What is it? The 250 version of the 200 series of Garmin Nuvis. The 250 includes both American, Canadian as well as Puerto Rican maps. The cheaper 200 version only include the lower 48 states of america, while the more expensive 270 has all of North America and All of Europe.
What did it cost me? 220$ at The Source (Canadian version RadioShack)
How Long have I owned it? Since December 26 2007.
Before I went out to buy this GPS I was actually looking for a TomTom One which retails for around $199. After being offered to try both I found the Garmin to be more user friendly and just in general simpler to use than the TomTom One. The map is also more crisp and generally nicer to look at then the crude looking maps on the TomTom One. For an extra $20 the Garmin was well worth the price over the TomTom. The Garmin, has many great features which would be useful for someone who will be travelling from US, to Canada or vice versa. It has a currency converter, calculator, the ability to change from Imperial to Metric and it also has the ability to store pictures as well as expandable memory by SD card. I put this GPS to the test all of yesterday and has not disappointed me once. The audio turn by turn directions are very loud and easy to hear. I tried many times to screw it up by intentionally taking the wrong route over and over again, but it kept recalculating a new route almost instantly that got me back on track. The bracket for it is a suction cup which will mount on your windshield, an incredibly powerful suction cup that will not become loose as it has a lock feature. If you desire, they also include a mount if you so chose to mount the Garmin on your Dashboard as well. Overall if you are looking for a GPS that is very user friendly and at a low price, then I strongly recommend the Garmin Nuvi 250.
Pros:
-Very user friendly
-Great Price
-Bright 3.5 inch screen
-Picture Viewer
-Metric/Imperial, currency conversions
-Loud audible Directions
-Very small "sleek" thin proportions
-Day and Night modes
-Good 5 hour battery life
Cons:
-Lack of an MP3 player. I've noticed that most GPS's now include MP3 playability.
-Did not come with a USB cable (thought that would be a standard accessory for something like this)
