog down when I go to full throttle unless i'm over 4500rpm?? :odd:
 
Wow, lucky...There isn't alot of 180sx around Central Cali. I wished there was. But anyways, Im hoping that I can go to San Fran or San jose, hopfully getting a 180sx:tup: Good stuff, man 👍
 
180SX are from Japan wouldnt doubt it if there werent to many around anywhere in the US.

What NK most likely means is a hatchback 240sx, which are not at all uncommon in the US.

Have you thought of checking the fuel pump, and/or fuel filter... That could definitely cause the bogging down you are referring to.

It's definitely not the difference between a 4 banger and a v6. With minor mods, I eat V6's for breakfast. Power to weight is very important, and V6's are generaly quite heavy. Not to mention the KA24DE has quite a lot of torque in the low end. This is why it can also be seen in some Nissan Hardbody Trucks (although, not mine)...

If all else fails, take your car in to a reputable shop, and have them run some tests, and/or tune her up.

Sometimes.....not legally though. haha. I have to pay a ticket for "driving too fast for conditions" actually right now. haha. I was drifting around the mall perimeter drive and got spotted by a cop in a adjacent parking lot. haha. Oh well.

Oh, and I fixed the bogging issue. I had a bad ground wire on the MAF sensor.

But now I have a bad idle lol. Always something, and it's always electrical, afterall, it's a NISSAN. LMAO.
