"One of these days, we'll turn around and find that the last of the one-off special editions of the Pagani Zonda has come and gone. And that'll be okay, because by then we should have its oft-spied and highly-anticipated successor (tentatively dubbed C9) to ogle instead. But that day is not today, as yet another specially-commissioned Zonda has hit the interwebs.

Called the 750, this edition is based on the five-of-a-kind Zonda Cinque, but sets itself apart with an unmistakable magenta paint job and a redesigned rear window to accommodate that giant overhead fauxhawk air inlet. Specific details have not been announced, but given the one-off's name, it could be packing a 750-horsepower version of the Mercedes-Benz AMG-built 7.3-liter V12 engine. Or the 750 could stand for something else entirely.

The supercar is currently undergoing construction, commissioned by an unspecified Middle Eastern buyer. Color us surprised... which happens to be a similar shade of purple"
 
I wonder if the owners of the other "one off" Zonda's get a bit miffed that the latest ultimate incarnation is more ultimate than theirs? Actually it sounds like it's very common for the cars to return to the factory to be fitted with the latest parts when they're getting serviced so they probably get uprated!
 
Horacio should've have stopped, I think the special editions have now passed into the vulgar and horrible looking category now. Especially as, thanks to the looks and engine, the C9 will not be a patch on the Zonda, I hope they would've sent it out on a high.

Apart from the colour this looks exactly like the Cinque, so the owners of that mussed have been a bit mugged. Especially since there were only supposed to be five Cinques, but instead they made five roadster and five coupes.

The Zonda is such an awesome car, yet they seem to be marketed like a mid 80's Peugeot 205... Zonda 'Roland Garros' anyone?

More stick on aero parts, increasingly garrish colours... uggg! The prettiest ones are the earlier models.
 
...And Pagani makes it to number 5 in the (homeforsummer) list of makers creating pointless special editions of a car that doesn't need fannying about with to sell...

2. Lotus Elise
3. BMW MINI
4. Rover Mini
5. Pagani Zonda

Still, it's a Zonda so it's still awesome. Just awesome and ever so slightly more pointless.
 
I was going to say, there has to be like 85 different MX-5s.

Funny part about cars like the Lotus making special editions: because of overall low volume in general, the regular cars in certain cases are more unique anyway. Those baby blue Exige Club Racers selling point was their unique colour, but because Lotus only exported a couple hundred Exiges some years, Stateside there are actually only maybe 3 or 4 Autumn Gold Exiges running around in total, beating out the unique "collectors' edition" of certain types.

And as for the Loti, I don't mind their being loads of special editions really but they do often seem pointless given how similar they usually are to the standard ones. That said, my favourite Elise is the Type 49, which is... a special edition. With a fancy paint job, and that's it.

With a Pagani, I question how much there is to be gained from making a purple one, when such a specialised car can probably be ordered in 101 different shades of purple anyway.

Fair enough if it does have 750bhp, but something tells me you'd have to be a special kind of absolutelyflippinginsane to need more power than the absolutelyflippinginsane Cinq...
 
I don't think the colour is anything other than what has been chosen by the buyer but I do think it's a bit ridiculous giving it a model name when each Zonda is unique. Harry Metcalfe's articles in EVO mag about Pagani have said they refer to their cars by chassis number as they are all so unique even if they are designated the same model.

I'm sure having the extra horsepower is mostly willy waving but I wouldn't turn it down...the horsepower that is
 
I'm the first to say I don't like the scheme. It reminds me of Krystal's flight suit in Star Fox: Command...it would even more so if the carbon bits were pink instead...
 
I once (co-)owned an MX-5 that wasn't a special edition. True story.
 
Overstepped the mark now. Too many editions to make money from. Bring the c9 and let the Zonda rest in peace for the love of god.
 
A purple Pontiac Grand Prix, purple Toyota Tacoma and natural progression leads me to a purple Zonda.
