I have decided that its time to take on the Valley with a variety of cars and see how they do against the AI.

Its my feeling that this endurance race has been made more entertaining since the V2.02 tire model update.

This race has changed again with the new V2.08 tire model, new V2.08 posts begin at post # 165. Everyone's tires now last longer (both the tires on our cars and the tires on the AI cars).

I welcome race reports (of any length) from one and all. Provide enough race details in your post and I will put your name on the Leaderboards!

Rules:
1. Tyres must be Sport Soft or worse (since the AI are on SS)
2. High level race cars are discouraged
3. Power limiter should be at least 85%
4. Concept cars must run against the "rabbits" to be ranked
5. Stock means no upgraded parts, no ballast, PL at 100%, oil changes allowed, car wash allowed, any tires from CH to SS
6. Please try to keep the racing as clean as possible, as any dirty tactics (driving the AI off the road, ramming, deliberate pitting, excessive blocking, etc) are also discouraged.

For those interested in "spec" racing, we have two new leaderboards, where you get to race your vehicle of choice against the Honda NSX Type R '02 (the strongest AI rabbit in the GV300km field).

"Super Stock" class restrictions are SH tires, and your car must be completely "stock" with no upgrades, ballast or PL adjustments. Oil changes are allowed. Minimum vehicle weight is 1100kg's (this might get increased to 1150kg's). You must race against a GV300km lineup which includes the Honda NSX Type R '02.

"Super Modifieds" class restrictions are SH tires. Any and all upgrades and modifications are allowed. Minimum vehicle weight is 1100kg's (this might get increased to 1150kg's). Minimum Power limiter is 85%. You must race against a GV300km lineup which includes the Honda NSX Type R '02.

I have decided to take on the Valley with another Mazda, so I check my garage and have my pit crew tune on a very nice Mazda RX-7 Type R Bathurst R FD '01 (Sunburst Yellow)

After some tuning the Mazda has the following specs:

Horsepower: 225
Weight: 1350 (90kg of ballast was added)
PPvalue: 425
Tires: SH (used throughout the race)
Power limiter: 82.1%
Skid is turned off

Since I haven't done much grid hunting yet, I decide to run against lineup # 1 as follows:

The flag drops and we're off!!!

I coast for a bit coming off the starting line to allow the field to come past me so I can check them out (I'm feeling pretty confident!). So I follow the 11th place Mits GTO Twin Turbo into the first hairpin from the rear of the field. Once I get my sea legs, I drive around the 11th place Mits GTO Twin Turbo as we take the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. I then pass the 10th place Toyota Celica GT-FOUR as we cross the bridge for the first time in the race. At the end of lap # 1, I'm 11.2 seconds behind the race leader (unknown at this point, but usually its still the pole sitting Fairlady Z 300ZX VerS.

On lap # 2, the 9th place Subaru Impreza WRX STI gets a little out of shape just before the tight left-hander before the first tunnel, and this gives me enough room to dive to the apex of the turn and pass the WRX without any paint exchange. I then pass the 8th place Toyota Supra RZ going thru the final esses. At the end of lap # 2, I'm 11.4 seconds behind the race leader.

As I begin lap # 3, the 9th place Subaru WRX STI shows off his superior straight-line speed and he drafts past my left side going down the S/F straight. The 10th place Toyota Supra RZ drafts past me on the right side as well, and smacks into me while we're both under heavy braking going into the first hairpin so I get dumped into the sand and get passed by the rest of the field!!!

Once I get out of the sand and back on the tarmac, I can't see anyone..... they've all left me completely in their dust without even the slightest bit of remorse. At the next checkpoint I see that I've fallen 23 seconds behind the leader of the race, so my beach work cost me about 12 seconds!! At the end of lap # 3, I see that I'm a full 22 seconds behind the leader of the race after a dismal 2.30.255 lap.

At the end of lap # 4, I'm 21 seconds behind the race leader and I'm getting a decent draft off the 11th place Toyota Celica GT-FOUR as we zoom down the S/F straight.

On lap # 5, I pass the Toyota Celica GT-FOUR going thru the big sweepers before the second hairpin. I'm no longer in last place!! Yeah!! I then drive around the outside of the 10th place Mits GTO Twin Turbo going thru the tight left-hander just before the 1st tunnel.

On lap # 6, I drive around the outside of the 9th place Toyota Supra RZ as we go thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel.

On lap # 7, I go around the outside of the 8th place Subaru Impreza WRX as we go thru the second hairpin. Two turns later, I pass the 7th place Nissan Skyline Coupe 350GT and find myself back where I started the race.... in 7th place!! Next, I immediately pass the 6th place Nissan 300ZX 2seater as we head into the second tunnel. The 5th place Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon is fairly slow going thru the final esses on lap # 7, so I slide past him and take over the position.

On lap # 8, I pass the 4th place Infiniti G35 Coupe going thru the second hairpin. I'm now in 4th place with a clear track ahead because the first 3 cars are all bunched together waaay up the road. The current leader is the Nissan Silvia Spec R. The Mazda RX-7 Type RS is in 2nd, and the Fairlady Z 300ZX VerS is in 3rd place. The split time when I cross the bridge on lap # 8 is 30 seconds! All my battles with the back-markers have allowed the leaders to rabbit away! I'm going to have to buckle down and push my RX-7 Bathurst.

At the end of lap # 10, I'm still 30 seconds behind the leader of the race who is now the Mazda RX-7 Type RS, even though I just ran my best lap of the race, a 2.16.413 lap!

At the end of lap # 15, after 4 good laps, I catch a draft from the 3rd place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX VerS and finish the lap 33 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7.

On lap # 16, I pass the 3rd place Fairlady Z 300ZX by using the cement going thru the sweeping left-hander that's after the 2nd hairpin.

When I begin lap # 19, I've reduced the 1st place Mazda's lead to 30 seconds and I can just barely see the 2nd place Nissan Silvia Spec R ahead of me on the track.

On lap # 20, I catch and pass the 2nd place Nissan Silvia Spec R going thru the tight left-hander just before the 1st tunnel. Now that I'm in 2nd place, I check my tires and see that they still have over half their life left. However, they have started to feel slightly worn out, so I decide to make the race a two stopper and will pit this lap and then again on lap # 40. At the end of lap # 20, I dive into the pits for another set of SH tires and 10 liters of fuel. The last checkpoint before the pit-stop said that I was still a full 28 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 Type RS.

After a very quick pit stop, I pull back out on th etrack in 4th place since I was passed by both the Nissan Silvia and the Fairlady Z 300ZX. The 5th place Subaru WRX STI wasn't able to catch up with me, though I can see him in my rear-view mirrors as I brake for the first hairpin on lap # 21. At the first checkpoint on lap # 21, I now see that I'm 57 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 Type RS. On lap # 21, I re-pass the 3rd place Fairlady Z 300ZX as we cross the bridge.

At the 2nd checkpoint on lap # 23, I see that I'm 52 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7, so either he's starting to struggle a bit on worn tires, or he has been slowed while passing some of the back-markers that we're starting to catch. My fresh tires feel great, so I run a 2.17.098 on lap # 23.

On lap # 25, I catch and re-pass the 2nd place Nissan Silvia Spec R going thru the tight left-hander just before the 2nd tunnel. At the bridge checkpoint, the race HUD says that I'm now only 44 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7.

At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 27, I see that I'm only 32 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7, so I know he's struggling on worn tires and should pit at the end of this lap. My last lap was a 2.17.206, so I know its not my lap times that are causing the gap to the leading Mazda RX-7 to shrink!

As I cross the S/F line to begin lap # 28, I jump into the lead of the race because the Mazda RX-7 Type RS has just started to leave his pit stall!! At the first checkpoint on lap # 28, I see that I have a 6 second lead over the Mazda RX-7 who has exited the pits and is chasing hard after me. The Subaru Impreza WRX STI is now in 3rd place, which means that the Nissan Silvia Spec R pitted as well and let the Subaru WRX gain the position.

On lap # 29, I catch and pass the 11th place Toyota Celica GT-FOUR as we cross the bridge, so he gets put a lap down. Just ahead is the 10th place Infiniti G35 Coupe, so he gets passed as we go thru the 3rd tunnel just after the bridge.

After a race time of 1 hour, 10 minutes and 2 seconds, I reach the half-way mark in the race and cross the S/F line to end lap # 30 with a 9 second lead over the Mazda RX-7 Type RS after a 2.17.170 lap.

As I begin lap # 31, I pass a car that is in the pits. If I remember, I will check the replay after the race to see who it is.

As I begin lap # 32, I pass another car that's sitting in the pits. I sure wish that the game would tell us who is pitting! My lead over the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 is 5 seconds, so the Mazda is gaining on me!! At the end of lap # 32, the 2nd place Mazda is only 3.7 seconds behind me. Should I be worried?? I just ran a 2.17.361 lap and he gainted on me!!

At the end of lap # 33, the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 is only 1.7 seconds behind me. Yikes!! My only hope is that I can see two back-markers ahead of me on the track, and hopefully they will slow down the streaking Mazda when he trys to pass them.

As I begin lap # 35, the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 drafts past me and beats me into the first hairpin, so I'm back in 2nd place for now.

I begin lap # 36, 1.9 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 Type RS, so he's clearly faster than me on a clear lap. The back-markers are now only about 3 seconds ahead of us, so hopefully they will slow down the Mazda. On lap # 36, the leading Mazda RX-7 goes past the first of the back-markers as they go across the bridge. This first back-markers is the 8th place Toyota Supra RZ. I pass the Toyota Supra as well just as I accelerate onto the S/F straight at the end of the lap.

On lap # 37, the leading Mazda RX-7 drives past the next back-marker (who is the 7th place Nissan 300ZX 2seater) as they go into the first hairpin.

I'm fully in the 7th place Nissan 300ZX's draft as we begin lap # 38 even though I see that I've fallen 5 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. I drive past the 7th place Nissan 300ZX as we go thru the big fast sweepers between the two hairpins, so he goes a lap down.

When I cross the S/F line to begin lap # 40, I see that I've fallen a full 8 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. My tires are starting to feel their age which is reflected in my lap times, which have climbed up into the 2 minute and 18 second range. I pit at the end of lap # 40 for a new set of SH tires and ask for 15 liters of fuel. While I'm in the pits I get passed by both the Toyota Supra and the Nissan 300ZX 2seater, so they both un-lap themselves.

AAHH! New Tires! They feel great!

At the second checkpoint on lap # 41, I see that I'm 39 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7, so I lost about 30 seconds during my pit-stop.

On lap # 44, I catch and pass the 8th place Nissan 300ZX 2seater as we go thru the second hairpin. At the end of lap # 44, I'm still 33 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. I just ran a 2.16.609 lap (which was my second best lap of the race, so far I think), so I've got a decent chance to catch the Mazda by the end of the race.

On lap # 45, I catch and pass the 7th place Toyota Supra RZ going down the short chute between the two tunnels.

I set a new lap record on lap # 46 of 2.16.328 and begin lap # 47 a full 28 seconds behind the Mazda RX-7. I think that the Mazda RX-7 has been slowed somewhat by another back-marker.

As I begin lap # 48, I pass one of the back-markers who is in the pits. I think that it might be the Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX VerS, but I'm not sure.

On lap # 49, I catch and pass the Toyota Celica GT-FOUR as we accelerate away from the second hairpin. I also pass the Infiniti G35 Coupe as we drive thru the first tunnel.

I pass another back-marker who is in the pits when I begin lap # 50. At the end of lap # 50, I cross the S/F line 21.6 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 after a fast 2.16.675 lap.

I begin lap # 54, only 12.5 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 after a 2.16.587 lap. The leading Mazda should be pitting soon since he pitted on lap # 27, so I suspect that his tires are worn and his lap times are starting to suffer. When I cross the S/F line at the end of lap # 54, I get the news that I'm 7.5 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 who did not pit. Surely a mistake on his part!

As I begin my drive down the S/F straight on lap # 55, I'm close enough to see the leading Mazda RX-7 enter the pits. Finally! I'm probably about 3.5 seconds behind him, so he was really losing a lot of time on his worn tires during the last few laps.

I continue on and begin lap # 56, and take over the lead of the race! At the second checkpoint on lap # 56, I see that I now have a 26 second lead over the 2nd place Mazda RX-7.

On lap # 57, I catch and pass the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo as we go thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel, so he goes two laps down, I think. Just ahead is the Subaru Legacy Wagon. I pass the Subaru Wagon going thru the final esses and put him another lap down as well.

When I begin lap # 59, I can feel that my tires are starting to feel their age since I've started to slow. My lead over the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 is down to 19.2 seconds.

I have a 18.2 second lead over the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 when I begin lap # 60. Lap # 60 is un-eventfull since no other cars appear, so I finish the race and take a nice win!

Total race time was 2 hours, 19 minutes, 34.228 seconds

I did this one in a 2010 Camaro, stock, then limited to 304hp with 100kg of ballast on SH tires. It was very difficult, I couldn't even keep up with the RX-7 until after I stopped and didn't take fuel. Lots of fun - easily one of the best experiences I've had in GT5, period.

Unfortunately this was a long time ago, well before the tires were changed. Back then the RX-7 made it on one stop but I needed 2. I've been looking for an excuse to re-run this one and now I have it. :)
 
I once ran this with the Impreza Sedan WRX STi '10 against the Impreza '04 (rabbit car).
I bought the car and went straight to the race.
I needed 3 pits against two of the other Impreza.
Coming to the last lap, tires shot, leading the race, with the Impreza '04 right at my exhaust with rather new tires (25-50% worn tires for him).
All day long I made the 1st turn perfect. But then, in the most important moment I misjudged the entry speed and went to the sand trap. I did recover from the mistake, to draft him all over the front straight to lose by 0.018! It was one of the best races I ever had done, but at the same time I was frustrated with myself, for doing one single mistake the whole race, and it cost the win.
 
I did this in a stock premium NSX Type R '02 on SS tyres and it was good fun, but that was pre 2.02 update so it might be time for another go. Although I'll need more PP I suspect.

IMO, the main thing that has changed is that the AI now all seem to stop twice for tires. Though, as I mentioned, I've only just begun looking at this race, so there may be an AI that can still do the race on one stop for a new set of SS tires.

Our car's tires certainly will wear out slightly faster than before, but I suspect that most times we will be able to make the race a 2 stopper if we conserve our tires a little.

I will give it a shot against the rabbits at some point, so maybe at the higher speeds, our tires may wear out just a little more.

Time for some 4WD action. I check my garage and see a wonderfull looking Nissan Skyline GTR Vspec LM Ltd R33 '96 painted Champion Blue that is just itching for a chance at Grand Valley.

I have my trusty pit crew give the Skyline a once over and end up with the following specs:
Horsepower: 260
Weight: 1560 (window weight reduction then 30kg ballast)
PP value: 430
Tires: SH (used throughout the race)
Wing: @ 3, which is the minimum
Power limiter: 87.2%
No skid

I hold my position going into the first hairpin, so at the beginning of the race I'm right behind the 6th place Nissan 300ZX 2seater as we head towards the fast sweepers between the hairpins. The Nissan 300ZX 2seater slows as we get to the tight left-hander that's just before the first tunnel. I drive around both the Nissan and the 5th place Legacy Touring Wagon going thru this tight left-hander. At the end of lap # 1, I'm 6.4 seconds behind the leader of the race who is still the pole sitting Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX.

About half-way thru lap # 2, I catch up with the 4th place Mazda RX-7 Type RS. I'm presented with a number of corners during the lap where I could muscle my way past the Mazda, however, I take none of them because I decide to settle in behind the Mazda in order to conserve my tires. I will follow the Mazda RX-7 to the front as he passes the other cars, but I'm not going to push my Skyline so early in the race. The Mazda is getting slowed down by the 3rd place Infiniti G35 Coupe, so I find it easy to stay with the Mazda.

The Mazda RX-7 drafts past the Infiniti G35 Coupe as we begin lap # 3. It takes me until the 2nd hairpin on lap # 3 before I can get past the Infiniti G35 Coupe myself.

At the end of lap # 5, I'm still in 4th place, 6.1 seconds behind the leading Nissan Silvia Spec R after a 2.17.728 lap, which was my fastest lap so far in the race.

I catch the draft off the 3rd place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX as we go down the S/F straight at the end of lap # 8, so I pass the Fairlady Z under heavy braking going into the 1st hairpin on lap # 9. The Fairlady gives me a little tap on my rear-bumper to exhibit her displeasure with my pass (I guess I slowed down more than necessary going thru the hairpin). Lap # 8, helped by the drafting of the Fairlady, was a new lap record of 2.17.405.

As I begin lap # 9, I also see that we have a new leader of the race. The Mazda RX-7 has passed the Nissan Silvia (my guess that this was done via the draft down the S/F straight). At the 2nd checkpoint on lap # 9, I see that the leading Mazda has a 8.1 second lead over me, so we are going to see if I can match the Mazda's pace now that he's in the lead with a clear track.

When I cross the S/F line at the end of lap # 11, I see that I'm 12.5 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. I'm losing ground!

On lap # 14, I catch the 2nd place Nissan Silvia when he slows for the final esses. The Nissan Silvia gives me a great draft down the S/F straight as we begin lap # 15. I out-brake the Silvia going into the first hairpin, so I take over 2nd place in the race. At the first checkpoint on lap # 15, I see that I'm 14.6 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7.

By lap # 18, my tires are starting to lose their grip and my lap time grows to 2.20.162, and I fall 16.2 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. I've only used up about 1/3 of the life on the tire bars, but I'm afraid that that's about when the grip starts to go away. I want to make this a two stop race, so I've got two more laps to go before I can safely pit and get a new set of tires!

On lap # 19, I immediately forget that my tires have reduced grip, so I brake too late for the first hairpin and end up catching some sand before continuing on. I probably lost about 3 seconds. Chastened, I'm more careful for the rest of the lap.

At the end of lap # 20, I dive into the pits for a very welcome set of new SH tires and 15 liters of fuel. The first place Mazda RX-7 has a 20 second lead over me at the last checkpoint before my stop. While I'm in the pits the 3rd place Nissan Silvia streams past and takes over 2nd place in the race.

Just as I get released by my pit crew, the 4th place Subaru Impreza WRX STI streams past as well, so I begin lap # 21 in 4th place. The 5th place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX is about 5 seconds further back, so I'm able to get underway and back out on the racing line before she comes past. At the bridge on lap # 21, I see that I'm 49 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7.

Its certainly nice to be on fresh tires again, so on lap # 23, I see a new lap record of 2.17.384 and begin lap # 24 only 45 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. On lap # 24, I catch the 3rd place Subaru Impreza WRX as we drive across the bridge. The Subaru WRX is just behind the 2nd place Nissan Silvia ,so both cars are within reach.

The Subaru WRX gives me a great draft down the S/F straight and I think I hit a top speed of 141mph before having to slam on the brakes. The Subaru WRX goes up inside the Nissan Silvia as they go thru the 1st hairpin, so they swap positions. I'm now just behind the Nissan Silvia as we head off towards the big sweepers on lap # 25. I drive past the 3rd place Nissan Silvia as we go thru the fast sweepers before the 2nd hairpin. I know I need to stay with the Subaru WRX because he doesn't pit for another 8 laps according to my earlier race notes.

The Subaru WRX gives me another excellent draft as we go down the S/F straight and begin lap # 26. The Nissan Silvia has fallen about 3 seconds behind us, so he's no longer a threat, especially since I think he will pit this lap. On lap # 26, I pass the 3rd place Subaru WRX as we go thru the tight left-hander just before the 1st tunnel.

At the first checkpoint on lap # 27, I see that the 1st place Mazda RX-7's lead over me has shrunk to 38 seconds. Surely a sign that his tires are shot!

When I cross the S/F line to begin lap # 28, I streak past the Mazda RX-7 who is in the pits, so I take over first place in the race!! Yeah! The Mazda RX-7 must have a very fast pit crew because at the 2nd checkpoint on lap # 28, I see that he's only 3.1 seconds behind me.

On lap # 29, I catch and pass the Toyota Celica GT-FOUR as we drive thru the 3rd tunnel. Just ahead of the Toyota Celica is the Infiniti G35 Coupe, so I pass the G35 Coupe as well as I accelerate thru the high-speed right-hand sweeper just before the S/F straight.

Sadly, the Mazda RX-7 makes short-work of the two back-markers as well, so as I begin lap # 30, he's right on my rear-bumper. As I begin to accelerate down the S/F straight at the end of lap # 30, I catch and pass the Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon and put him a lap down.

When I begin lap # 31, I see that its taken me 1 hour, 10 minutes and 5 seconds to complete 30 laps, and I have a 1.1 second lead over the Mazda RX-7.

The Mazda drafts past me at the beginning of lap # 33, so I'm back in 2nd place for a while. Even though I run a 2.17.715 lap, I can't stay with the Mazda RX-7 who just powers away from me on his new tires, and he has a 2 second lead over me by the end of the lap.

At the end of lap # 37, I'm 9 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 who continues to pull away from me every lap.

At the beginning of lap # 38, the Mazda RX-7 catches up with some back-markers and momentarily gets slowed down a bit, thankfully.

At the end of lap # 40, I almost catch this back-marker (who is the Toyota Supra RZ) who blasts down the S/F straight as I dive into the pits for another set of SH tires and 15 more liters of fuel.

At the first checkpoint on lap # 41, I see that I've fallen 42 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7.

On lap # 42, I set a new lap record of 2.16.807 since I have nice new tires and a relatively low fuel load.

At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 43, I see that I've cut into the Mazda's lead which is now only 38 seconds. It looks to me that he's working on some back-markers and got slowed down a bit.

At the end of lap # 45, I've narrowed the Mazda's lead to 34 seconds. I also set a new lap record of 2.16.575.

I catch and draft past the 8th place Nissan 300ZX just before I cross the S/F line at the end of lap # 46.

On lap # 47, I catch and pass the Toyota Supra RZ as we cross the bridge.

On lap # 49, I catch and pass the Infiniti G35 Coupe as we go thru the 2nd tunnel. The back-markers are dropping like fly's!

At the end of lap # 50, I see that I'm only 22 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 who must be starting to slow on his worn tires (or he's tired from 2 hours of racing). I don't expect him to pit until lap 54 or lap 55, but he is slowing now.

At the end of lap # 53, I draft past the Toyota Celica GT-FOUR as I accelerate up the S/F straight.

I'm only 6 seconds behind the 1st place Mazda RX-7 when he pits at the end of lap # 55, so I get to drive by and take over the lead of the race!

On lap # 56, I catch and pass the Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon going thru the 2nd hairpin. At the second checkpoint I see that I now have a 24 second lead over the 2nd place Mazda RX-7.

At the end of lap # 58, I have a 22 second lead over the 2nd place Mazda as he begins to run me down.

On lap # 59, I catch and pass the Mits GTO Twin Turbo as I go across the bridge one more time.

After a final lap that takes 2.19.683 (my tires are nearly gone), I cross the Finish line after 2 hours 19 minutes and 37.369 seconds and win another trophy!

After some chassis work by my excellent pit crew, my Honda Integra Type R DC5 '04 has the following specs:

Off the line I coast for a bit, so the back-half of the field drives past and I follow the 11th place Lancer EVO IX GSR '05 into the first hairpin (the 2005 EVO was passed by both the 22B-STI Subaru and the other 2003 EVO going into the first hairpin). The AI always have trouble with the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel, so I take the opportunity to pass the 11th place Lancer EVO IX GSR '05 going thru this left-hander for my first pass of the race. I next pass the 10th place Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 going thru the tight left-hander just before the 2nd tunnel. I then power past the 9th place Subaru Legacy B4 Blitzen as we cross the bridge for the first time in the race.

At the beginning of lap # 2, I draft along-side the 8th place Subaru Impreza Coupe 22B-STI, but then the Subaru's superior speed shows itself, so the Impreza beats me into the first hairpin. I stay close to the Subaru 22B-STI, so I'm able to pass him going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. I then quickly pass the 7th place Nissan 300ZX 2by2 as we begin to cross the bridge again. Up next is the 6th place Lancer EVO GSR '92, who I pass going into the final chicanes on lap # 2.

On lap # 3, I pass the 5th place, and pole sitting, Lancer EVO III GSR '95 going thru the tight left-hander just before the 1st tunnel. I have no idea how the '95 Lancer EVO won the pole for this race because he's obviously certainly out-classed by most of the rest of the field and he's begun his steady march to the back of the field. Just before the end of lap # 3, I draft past the 4th place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.S and begin lap # 4 in 4th place some 9.6 seconds behind the race leading Mazda RX-7 Type RS.

On lap # 6, I pass the 3rd place Subaru Impreza Coupe WRX type R STI as we accelerate out of the 2nd hairpin. I had caught up with this Impreza WRX after getting a good draft down the S/F straight.

At the end of lap # 10, I see that I'm 7.1 seconds behind the race leading Mazda RX-7 after a 2.16.340 lap. The 2nd place Impreza WRX STI '02 is still right behind the leading Mazda RX-7, so I have a good view of them both.

On lap # 15, I catch and pass the 2nd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. At the end of lap # 15, I'm in 2nd place only 1.7 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 after a 2.17.984 lap.

I think that my tires are starting to lose their grip, so I wonder if I can get 20 laps out of them. So for the next couple of laps I stay close to the rear-bumper of the leading Mazda RX-7Type RS, but don't really push my Integra's tires so they will last the first 20 lap stint.

At the end of lap # 19, I've drafted right up to the leading Mazda RX-7, so when I begin lap # 20, I'm only 0.107 seconds behind him. I stay right behind the leading Mazda during lap # 20, and then dive into the pits at the end of the lap for a new set of SH tires and 15 liters of fuel.

As soon as I pit, I get passed by the 3rd place Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX who was lurking only a few seconds behind me. I also get passed by the 4th place Subaru Impreza Coupe WRX type R, who was about 10 seconds further back.

At the first checkpoint on lap # 21, I see that I've fallen 31 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7.

At the end of lap # 23, I see that I'm only 20 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 after a very nice 2.15.318 lap. I think that the leading Mazda is finally slowing down because of his old tires and it looks like the 2nd place Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 has caught him.

At the end of lap # 24, I draft past the 3rd place Subaru Impreza Coupe WRX type R just before the S/F line.

At the end of lap # 25, I draft past the Mits Lancer EVO III GSR '95 and begin lap # 26 only 10 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7.

At the beginning of lap # 27, the 2nd place Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 drafts past the leading Mazda RX-7 (who obviously is really faultering on his worn tires). I reach the rear-bumper of the faultering Mazda RX-7 just after the 2nd hairpin on lap # 27. This is a sure sign that I have too much car for the race. I expect that the Mazda will pit at the end of lap # 27, so I keep an eye out for this, but surprisingly, he doesn't.

So I draft past the Mazda as we go up the S/F straight to begin lap # 28. I'm now only about 1.5 seconds behind the first place Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02. On lap # 28, I catch and pass the leading Subaru Impreza WRX as we go thru the second tunnel and take over the lead of the race for the first time!

As I begin lap # 29, I can see that the 3rd place Mazda RX-7 has finally pitted. One lap too late for sure. Up ahead is a pack of four back-markers, so I'm going to have a busy lap. I quickly catch and pass the first car, which is the Nissan 300ZX 2by2 Z32 going thru the fast sweepers between the two hairpins. I also catch and pass another Lancer EVO GSR going thru the same sweepers (I think the 1992 one, but I'm not sure). I then catch the 3rd and 4th back-markers, who are the Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.S and the Subaru Legacy B4 Blitzen, as we all go thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. The Legacy B4 Blitzen is the 8th place car, so I've lapped the field up to 8th place at the moment. At the end of lap # 29, I have a 16 second lead over the 2nd place Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 because he has entered the pits which allows the Subaru Impreza Coupe WRX type R to drive past and take over 2nd place behind me.

At the first check point on lap # 30, I see that I have a 22 second lead over the 2nd place Impreza Coupe WRX type R. After 1 hour, 9 minutes, and 18 seconds I complete 30 laps with a 30 second lead over the 2nd place Subaru Impreza Coupe WRX type R. The Mazda RX-7 has climbed back up into 3rd place. The Subaru Impreza Coupe 22B-STI has climbed up into 4th plac and the Mits Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 is in 5th, with the Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 in 6th place.

At the end of lap # 33, I see that I have a 47 second lead over the Mazda RX-7 who has taken over 2nd place when the Subaru Impreza Coupe WRX type R finally pitted last lap.

My lead is 49 seconds over the Mazda RX-7 when I pit at the end of lap # 40 for a new set of SH tires and 15 liters of fuel.

At the 2nd checkpoint on lap # 41, I see that my lead over the Mazda RX-7 has been reduced to 17.2 seconds after my 2nd pit-stop. This is enough of a margin to make the last 20 laps a piece of cake.

With my nice new tires, I set a new lap record of 2.14.802 on lap # 42.

I catch and pass one of the old Lancer EVO's on lap # 46.

On lap # 50, I catch and pass the Subaru Legacy B4 Blitzen going thru the final esses.

On lap # 54, I catch and pass the Nissan 300ZX 2by2 as I cross the bridge again.

On lap # 56, I catch and pass another old Lancer EVO going thru the final esses.

After 2 hours, 18 minutes and 21.168 seconds I finish 60 laps and take the win!

Finishing order:
1) me in the Honda Integra
2) Mazda RX-7 -------------------about 1min,30secs back
3) Impreza Coupe WRX type R -----about 2 minutes back
4) Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 ----about 2 minutes back
5) Impreza Coupe 22B-STI --------about 2 minutes back
6) Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 ------lapped
7) Lancer EVO IX GSR '05 --------lapped

Good fun, even though I ended up with too much car. I will give this a shot with about 10 less horsepower next time.

Durn! I've been meaning to get this done with an Integra (albeit an older one) at 425. Guess I'll have to run it at 420 if you manage to take it at 425. ;)

I just noticed this thread and it makes me exited about making a contribution to the leaderboard!

But I also noticed that the rules have question marks for #3, and I noticed that the PL you've been using does not conform to the more rigorous (96%) value Famine is promoting for N4. Is PL an issue for which you'd consider establishing some minimum figure? I've considered the deliberations of Famine on this issue, and tend to agree with him. But even if you've reached the understandable position that 95% or 96% is too high, perhaps it would be reasonable to at least establish some other (lower) figure?

I was intentionally leaving a little more room for this with the lower powered cars that I expected for this race, but I agree that there is no need to leave this completely open. So my compromise is 85%. I will put an asterisk next to my 82% race!

I think that's a very reasonable limit, and should help promote entries from a wide variety of players.

Although I have unfinished business at N4, expect me to post a run within a few days at most.

I think its time to try out some German machinery, so from the VW new car dealership, I purchase a Volkswagen Golf V GTI '05 and take it to the Valley.

I then pass the 10th place Impreza Coupe 22B-STI going thru the tight left-hander just before the second tunnel. I also pass the 9th place Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 going thru the final esses and end the lap in 9th place.

On lap # 2, I catch and pass the 8th place Legacy B4 Blitzen going thru the 2nd hairpin. I then pass the 7th place Nissan 300ZX 2by2 going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. At the end of lap # 2, I'm in 7th place, 10.9 seconds behind the race leader after a 2.20.394 lap.

On lap # 3, I catch the 6th place Lancer EVO GSR '92 going into the first hairpin and I pass the EVO as we go thru the fast sweepers between the two hairpins.

On lap # 4, I catch and pass the 5th place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.S TT on the exit from the 2nd hairpin. Also on lap # 4, I catch and pass the Lancer EVO III GSR '95 going thru the final esses.

At the end of lap # 5, I see that I'm 20 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 Type RS after a 2.17.991 lap. The Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 is in 2nd place, the Impreza Coupe WRX type R STI is in 3rd place.

I set a new lap record of 2.17.015 on lap # 6.

At the end of lap # 10, I'm still in 4th place in the race, some 26 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 after a 2.18.102 lap.

On lap # 15, as I cross the bridge checkpoint, I see that I've fallen 31 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 and my lap times are beginning to suffer due to my worn tires. My last lap was a 2.20.178 without any mistakes. So I decide to make my race a 3 stopper. The tire bars still show about half their life remaining, however my tires have lost their grip. At the end of lap # 15, I pit for a new set of SH tires and 5 liters of fuel. While I'm in the pits I get passed by the 5th place Lancer EVO IX GSR '05, and the 6th place Subaru Impreza Coupe 22B-STI and the 7th place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.S.

As I get underway again on lap # 16, I get passed by the 8th place Nissan 300ZX 2by2, as he streaks past, so I chase him into the first hairpin. I follow the Nissan 300ZX 2by2 closely for a few turns, and then pass him by cutting across the cement going thru the left-hander after the 2nd hairpin. I'm now back in 7th place (just where I began the race!). At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 16, I see that I've fallen 62 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 due to my pit stop. A bit further along I catch and pass the 6th place Fairlady Z 300ZX going thru the final esses.

I set a new lap record of 2.16.801 on lap # 17 and reduce the Mazda RX-7's lead to 61 seconds.

As I begin lap # 20, I see that I've reduced the Mazda's lead to 57.8 seconds, so perhaps his tires are starting to show their age.

On lap # 21, I catch and pass the 5th place Impreza Coupe 22B-STI going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel.

When I begin lap # 23, I see that I'm now only 50 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 after a 2.17.264 lap.

On lap # 24, I draft past the 4th place Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 and take over 4th place in the race as we brake for the first hairpin.

At the end of lap # 25, I see that I'm now only 40 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 who must be really struggling on worn tires.

As I begin lap # 27, I get the news that the Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 has passed the Mazda RX-7 and taken over the lead of the race! Both cars are now only 37 seconds ahead of me.

On lap # 28, the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 pits which allows the 3rd place Impreza Coupe WRX type R to move up a position. After about 25 seconds I blast up the S/F straight and take over 3rd place in the race since the Mazda RX-7 is just being released from the pits.

On lap # 29, I catch and pass the 12th place Lancer EVO GSR '92 going across the bridge (and put him a lap down) even though my tires are pretty worn out.

At the end of lap # 30, I'm still 24 seconds behind the leading Impreza Coupe WRX type R when I pit for a new set of SH tires and 5 more liters of fuel. As soon as I pit I get passed by the Mazda RX-7. In the pits just ahead of me is the 2nd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 (who is pitting for his first time). While I'm in the pits, the Lancer EVO GSR '92 drives past and un-laps himself. A few seconds later, the Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 also drives past and drops me into 5th place in the race.

Just as I re-enter the race track from the pit-lane, the 6th place Impreza 22B-STI streaks past as well. On lap # 31, I follow th Impreza 22B-STI for a bit and then pass him going into the 2nd hairpin, so I find my self back in 5th place. At the first checkpoint on lap # 31, I see that I've fallen 43 seconds behind the leading Impreza Coupe WRX type R. Quite a margin because I still have one pit stop to go!!

On lap # 32, I pass the 4th place Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 going thru the tight left-hander just before the 2nd tunnel. I also catch and pass the Lancer EVO GSR '92 again as we go across the bridge.

Just as I begin lap # 33, I pass the Impreza Coupe WRX type R, who has finally pitted. At the first checkpoint on lap # 33, I see that I'm 27 seconds behind the 1st place Mazda RX-7 Type RS who has re-gained the top stop.

On lap # 35, I set a new lap record of 2.16.734.

On lap # 42, I pass the Lancer EVO IX GSR '05 as we go thru the final esses. I also pass the 8th place Nissan 300ZX 2by2 as we start to drive down the S/F straight.

On lap # 43, I pass the 7th place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.S going thru the first tunnel.

At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 45, I see that I'm still 35 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. My tires are pretty much shot, so I head into the pits for a final set of SH tires and 10 liters of fuel. While I'm in the pits, the Impreza Coupe WRX type R drives past and re-claims 3rd place in the race. Three other back-markers also stream past while I'm getting my new tires.

I'm shown in 4th place when I finally begin lap # 46. At the first checkpoint on lap # 46, I see that I'm 66 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7.

On lap # 48, I pass the Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.S going thru the tight left-hander just before the second tunnel.

On lap # 49, I set a new lap record of 2.16.698 and begin lap # 50 a full 59 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. I set a new lap record of 2.16.160 on lap # 50, using my new tires to their utmost.

On lap # 51, I catch and pass the 7th place Lancer EVO IX GSR '05 going thru the 2nd hairpin.

At the end of lap # 52, I catch and pass the Lancer EVO GSR '92 again as I begin to accelerate down the S/F straight.

At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 53, I see that I've reduced the Mazda's lead to 45 seconds. I suspect that the leading Mazda is starting to slow on his worn/old tires.

At the end of lap # 55, I see that I'm now only 36 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 after a 2.17.758 lap.

The leading Mazda RX-7 pits at the end of lap # 56, which allows the Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 to take over first place in the race.

The Mazda RX-7 exits the pits about 5 seconds ahead of me as I begin lap # 57. At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 57, I see that I'm still 21 seconds behind the leading Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02.

At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 58, I see that I'm still 17 seconds behind the leading Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02.

On lap # 59, I catch and pass the 3rd place Impreza Coupe WRX type R going thru the 2nd hairpin. I'm now only 16 seconds behind the leading Impreza Sedan WRX STI. However, my tires are pretty far gone at this point, so I'm losing ground to the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 who is pulling away from me.

At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 60, I see that I'm 13 seconds behind the leading Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02.

After 4 hours, 19 minutes, 39.5 seconds, the Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 crosses the finish line and takes the win (driven by L.Caputo). I follow across the finish line 12 seconds later and receive 3rd place winnings.

3) me in my Golf GTI ------- 12.4 seconds back

My Golf GTI had enough speed for a win, but having three pit stops took an extra 25 seconds that I just didn't have. My Golf does wear out its tires, so there was no way to run the race on only two stops. My last two laps before each pit stop were already suffering due to lack of grip, so trying to extend my tires even further would have been a useless exercise. I guess I needed a couple of extra horsepower to be just a little faster to catch the field at the end. Maybe next time!

To be quite honest, I'm in the midst of an extended love affair with the Lotus Elise 111R. I think this is the best normal car in the game. In trying to explore every facet of her ways, whether understeer, oversteer or tire wear, I'm entering her in most every race for which we are eligible.

Here at Grand Valley, I added maximum ballast, set minimum horsepower and maximum allowed PL of 85%. Even so, I erred and forgot to turn off ECU, so what could have been 395 PP was 401 instead. For future races in this event, I will go for a less powerful Elise, Vauxhall, Opel or maybe one of those cute gen-3 MR2's.

I mighs just have to have a crack at this one. I was going to run another Nurb 4hr but this looks interesting. An Elise or Suzuki GSX-R will probably always get the lowest PP marks so I think I might just go a little left-field here instead. ;)
 
I was skimming thru the lineups the other day, and noticed some very nice looking Nissan Z's, so for my next attempt I've decided to use one myself. I check my garage and find a very nice looking Nissan Fairlady, so I take it to the Valley.

After some chassis work by my excellent pit crew, my Nissan Fairlady Z Version ST Z33 '02 has the following specs:

Horsepower: 229
Weight: 1460kg (added 10kg of ballast)

Tires: SH (used thoughout the race)
P.Limiter: 86.1% (yikes! pretty close to the 85% limit!)

I hold my position going into the first hairpin so the game is afoot! On the exit from the second hairpin, I pass the 6th place Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.S TT. I then pass the 5th place Impreza Coupe WRX type R going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. Up next is the 4th place Lancer EVO GSR '92 who I catch and pass as we cross the bridge for the first time.

On lap # 2, I catch and pass the 3rd place Lancer EVO III GSR '95 going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel.

At the end of lap # 5, I get the news that I'm 8 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 Type RS after a 2.17.227 lap. The 4th place Impreza Coupe WRX type R has latched on to my rear-bumper, so I've had company for the last few laps even if I haven't found anyone to pass.

I set a new lap record of 2.16.878 on lap # 7.

At the end of lap # 10, I see that I've fallen 10.6 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. The 4th place Impreza Coupe WRX type R is still right behind me, never more than about 2 seconds back. The Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 is in 2nd place and he seems to be attached to the rear-bumper of the leading Mazda RX-7. I also set a new lap record of 2.16.638 on lap # 10.

After a 2.19.045 lap, I end lap # 15, 13.5 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. The 4th place Impreza Coupe WRX type R is still on my tail. My tires are just starting to show their age, but I think I will see if I can stretch them for 20 laps.

I hold my position for the next four laps and then pit at the end of lap # 20 for a new set of SH tires and 10 liters of fuel. As soon as I pit, the 4th place Impreza Coupe WRX type R drives past and takes away my position.

Just as I get released by the pit-speed limiter, the Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 drives past and drops me to 5th place in the race. The Impreza Coupe 22B-STI is in 6th place, but he's too far back to catch me. At the first checkpoint on lap # 21, I see that I'm 41 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7. And I'm about 2 seconds behind the 4th place Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03.

On lap # 22, I catch and pass the 4th place Lancer EVO VIII GSR '03 as we go thru the 2nd hairpin.

On lap # 23, I set a new lap record of 2.16.432 and end the lap only 32.5 seconds behind the leading but slowing Mazda RX-7.

Looking ahead up the track on lap # 25, I see that the two leaders have caught the back of the field and are being slowed down by the back-markers a little. At the end of lap # 25, I get the news that I'm 23 seconds behind the leading Mazda RX-7 who is obviously struggling on his worn tires.

On lap # 27, I catch and pass the 12th place Lancer EVO GSR '92 going thru the short chute just before the first tunnel. I also happen to notice that the Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 has taken over the lead of the race from the slowing Mazda RX-7. This is a sure sign that the Mazda needs to pit for some new tires!

On lap # 28, I catch and pass the 3rd place Impreza Coupe WRX type R going thru the 2nd hairpin. The Subaru Impreza is on pretty worn tires, so he's started to slow down significantly, though I don't think that he intends to pit for another 2 laps.

The 2nd place Mazda RX-7 pits at the end of lap # 28, so when I begin lap # 29, I find myself in 2nd place in the race, and only about 8 seconds behind the leading Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02.

At the end of lap # 29, I'm close enough to the first place Impreza Sedan WRX STI to see him drive into the pits. I continue driving up the S/F straight and take over the lead of the race as I begin lap # 30. Lap # 29 was a new lap record of 2.16.308.

I pass the Legacy B4 Blitzen as I drive thru the fast sweepers between the two hairpins on lap # 30. I also pass the Lancer EVO III GSR '95 going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel.

At the end of lap # 30, after 1 hour, 9 minutes and 27 seconds, I see that I have a 12 second lead over the 2nd place Impreza Coupe WRX type R who hasn't pitted yet.

On lap # 32, I pass the Nissan 300ZX 2by2 as we go thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. I also catch and pass the 8th place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX Ver.S as we begin to drive up the S/F straight at the end of the lap.

As I cross the first checkpoint on lap # 33, I see that the Impreza Coupe WRX type R has finally pitted and he falls back to 4th place in the race. The Mazda RX-7 has re-gained 2nd place but is fully 30 seconds behind me.

After a 2.16.311 lap, I end lap # 35 with a 29 second lead over the Mazda RX-7.

As I begin lap # 37, the Lancer EVO GSR '92 pulls out of the pits in front of me. I catch and pass the 1992 EVO as we accelerate away from the 2nd hairpin. My tires are starting to go away, so at the end of lap # 38 my lead over the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 is down to 26 seconds as he eats into my lead.

At the end of lap # 40, I dive into the pits for another set of SH tires and 10 liters of fuel. While I'm in the pits the 1992 EVO drives past and get one lap back.

As I get underway on lap # 41, the Mazda RX-7 drives past and drops me to 2nd place in the race. At the first checkpoint on lap # 41, I get the news that I'm 6 seconds behind the Mazda RX-7.

On lap # 42, I catch and pass the Lancer EVO GSR '92 as we go across the bridge.

At the end of lap # 44, I catch the leading Mazda RX-7 as he goes into the final esses so he gives me a nice tow down the S/F straight. I'm not fast enough to draft past him on the straight, so I settle in behind him as we brake hard for the first hairpin.

I follow the Mazda RX-7 closely for the next few laps (to save fuel and tires) but on lap # 48 the Mazda is slow to accelerate across the bridge, so I power past and take over the lead of the race. My tires are still in good shape, so I begin to pull away from the Mazda.

At the end of lap # 50, I have a 7 second lead over the Mazda RX-7 after a 2.16.521 lap.

On lap # 52, I pass the Lancer EVO III GSR '95 going across the bridge.

On lap # 54, I pass the Subaru Legacy B4 Blitzen going across the bridge.

I set a new lap record of 2.16.185 on lap # 55 and begin lap # 56 with a 23 second lead over the Mazda RX-7 who has started to fade on his worn tires. The Mazda RX-7 pits at the end of lap # 56, which allows the Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 to take over 2nd place in the race. At the first checkpoint on lap # 57, I see that I have s 35 second lead over the 2nd place 2002 Impreza. My tires are still in reasonable shape, so I just need to drive 3 more laps and I will take an easy win.

However, just to make things a little more interesting, I decide to pit at the end of lap # 57 for another set of SH tires and 5 liters of fuel.

At the first checkpoint on lap # 58, I get the news that I have an eleven second lead over the 2nd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02.

At the bridge checkpoint on lap # 60,I see that I have a 35 second lead over the Mazda RX-7 who has reclaimed 2nd place from the 2002 Impreza. The 2002 Impreza has fallen back to 4th place, so I think he pitted at the end of lap # 59.

After 2 hours, 19 minutes and 10.788 seconds I cross the Finish line and win another trophy!

I've got a strong hunch an MX-5 would do real fine in this race. I'd try a used 1800 with a six-speed transmission.

For my next attempt I decide that its time to take on one of the rabbits, so I scan the lineups and settle for lineup # 7 with the two Honda NSX's. I have a slightly used Impreza Sedan WRX STI Spec C Type RA '05 that is tuned to 435PPV and it would like to give the Valley a shot, so I launch right into another race.

After 50 laps I find myself in second place to the 2001 NSX and losing ground so I pull the plug.

So its back to the drawing board for another attempt. This time I let my pit crew really go to work on the tune, and end up with a Impreza that has eliminated most of the normal understeer. After this tuning my Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C Type RA '05 has the following specs:

Horsepower: 237
Weight: 1450 (added 60kg of ballast)
PPValue: 435
Tires: SH (used throughout the race)
P.Limiter: 87.2%
No skid

On lap # 1, I pass the 6th place Honda NSX '01 on the exit from the 2nd hairpin (his tires are cold, so he's slow to accelerate this early in the race)(in my first attempt, I did not pass the 2001 NSX on the first lap which was a mistake, because once his tires are warm, chasing him down is near impossible for my PPV challenged Impreza). I then pass the 5th place Honda NSX '90 going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. Up next is the 4th place Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX who I pass as we cross the bridge for the first time.

On lap # 2, I pass the 3rd place Impreza Coupe 22B-STI going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel.

On lap # 4, I see that the 4th place Honda NSX '01 has driven thru the field and reaches my rear bumper going into the first hairpin. At the end of the lap, I draft along-side the 2nd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 going down the S/F straight, but I don't have the top-end speed to get past, so I have to tuck-in behind the 2002 WRX as we go thru the first hairpin on lap # 5. The 2001 NSX is right on my rear-bumper, and is looking for any opportunity to get past me. Lap # 4 was a lap record of 2.15.076 since I was able to do some drafting for an increased speed bump.

On lap # 5, I pass the 2nd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 on the exit from the 2nd hairpin.

On lap # 6, I pass the first place Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI Ver VI '99 and take over the lead of the race. The Honda NSX '01 has followed me past the two WRX's, so at the end of the lap he is still about 1 second behind me.

At the end of lap # 10, I still have a 1 second lead over the 2001 NSX after a new lap record of 2.14.903.

At the end of lap # 15, I have a 1.6 second lead over the Honda NSX '01, who is still glued to my rear-bumper. The Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 remains in 3rd place, the Impreza Sedan WRX STI Ver VI '99 is in 4th place, the Honda NSX '90 is in 5th place, and the Nissan Skyline GTR R34 is in 6th place.

On lap # 19, I notice that the Honda NSX '90 has fallen back to 8th place, which means that he had to pit at the end of lap # 18 for new tires. In my previous attempt I noticed that he gets loose in some of the turns, so he uses up his tires pretty fast.

My tires have lost about half their life when I pit at the end of lap # 20 for a new set of SH tires and 12 liters of fuel. As soon as I pit the Honda NSX '01 drives past and takes over the lead of the race.

At the beginning of lap # 21, as my Subaru Impreza WRX is getting back up to speed, but is still pit-speed limited, I get passed by the 3rd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 and the 4th place Impreza Sedan WRX STI Ver VI '99, so I rejoin the race in 4th place, right behind the 1999 Impreza WRX. The 5th place Nissan Skyline GRT R34 is about 6 seconds further back, so he's not a threat at this point. The 6th place Impreza Coupe 22B-STI is another 5 seconds further back.

At the first checkpoint on lap # 21, I get the news that I've fallen 28 seconds behind the leading Honda NSX '01. I'm quickly able to pass the 3rd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '99 going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel.

On lap # 22, I pass the 2nd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. As I drive up the S/F straight at the end of the lap, I see that the leading 2001 NSX has pitted.

So when I begin lap # 23, I take over the lead of the race. The Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 is about 2 seconds behind me, so he takes over 2nd place in the race. The 2001 NSX falls back into 5th place, because of his early pit stop. At the first checkpoint on lap # 23, I see that I have a 3 second lead.

On lap # 24, I get the news that the Honda NSX '01 has begun his march back thru the field, and I see that he has taken over 4th place in the race.

At the beginning of lap # 25, I drive past a back-marker who has taken to the pits. I suspect that it is the Nissan Fairlady Z who usually pits after 23 laps. A bit later on lap # 23, I get the news that the 2001 NSX has taken over 3rd place in the race behind me. Just before the end of the lap, I get the news that the 2001 NSX has passed the 2002 Impreza and is now in 2nd place.

When I begin lap # 26, I see that I have a 13.7 second lead over the 2nd place Honda NSX '01. At the end of lap # 26, I pass the Nissan Silvia 240RS '83 going thru the final esses.

On lap # 27, I pass the Legacy B4 Blitzen going thru the fast sweepers between the two hairpins.

At the end of lap # 30, I still have a 12.7 second lead over the Honda NSX '01 after a 2.15.659 lap. Total race time is 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 37 seconds at the half-way mark.

On lap # 33, the 8th place Lancer EVO X GSR '07 pulls out of the pits just in front of me, so I will do my best to catch him this lap. I guess that the 2007 EVO still has pretty cold tires because I catch and pass him going thru the 2nd hairpin and put him a lap down without any trouble. At the end of lap # 33, I have a 6.4 second lead over the Honda NSX '01, so he's gaining on me at this point in the race. The 2001 NSX has climbed back up into 3rd place after the first round of pit stops. The Nissan Skyline GTR R34 is in 4th place, and the Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 is in 5th place at this point in the race.

I still have a 7 second lead over the 2nd place Honda NSX '01 on lap # 38 when I get the news that the 1990 NSX has pitted for a second time (and the 1990 NSX falls back to 6th place in the race).

On lap # 40, I pass the Legacy B4 Blitzen going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel. I pit at the end of lap # 40 for another set of SH tires and 12 liters of fuel. As soon as I pit, I get passed by the Legacy B4 Blitzen. After about 6 seconds, I also get passed by both the 2nd place Honda NSX '01 and the 8th place Lancer EVO X GSR '07 cars.

At the first checkpoint on lap # 41, I get the news that I'm 22.6 seconds behind the leading Honda NSX '01.

I really push my Impreza hard for the next few laps, so I set a new lap record of 2.14.354 on lap # 43.

On lap # 44, I catch and pass the Legacy B4 Blitzen going thru the tight left-hander just before the 2nd tunnel.

I'm about 7 seconds behind the race leading Honda NSX '01 when he pits at the end of lap # 44, so I drive past and take over the lead of the race.

At the 2nd checkpoint on lap # 45, I get the news that I have a 23 second lead over the 2nd place Honda NSX '01.

On lap # 46, I catch and pass the 8th place Lancer EVO X GSR '07 going thru the fast sweepers between the two hairpins.

At the end of lap # 50, I see that I have a 16 second lead over the Honda NSX '01.

On lap # 51, I pass the 7th place Impreza Coupe 22B-STI going thru the tight left-hander just before the first tunnel.

At the end of lap # 53, I see that my lead has been reduced to 12.8 seconds by the Honda NSX '01, even after a nice 2.14.795 lap.

At the end of lap # 56, I see that my lead has been reduced to 10.3 seconds over the 2nd place Honda NSX '01.

On lap # 57, I catch and pass the 4th place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '99 going thru the 3rd tunnel.

At the end of lap # 58, I pass the Lancer EVO III GSR '95 and put him 2 laps down.

On lap # 59, I catch and pass the 3rd place Impreza Sedan WRX STI '02 going thru the 2nd tunnel. At the bridge checkpoint, I can see that my lead over the 2nd place Honda NSX '01 is now only 8.3 seconds.

I drive a nice conservative lap # 60 (with somewhat worn tires) and win another race trophy after 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 5.630 seconds!

3) Nissan Skyline GTR ----- 1 lap down
4) Impreza WRX STI '99 ---- 1 lap down

The Honda NSX '01 is surely a rabbit! It laps the field during the race, so to beat it you must as well!

There is certainly some variability to how well the AI drive each race even if they are in the same car. In my first race against this lineup, I let the Honda NSX '01 get past early in the race (intentionally) and then tried to follow him for the rest of the race without success (bit by bit he was able to pull away from me). In the above race, I passed the NSX on lap # one, with the expectation that I might have to block him to stay ahead later in the race. However, this second NSX must have been somewhat less experienced, because after one slight block on lap # 4, I never again had to get in his way. He stayed close behind me for the first 20 laps, but never again tried to drive past me.

I though about running this below 420PP but I would have to break the 85% power level rule, so 422PP it was. :D

Lap times as follows (time at end of lap):
Lap 1: 2:16.632 - easily pick off the opposition by simply running around the outside of them. Settle into third behind the RX-7 and first place WRX STi. -11 secs.
Lap 2: 2:14.701 - pick my lines, get used to the car and slowly gain. 3rd place -8 secs down.
Lap 3: 2:14.694 - keep gaining. -6 secs.
Lap 4: 2:14.760 - good consistency sees me catch and pass the RX-7 just before the first tunnel. In 2nd place -3 secs down.
Lap 5: 2:14.521 - right up to the WRX Sti. -1 sec.
Lap 6: 2:15.170 - take 1st place through the long tunnel curve, so much more grip than the AI. 1st by +0.083 as the WRX is faster on the straights.
Lap 7: 2:14.553 - WRX passes me on the straight but I go around the outside at the first turn. +1.5 secs.
Lap 8: 2:15.520 - RX-7 catches and passes the WRX. +2 secs.
Lap 9: 2:15.027 - pulling a second a lap. +3 secs.
Lap 10: 2:15.545 - nice and consistent. +4 secs.
Lap 11: 2:15.995 - RX-7 drops 3 seconds, don't know why. +7 secs.
Lap 12: 2:15.462 - +8 secs.
Lap 13: 2:15.962 - tyres down to 67% but I'm losing a little grip. RX-7 matches me for the first time. +8 secs.
Lap 14: 2:16.946 - +8 secs
Lap 15: 2:16.561 - +8 secs
Lap 16: 2:16.977 - OK now losing more grip on these tyres - must get to 20 laps though so I knuckle down and concentrate on my braking points and lines to open the gap. +9 secs

Lap 18: 2:17.889 - +10 secs.
Lap 19: 2:18.888 - +11.5 secs.
Lap 20: PIT IN: 2:39.823 - I'm losing 4 secs a lap over fresh tyres but I managed to open the gap to the RX-7. Are his tyres suffering as well?
Lap 21: PIT OUT: 2:24.632 - I exit in 3rd as the lead RX-7 and WRX go through. I pick off the WRX through the high speed section before the second hairpin. Finish lap -13 secs down in second place.
Lap 22: 2:14.560 - Phew, aren't new tyres great! Took 5 secs out of the RX-7's lead. -8 secs.
Lap 23: 2:14.720 - reeling him in now. When's he going to pit? -3 secs.
Lap 24: 2:14.402 - screen full of RX-7 backside. -1.5 secs.
Lap 25: 2:13.966 - oops! First mistake as I out brake myself at the first corner. Only lost a second or so. 1st place before first tunnel. +3 secs.
Lap 26: 2:15.183 - pull out a lead. +9 secs.
Lap 27: 2:14.998 - the RX-7 really needs to pit as I'm pulling about 6 secs a lap on him. +15 secs.
Lap 28: 2:15.111 - +20 secs.
Lap 29: 2:15.317 - +28 secs.
Lap 30: 2:15.842 - RX-7 and WRX pit. At this point I must have already lapped half the field. It's only half way but RX-7's one pit strategy has cost him the race. When he pits I'm +36 secs ahead (+54 secs afterwards)!



Lap 31-60: More of the same with my laps for 5 laps on new tyres around 2:14.xxx, the next 10 laps around 2:16.xxx and the final 5 before a pit stop around 2:18.xxx. I pitted again on lap 40 but this 3-lap strategy combined with consistent lap times means I just kept pulling away. I only had one more mistake and that was the slightest of kiss of the wall through the big tunnel curve whilst lapping the Lancer Evo '92 on worn tyres (that's my excuse anyway :sly: )

Finishing time was 2:16:58.739 with a winning margin of +1:50.223 over the second place RX-7 and 3rd placed WRX STi.

Fastest lap was on lap 43 (fresh tyres): 2:13.887.

Conclusion:
A little too much car for this field at 422PP but the only way to get that down would be an unnecessary amount of ballast. Great fun though and this car is a real alternative to the more usual lightweight MR crowd. If I ran it again I might just try for a slippery one-stop strategy as I was surprised how much time the field lost on their tyres (just like the good old days pre-2.03 update) or on comfort softs.

One final note: Oooh, the luxury of a wide open circuit after months of running enduros at Nurburgring! Two tiny mistakes in 60 laps is testament to the Garaiya and the Nurb as a training ground! ;)

Nicely done axletramp!

Did you happen to notice what the 2002 Mazda RX-7 ran for his best lap? I have only run against him once, and I did not note his best lap time for my list.

I have found that the AI struggles going thru the tight left-hander just before the 1st tunnel and they are slow to accelerate across the bridge. Did you find yourself making most of your passes in these two spots, or does having sport medium tires make the passing points different?

Thanks. I don't have an exact time, but going by my lap times and the gap to second, I'd say we were pretty well matched at about 2:16.000. I was definitely gradually pulling away in the 2:15.xxx's.

I made a number of passes through the first left hander and it was especially handy to catch the faster cars because, as you say, they back out of it quite aggressively - I think I overtook the RX-7 twice through there. It takes a couple of laps to get used to how hard they brake! I found that staying wide and under cutting them was the easiest and cleanest way. If you try and follow them in you'll slam into their tailgate when they over-brake.

Another slow point was through the long tunnel where they also brake too much. I'm not sure how different this may have been on SH tyres, I guess I would have just stuck to them through the difficult turns and tried to out drag them to the next. The SM tyres, especially in the first 10 laps of a new set, were grippy enough to run around the outside of most of the opposition when they braked.

Now I know what's going on I think my next run will be against the NSX Type-R which looks the pick of these grids. I have a feeling 420PP wouldn't be enough there for me. Is it in the region of 2:10.xxx for it's best laps?

I think I've only once passed a car going thru the long third tunnel. And it was one of the backmarkers. Otherwise, on the SH tires, I find that there's not enough grip to make any passes thru there. I often pass the cars as we go across the bridge, and sometimes going thru the final esses because the AI are slow in both places compared to me, but not thru the long tunnel.

I haven't run against the NSX Type R '02 since the tire model change, so I'm not sure of his lap times. My guess would be that they are in the high 2.11's or low 2.12 second range. And I suspect that he will pit twice, so it should be possible to beat him!

Probably down to the SM tyres and a 880Kg kerb weight more than any superhuman abilities on my part. :D
 
In keeping with the idea of running a novel, lightweight MR for a change, I garaged my Lotus track car and borrowed my grand daughter's Toyota MR-S V Edition (6MT) '02. This is normally her terrific, Blue Mica economy commuter, but a trip to TRD for a high rpm turbo kit and a set of sports softs on BBS rims convinced me it had the potential to whup up on the Grand Valley 300K lineup #1.

Some pre-race testing and adjustment left it with some reassuring understeer, but excellent speed through the apexes could be felt, and straightaway speed was superlative due to the strong power curve and close ratio 6 speed box.

Tire wear was the unknown factor going into the race. After a laggardly start, I was soon making up positions right and left, and so acceded into the lead by lap 2, laying down a 2:15.2xx time on lap 8 as I pulled away at a rate of about a second a lap. Soon it became clear that I could only do a one-stopper by slowing my lap times to preserve the front tires, which were wearing a bit faster than the rears. So I stopped on lap 20, even though losing the lead briefly, and again on lap 40 so that I could indulge myself in high speed cornering without much care for the tires.

By lap 58 I lapped the 2nd place Mazda RX-7 Type RS (FD) '98, so it can be seen the cute little Toyota can be tuned into an effective track car for the weekend, and revert to a humble commuter the next week!

I have decided that its time to take on the Valley with the Red HKS EVO IX.

Yes it was way too powerful for any car on the track but i had just unlocked level 25 and wanted to get myself into the mood of Endurance racers.

Smashed it out in 2hours 3minutes. I did well on Racing Soft tyres i had to pit every 7laps and i filled up twice within the 60 lap event.

Not a bad effort will now try doing it with other cars see how it ends up going.
