DVD Playback

So I sold my 40 gig PS3 to a friend and took my older bros 80 gig PS3. My 40 gig PS3 ran everything perfectly and was reluctant to take my brothers since he wasn't really using it, but I needed cash. So after selling it, and started using the 80 gig I noticed a few problems that are largely ignorable. One is that GTA4 takes forever to load. But the bigger problem is that DVDs won't play on my PS3. And no it's not HD-DVDs it's the regular type. It's like the Ps3 doesn't recognize it at all.

Do any of you guys had the same problem, and what did you do to solve it?

I don't want to send it back to Sony right now, cause I don't have my brothers receipt to verify the purchase, and don't have 150 bucks to throw down.

Have you tried different DVDs or is it only one that doesn't work?

How hard is it to talk to your brother and get the receipt from him?

If it needs to be sent in and you absolutely can't get the receipt, can your parents front you the cash and then you pay them back?

I've tried all my DVDs with me so far (about 20 dvds!), and my brother unfortunately can't find the receipt, and my parents can't really front me 150 bucks.

Looks to me like you only have a few options then. Either deal with the fact that it can't play DVD's or sell some things to get the $150 you need to fix it. Surely you must have some cash around from selling the 40 gigger.

I bought that 40 gig used for 200 bucks and sold it for 300. Then I used that money for tuition and books. Looks like I have to take my PS2 out of storage. At least I have a valid excuse to buy Blu-Ray movies now.

Thanks for responding TB.
