There has been some debate on this for quite some time but I don't believe anyone that was in the debate has ever asked for this to actually happen...

Can we get the thread title for the "Imports" thread changed please? I'll have some of the debaters post their suggestions below.

To what kind of thing?

Remember that we have a Muscle car thread and a sexy and mean thread. If the import thread is made too similar to either of those then a merge may be in order.

Actually I agree. A merge with this thread would do wonders I believe. 👍

Merge the Sexy & mean thread with the Imports thread? Why? Just because a vehicle is an import does not mean it's sexy and/or mean and vice versa.

I support keeping the Import Thread the Import Thread. The word "import" to me bring thoughts of European and Japanese sports cars, and car tuning and technology, and style, and motorsports. Everything that the import scene is centered around here in the States or anywhere else. I want to see rad slammed cars, gnarly race cars, and all the hard work and engineering that goes into making cars look awesome and perform well. I want close ups of tight wheel fitment just as much as close ups of a BMW DTM's individual throttle bodies, which is something a guy might consider installing on his own E30 because it's a realistic prospect.

The Sexy and Mean thread, as far as I can tell, is mostly a selection of stock supercars that are completely unrelated to anything 90% of us do when it comes to cars. The term "sexy and mean" does not encompass the philosophy behind the import scene, and that's why I'm not interested in that thread and rarely visit it. I enjoy automotive style, car tuning and racing, and engineering.

Import is a relative term depending on where one lives. So for a website with members from all over the world, a thread titled "Imports" could get a little confusing.

It's mainly about the fact that people are posting things other than imports. A lot of motorsports photos recently as well. We've talked about a title change in the past but nobody has stepped forward. Now that I bring it to light it doesn't seem like anyone that discussed it cares enough.

Sorry, no sexy nor mean car has ever picked on me nor taken off its bra. I don't get it.

These threads have been around for years, and only now we have problems with it? Where's that shaking head smiley?

Wander on in the thread and see the airplanes and pictures of bridges that are being posted, then you tell me.

I guess this is when people that wanted a thread title change come in here and disagree. :dunce:
That's what happens when an idea is proposed which is not unanimously agreed upon.

Those should have gone in the Cool Photo Thread, I'll give you that, but the motorsports pictures are perfectly justified. Motorsports go hand-in-hand with the import scene and car tuning; in fact, that's why we mess with our cars.

I don't see a problem with a cool-racing-car/motorsports thread; but I'd imagine that one would have to divide it up into subdivisions by racing series, or the F1-versus-NASCAR brigades will charge too often.

I do think the import thread should be separated into the European and Japanese cars threads because the term import is relative to where your located.

Won't someone please think of the Holdens? Red and Blue...Where would they go?

But I get the idea, especially because that was the "rule" we had from the beginning, at least by the respective thread creators.

I think australian cars belong with there American muscle car counter parts. But I'm not going to judge on where to group Aussie cars.

Or everybody could simply post cars that characterize the "import" scene in their respective countries. That seems pretty simple.

The whole idea behind this was that I (and I'm sure others) don't want to visit 3 different threads on a single forum to see cool cars. They should all go in one thread, but too many people complain because race cars are not "imports" and that thread should only consist of lowered JDM cars or something. I'm fine with the thread title as long as we can agree that anything pertaining to modified cars/race cars can go in that thread without people complaining about it, but it seems without a title change, someone every couple of pages is going to mention that x race car isn't an "import".

What we DEFINITELY don't need is yet ANOTHER thread for "motorsports". Although I agree that the airplane pictures or whatever shouldn't have been there.

I didn't see any aircraft pics, but we have even had "guess that aircraft games" in the Rumble Strip. So yeah, we could have a...

Didn't realize racing cars were in the sexy and mean car thread, never looked at it for more than a few seconds.

Race cars pop up in there occasionally, amongst all the stock Ferraris and Astons, and they're usually stationary. Speed Junkie in particular has been a proponent of posting rare photos of classic import/race cars in-action, which is rad. Racing and performance are core to the "import" tuner scene.

Is it really an issue? I believe the majority of the users is still US based, and after seeing a couple of pages one could and should realise that the thread is for Non US cars. They go into the hotrod thread.

Simple.
