I'm using your tunes since a bit and I had no problem with most, sometimes I had to put more aero on the back but overall it worked great. However in Monza I couldnt get the result expected. I would advice people to use far lower aerodynamics setup, like 1 front 2 back or something like that, worked great for me.

I'll look over them once I'm back at the tracks anway since I'm now driving a McLaren, which is more like the cars the majority of people are using. Thanks for the feedback! :)

Nürburgring & Spa wet setups are coming up soon - stay tuned, either today or tomorrow. :P

Great thread, awesome info, but I have a couple of questions: How suitable are these tunes for the cars that are a bit lower down the grid? As in the Force India etc, what should I change to work the cars better, just a bit more wing? Also, I know you don't use the quick tune, but do you know if you set it to "adaptable" if it makes a tune suitable for that track or is it the same for each track you go to? Because obviously a middle downforce tune is not going to be the same for Monaco as it is for Monza.

The cars in F1 2011 are actually very different. Setups created for the HRT won't work extremely well for the Red Bull, for example. The high end cars don't need as much downforce etc. as the low end cars would need it, simply because the better cars are "better" and, in fact, easier to drive.

In general you should check four things if you want to use setups created for, let's say, the McLaren MP4-26 for Force India or the likes instead:

- downforce (ride height & wing angles)
- stability (camber & toe)
- steering / traction balance (anti-roll bars)
- gear ratio (tune it down a bit in case you're using lower bracket cars with setups created for high end cars)

The quick tunes, on the other side, are completely useless in 2011. Now, why's that? In F1 2010 the quick tunes were actually pretty good and they were able to adapt the car to a track extremely well, seeing that they were just general pre-made setups. However, in F1 2011 they're not changing anything besides the wing angles and those are the very same for each track. Now, that's pretty much useless since having wing angles of 6/6 with completely incompatible ride height and spring stiffness, for example, won't do your car any good.

Hi, finally had a chance to test your tunes, and they are awesome. The only problem is, now I am too fast. Im playing on legend difficulty with all aids off (except ABS) and in every session I'm 1 - 1.5 seconds faster than everyone, and Im in a Force India. Its nice to be winning everything, but it seems to easy. Any tips for making the game more of a challenge?

Also, how up to date are your times that you set in the tunes? In Catalunya I managed a 1:18.5 on primes in the first practice session, then in Quali did a 1:17.292 on options.

Glad you like them - the times are on option tyres, of course, and mostly the most current lap record of mine but I'm not trying hard. I'm doing 1-3 laps per qualifying, so that I'm on pole or near pole and that's it. :D So it's pretty much possible that you're faster, especially at Catalunya (HATE HATE HATE). :)

Race with the bottom 3 teams.

Custom tunes will always give you an "unfair" advantage, so yeah, bottom 3 teams are a good way to make it more challenging. It's hardly possible to improve the handling without making your car faster, which would be a great sometimes. You can always mess the gear ratio up, tho. :D

Race with the bottom 3 teams.

Good suggestion, but I don't think coming tenth in a car that should be coming twentieth is any more realistic that a car in tenth coming first.

Ran the race and at the end on the primes I got to a 1.17.9xx. Still won even though I ran out of fuel after the flat right that leads to the back straight.

I guess I just want what no one else does, everyone likes to win, but I like to be challenged.

So do I but even with Legend AI and no assists...winning by 30 seconds isn't too difficult. Hope they patch it up a bit, they're still a bit slow around slow corners and especially the first corner of the race. :/

Terrific setups MrS... I am in top 7 in each of the qualifications as well as in races... and that too with team "VIRGIN"... lol only race where i could not come in top 7 is in Montreal Canada.. but you have provided awesome setups man.. i have reached upto European gp and i am sure that your rest of setups would also be great for me. btw how did you find these all setups MrS ?

So, uh...how do I do them. That's a long story.

There are 3 things I need to take into account for each track.

1) What characteristics does the track have? Slow corners? Fast corners? Do I have to reach top speed on the straights? Can I make it even if I lower the top speed and increase the cornering speed instead? When should I shift?
2) How low can I go? You need to find the absolute minimum downforce and apply it in order to be consistently fast - just so much downforce that you can get around the track but quick enough to beat the "Legend" AI or human opponents online.
3) Would the setup actually cost me time by having to stop more often? Extremely fast setups can finish your tyres off really fast if you're not careful enough.

I'm often sitting in our living room with a notepad and take notes about the speed and gear for each corner as well as the top speed that I'm going to need for both the main and back straight. I'm also watching onboard laps in order to check the rhythm of real F1 drivers. To be clear on that: they're not indicating the top speed but merely the rhythm of the track. Top speed is most often way higher in the game.

There's always a base setup since you know that something might be more important on a particular track. No need to boost your top speed instead of downforce in Monaco, for example. Everything's based on logical assumptions and the rest is often trial and error. I'm currently near ~500 crashes in GP mode. Yet, I've only completed 2 Grand Prixs and all the crashes resulted from trying out setups in practice sessions.

Many tracks have similar characteristics - the Suzuka setup hasn't been created from scratch but I used my Nürburgring setup and went ahead from there. Same for the Silverstone one. However, that's not possible for every track, which is also the reason why I'm still working on the wet setup for Marina Bay / Singapore. It's actually pretty fun to create setups - especially once you know how to make things work the way you want it.

There are different ways to achieve your goals and with the huge amount of setups floating on the internet it's only natural that some setups are better or more consistent or some might even be almost the same (both setting and result wise) as another one - yet, everyone created setups according to their own style & need, so I guess every setup created is still a unique piece of work.

Indeed - top speed isn't indicated by them, merely braking / accelerating and how they're taking the corners. :)

25/10/2011: the 2 missing setups are in the works and almost done, I'll post them on Friday at the latest. Sorry for the delay, had a lot of work and finish working on my old appartment, so that I could hand the keys back to the agency. :)

With your spa setup I could only manage a 1:44.192 in the race (probably because DRS no allowed all the way through the track) but in qualifying it was 1:43.7XX

I think its the different layouts of the cars which make the difference because you did it in the McLaren which obviously has a better speed whereas the Lotus-Renault struggles to get to that top speed which I found by lowering 7th gear makes la rouge a bit easier to keep up with others :) Thanks anyway

Just an update: I've been quite sick for a while but went to work anyway, so I didn't feel like playing much when I got home.

Anyway, good news everyone! Abu Dhabi (wet) setup has been completed today (-5.532 seconds to P2 on Legendary. :P) and New Delhi will be done by tomorrow. Sorry for the delay. :)
