Top Gear challenge!

I did some laps and got 19.475 with the Volkswagen New Beetle Cup Car '00 (I just got an oil change, the car cost 24,4??.)

I don't know the course that well so it was a chance to practice it. Very hard to know what the best line is at times. Even when you think you do, it's tough to join it all up for a competitive lap time!

My first completed lap was 1:24.xxx I had started with TC at 2 and had to bump it up a couple times to stop losing so much time to tire spin in the first 2 corners and the last corner. Even that time probably has another 0.500 sec to squeeze out of it. The track has so many spots where such a small difference can cause a 0.5 sec gain/loss. I was 0.5 sec ahead of my ghost before the hammerhead, but we were even leaving it. I gained my time with a smooth run thru the last 2 turns.

Turn the TC off, it normally helps to not have a computer interfere with how much power is going to the wheels.
And sorry for not updating the leaderboard, school work and other things have caught up with me so I haven't had much time to do that yet. I'll do it some time this week though.

I used my TC at 1 though...Back to the drawing board

Try it with a little more TC. I started at 2 given the HP and tire combo. I ended up at 5. I normally run with TC off, but I usually have a diff tuned for the car as well. Without the diff, I would almost always spin the tires exiting corners (DS3 = poor throttle control) and lose time to counter-steer to keep her straight. There are really only 3 settings to play with, ABS, TC, and brake balance. I usually throw some rear bias on the brakes, but I didn't have to with the RX-7. I think I actually bumped the ABS up to 2 as well to help with turn 1 and the hammerhead.

Normally, I would agree with you, but if you are driving with a DS3 and do not have precise control of your throttle, the TC can help immensely with that. I'm sure it will cost you some time, just as an auto tranny will, but if you cannot execute flawlessly without it, it can be useful.

Also, thank you for taking the time to manage this event. I would hope no one is stressing too much about a delay in results posting. It's been a lot of fun. I had almost stopped racing with the PSN outage. I was just A-spec grinding and tuning some of my LMP cars. I wish the A-spec gameplay progression had been nearly as fun as this challenge. There was as much fun in managing the budget and strategizing on cars as there was in racing them. I never imagined I would be so excited to find a car in my UCD with 90,000 km on the clock. I forgot how real the driving experience feels in a low HP car with comfort softs and a big squishy suspension.

This was a good way to enjoy GT5 offline.

I have a feeling this won't be the last budget challenge held at GTPlanet.
So , keep collecting those high mileage cars and remember to write down their specs.

Finally got round to updating the leaderboard, sorry for taking so long, as said before school work caught up with me and I've had very little time to devote anytime to this. I would like say something as well. This small little challenge, originally no more than something to keep you occupied while PSN was down, has had nearly 50 participants! While that may not sound a lot, if you looked at the first post and the leaderboard, you can see what it's become. So to all of you who participated, thank you for turning this small collection of laptimes into a competition and also for not giving up in the few days I was gone. (I just realised that that little paragraph sounded like some official apology speech Sony would deliver to us about the PSN outage)

Hi all.

The PSNs down, bad isn't it? So heres a little challenge to put a little fun into it.

Rules
You must get a car, new or used for under 25,000cr and with remaining cr tune it as far as you can.
Then go to practice mode and select Top Gear Track and set a time in your car
Post here the time you got and car you used, a leaderboard will be created here so you can compare other people's times. If there are any suspicious times they will not be posted on leaderboard. You may only post 3 lap times. Good luck!

New rule and prize info,
You must buy the car, it can't be a car already in your garage as it might be tuned to a point where its value is more than 25,000cr.
If you manage to get 1st place between now and when PSN goes back online, you will get my Nissan Silvia Ks S13 (Premium Car) as a reward.

If this gets really popular I might keep this going.

I think a separate thread could be started to host these lap times.
People would put up their car cost ect like in this thread.
There could be separate list for no SRF and SRF runs. And by drivetrain aswell.
And for stock cars that can be bought 25,000 Cr (no mods done not even oil change.)
With and without SRF..

I feel the SFR = 20,000 Cr worth of tuning , maybe even more.
It was like this in the first few seasonal events with tyre limits and PP limit.
A focus on N3's at Madrid could beat the AI with just SRF switched on.
And with minimal modifications required to win the cost went up to 30,000 Cr. (not including car cost here)

By the way , now that PSN is back and well ,
I spent some time (20 minutes) in the Lancer testing it on TGTT with SRF on.

And I did a 1'15.499

Looking at my splits , atleast , a 1'15.1xx is possible using SRF.

Man, you are right! I did my last laptimes the same day PSN came back online. No problem from my side.

About SRF: It makes GT5 more like GT4 by adding much grip to tires. Simple as that. I don't like it...
