I have tried and tried and tried with the 908. I'm sure it can do it, but I've got a 7th, 6th, 2nd (by 0.6 seconds!), 4th, 5th and 6th.

If you've done it with the Peugeot 908 HDI FAP, please could you share your car setup and your tactics. Thanks!

The car has massive torque at 3300 rpm. Need to find the low end gear ratios that will keep it there in the turns. Also, you can dial down the aero so you can keep as much hp as possible. But, it does give up a pretty good hp/weight to the other cars.

I just did it with the 908 Team Oreca Matmut.

Downforce was set at 59 front, 85 rear.
It shows 700 hp and 700 PP
0 Ballast and Engine at 100%
No Turbo
Tranny shows top speed of 254 in window by gear ratio graph and 249 in window where adjustments are made. I only adjusted the top speed.

I pushed hard, but tried to back the meter down to 7/8 at the first speed bump in the long straight. Then I backed him down close to 50% for the right hander at the end of the long straight. I also tried to negotiate the last set of curves before the pits at about 3/4.

I started on Racing Hards and pitted at the end of lap 2 for Intermediates and 10 liters fuel. I was in 6th (I think) when I pitted. I think 2 other cars pitted at that time. So exited in 10th.
I hit the up on the mood button while in the pits so we exited at about 3/4 excitement. Tried to hold it there till start of the straight. Going to full red then backing off just before the chicane. Back to full red from there to 2nd chicane. To cool him down for the right hander at the end I look for a quick flash of a reflection from the big sign on the right at the end of the straight. I then hit cool down. If timed right the meter expires just as I make the right and I can get right back on the up for full red all the way to the end of the 2nd straight. Definitly don't want to be late on this as it is a big penalty for going wide. So better to be a little too cool than too hot. As soon as I exit from the 2nd 90 at the end of the straight I look to start cooling him down for the long series of s curves. Keeping him around 3/4 till exiting the last chicane before the start finish.
My second pit stop came at the end of lap 8 and I stayed with Intermediates. This feels like the best place to pit (with intermdeiates anyway) as the tires do wear quickly on the dryer pavement of the last lap.
I did have to watch and negate his attempt to pit at the end of lap nine for racing hards.

I think Bob was level 36, but he has negotiated this challenge a few times.
Edit: both Bobs were at 36, did use 2. Have used same 2 in all attempts.

Same car same technique but with 2 level 23 Bobs yields a 3rd place finish about 50 seconds slower.

I won it with 908, but you will need a careful babysitting, rocking Bob's and good luck to win it.

I had max aero and max power and then I added some ballast to meet PP limit. I did my stops on lap 3 for Inters and on lap 7 for Inters again. You have to keep your Bob hot and drop the level for corners where they usually crash (they've been discussed on other threads several times).

I had one Bob with level 40 and one with level 38. I always started with level 40 Bob but for some reason if I changed Bobs in every stop, the 40 level guy was terrible on second stint. So I drove two stints with him and then changed to a fresh guy on the lap 7 pit stop.

That is the basic idea, rest of it is a lot up to luck. You need to make your way up before lap 7 so that you are close to top runners. When you go to pits, it's up to the group, if they keep themselves hot or not. If they drop down to cool, then when you come out from the pits and start pushing your Bob he will gain enough time to overtake the leader when he pits on lap 9. You also need to have big enough gap when he comes out of the pit, so that his level will drop to cool. If he gets into hot zone and on your Bob's draft its game over.

I had several attempts on this, first when I got close was 2nd place with 2,3s to leader. Once I was making big enough gap after second pit stop but then my Bob crashed. Then I got really lucky, when the R8 went off on first lap. So the battle was against Bentley and it was easy to beat compared to R8. So it can be done, but I feel it's mainly up to luck, how hot top AI's keep themselves. If R8 gets a good partner to push him faster it seems impossible to win with the 908.

Won three times with the 908 now:

I didn't have the courage to go for the tyre saving option so I went for a two stopper first one was on lap two by which point I was up to 5th after overtaking six cars plus the Audi that overshot Mulsanne corner. By the time the AI came to pit in on lap 3 despite a bit of traffic I moved up to second just behind the Bentley and ahead of the Audi that had spun a few laps earlier.

After that it was easy, Bob quickly despatched the Bentley then went on to do an epic sequence of laps meaning by the end of lap 6 I was a full pit stop ahead!

I thought lap 6 would be good time to pit in as this would mean an equal spread of laps on the last two stints and from there I kept ahead comfortably to the end with only a small excursion to the gravel on lap 8.

1st: Peugeot 908
2nd: Audi R8 '01 +22.9
3rd: Bentley EXP8 +35.9
4th: BMW LMR +46.1

Second time was similar but I just moved the second stop to lap 7. Comfortable in the end as well.

Third time I tried something different. I did a one stopper starting on sports softs, pitted on lap 4 and fitted the intermediates to finish off. Pushed in the red all the way apart from lap 1 at the first chicane, lap 5 for the first few corners on new tyres, the Mulsanne corner every lap and on the last two laps I forced my Bob down to the coolest level so that the tyres won't be finished by the end of the race.

Finished 7 seconds ahead with a time of 40 minutes and 22 seconds.

My two Bob's were level 33/34 and 38.

I just won the race using the 908 Team Peugeot Total. I left it stock with the pp at 697. Personally i found that the key to winning the race was just maintaining the drivers stamina. I barely won though, the Audi r8 caught up quick!

Has anyone tried a not LM car, like the Corvette ZR1 RM or CLK Race Car?

Just tried the ZR1 RM. Good top speed for the straights, but the brakes are horrible, allowing everyone to pass

Escudo Dirt Trial is a no go. Not enough top speed, and doesn't turn at all.

GT by Citroen isn't fast enough either.

And forget about the Veyron. 1200hp and good acceleration/top speed mean nothing, if it can't turn or brake.

The Mazda Furai corners really well and has a higher top speed than the 2J, but I ended up 5th, using a lap 4 pit strategy. It might be worth trying on Sports Soft and no pits.

The Zonda Race Car isn't so hot... can't manage to get out of 11th.

Other rejects: Nascar, Ferrari 330, Chapparel 2D

Won with the 908 team total. Did only 1 pitstop, then finished the race with maybe 5% left on the rear inters. Can confirm the r8 is pretty quick in catching up on the last lap.
