Hi all,

I made a simpel comparison between the "Rome track" gameplay video found on the front page and google streetview. As you can see the city is quite accurately re-build.

PD are very good at turning beautiful city locals into fun and tight city tacks now. I do hope we get a longer version of this track though, the lap doesn't seem all that much longer than London.

I don't think there will be a longer version since alle screenshot so far of rome are from this track layout, it is rougly 3.5km, so you'll just have to pass the colosseum a lot ;)

The good news is when prologue was released there was evidence that London had a longer version in the works.. so you might be in luck!

but Please don't ask me to source this :ill:

I just hope it's more fun to drive then the horrific Hong Kong track in GT4.

City tracks are fun to see but in my experience not usually that much fun to race on in a game.

Hong Kong is horrible. Opera Paris is OK; George MXCV Paris (there were that many, right?) is a pain; London is OK if a bit fiddly; Seoul only has one interesting corner; New York is also a bit too fiddly; Monaco is good; Rome was awesome; Citta di Aria is also awesome; I've forgotten some, surely. Seattle! Actually quite good (bring back the short version!!)

So yeah, generally not that great. I still hope for a longer London course, and for a return of the original Rome (Rome night wouldn't be unwelcome, either; though I suspect it's locale was a bit fabricated, at least I still can't find it.) Whilst we're at it: A longer Eiger track = Grindelwald reincarnate? :dopey:

Nice comparison anyway; before the gameplay videos emerged, I started a google-maps picture video but got bored on the start-finish straight :guilty:

PD could, if they wanted, make a bigger circuit by joining together the old and the new version of Rome track. They could also use the roads they took inspiration from when designing GT2 Rome Night.

Have a look at these images:

The Hong Kong track in GT4 wasn't too bad once you got used to it. With road cars up to about 500 hp it's even fun to drive. With more powerful cars or those with heavy downforce, much less.
The problems were:

- Poor track visibility (mainly due to the low resolution/processing power available)
- Start section poorly designed
- Lack of a real straight to relax a bit

what is that gt2 picture? is it an official one? ( the track map)

It's the map of Rome Night from GT2. It's not an official image (I found it with Google Images), but the layout is very close to what was in the game.

Well, bugger me. I tried to find the obelisk in the circuit, but could never line the rest of the circuit up with anything else. That seems a bit long, though. And the road sort of cuts through a lot of buildings :odd: Maybe it really was partially contrived - like Costa di Amalfi is in GT4.

Hong Kong was OK to drive on, but terrible to race on, because of the AI, the poor visibility etc.

Anyway, does anybody else have some sort of inkling that this might all come together with the "track editor" ?

I would have preferred proper race tracks (Spa, Reims, Brooklands, Bathurst etc) be included instead of Rome and other city tracks. For a realistic simulator, bouncing off invincible armco in Rome and Co. is pretty unrealistic.

Now those are some fun looking tracks! Imagine what an endurance race on those would be like, especially on that last one.

Really hoping new Rome doesn't replace the Rome 90s tracks though. :guilty:

The obelisk was a decoy in my opinion. It was there only to show that the track was located somewhere in the historical center of Rome. I've researched on the subject and there weren't any at the end of a long straight like in Rome Night.

The Obelisk in GT2 Rome Night was located about where the Altare della Patria is in GT5 Rome Track. Maybe it was some kind of "placeholder" because at the time the guys at PD couldn't properly model it, or didn't have time to.

That seems a bit long, though.
Yes, it would be rather long! 8.2 mi/13.2 Km.
It would be great for this reason too.

And the road sort of cuts through a lot of buildings :odd:
The green sections with white areas on the map are where the GT2 layout would go through buildings. The purple layout is a more realistic one which would use actual roads.

Maybe it really was partially contrived - like Costa di Amalfi is in GT4.
Yes, probably, but looking at the map the layout wasn't too far from reality, though. But next time they'll include it I hope they will design it with real roads and scenery instead.

Yes, I definitely enjoyed more driving on it than racing on it.
However in general I personally liked Hong Kong more than the Opera Paris track.
