General info about races: Our goal is to provide a racing simulation experience for everyone. Real off-road grip, weak slipstream, tire wear on, and yes, heavy damage! ABS is optional.

The potential for damage encourages respect and sportsmanship among everyone, making penalties unnecessary – GT5's penalty system is easily gamed, often penalizes the victim and does nothing to further the "racing simulation".

The races are usually long enough to require at least one pit for tires and/or gas depending on the car. We also enjoy racing real life cars, and offer a wide range of racing experiences, from VW Buses to F1's, some tuned, some untuned, you name it. Feel free to check out the Facebook ( http://tinyurl.com/GT5-LPP ) page to post race suggestions and say hello!

Date & Time: Sun July 15, 9:00 PM EDT / Sun July 15, 6:00 PM PDT / Mon July 16, 1:00 AM GMT Time zone converter here

Room & Car regulations:

Lotus Elise 111R RM '04 (premium)
2edpan9.jpg

Race Mod required, 525 Performance Points, Sports Soft tires
  • Heavy damage
  • No penalties
  • Weak slipstream
  • Tire wear/Fuel consumption on
  • Real grip reduction on wet/edge
  • Visual damage on
  • ABS available
  • All other assists off
Qualifying & Rolling Starts:
  • Qualifying begins promptly at 9:00 PM Eastern (refer to the countdown timer above if you're not on the east coast) and will last 15 to 30 minutes.
  • When you have a time you like, pull over to a secluded spot or sit in the pits, while we record your time. If you are unable to complete a qualifying lap in the time alotted, or if you leave or exit the track before we record your lap time, you will start at the back of the pack.
  • If lap times are not registering properly on my screen, we will tell everyone to keep track of their lap times.
  • At the start of the race, drivers will manually line up in formation for a ROLLING START. When the race timer counts down, and the race START message appears, DO NOT MOVE. Stay in the starting grid until the starting line up is called out.
  • We will manually line up in qualifying order. Once everyone is in the correct order, the driver in the pole position will set a pace not exceeding 60 MPH / 96 KPH, and begin the race by breaking that pace. Please do not overtake other drivers until the pole/pace car breaks pace and begins accelerating to race speed. Then, THE RACE IS ON.
Full Course Caution Until Clean Start:
  • This policy applies until we complete one continuous clean lap or two continuous minutes of clean racing on longer courses, without multi-car incidents.
  • If there are any multi-car incidents, where any driver is knocked well off the track by another driver, we will call a FULL COURSE CAUTION. The policy does not apply to individual drivers losing control, even if an offending driver has minor contact with other drivers who continue racing.
  • Once a caution is issued, please do not overtake any drivers, even if you are heading to the pits.
  • All drivers (not in the pits) will form-up for another Manual Rolling Start behind the current race leader, who will maintain pace speed until everyone is in formation again, and restart according the approach used at the beginning of the race.
Prizes:
  • First place (Lvl 17 car ticket)
  • Second place ( Lvl 7 car ticket)
  • Car paints for at least the top half of the participants including Chrome paints
Other notes: For the most part, the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines apply with some changes.
  1. Bump drafting is allowed where it makes sense.
  2. Keep moving on the track, regardless of incident, unless cars behind you are approaching. Time, depending on severity of incident, will be added to your final race time once complaints are filed and replays checked.
  3. Drivers that are to be lapped are under no obligations to move out of the way, as long as they are not intentionally blocking. Most tracks have many sections to overtake. If you're faster, you'll find a way to pass.
  4. There will be no race restarts for people that disconnect, unless something extreme happens like half the room disconnects at the same time. Common sense will dictate what's appropriate. People that disconnect will still earn points (where applicable) depending on when they disconnected.
  5. Track boundaries are generally the same as those enforced by the GT5 penalty system and as defined by section 16: Offline Racing in the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules linked above. See the illustration below. Occasional unintended incursions will be tolerated, particularly if you visibly attempt to correct a bad line by braking, etc. or you have lost control of your vehicle. Patterns of abuse will not be tolerated, and complaints will be investigated as noted in #2 above.

Sorry guys, we have switched to a Manual Rolling Start policy. Please see above. I will be sending PSN messages to warn the regulars and anyone who signed up.

In our Friday night race, we learned that even if we reset the course and line up in order before the race, it does not guarantee the starting grid will be correct.

So we are moving to a manually forming up a rolling start. The driver in pole position will act both as pace car and waive the green flag when he/she puts the hammer down.

Also, as our rooms get larger, it is harder to avoid collisions with a grid start. The rolling start should reduce problems, and the new caution policy will allow us to continue regrouping and restarting until we get a clean lap.

Once we see how things go Sunday night, I will also update any future Sunday races I posted.

I'm usually in the bottom half, if not last lol, so take that into consideration.

Average probably 1:39.500 to 1:40.500.

Was pulling low 37s, just curious about everyone else. How many people are signed up?

We will definitely have a quorum. For Sundays, we always have a solid core of regulars, who do not post here (that number is growing). So, expect at least 4 to 6 more than you might see posting here.

Also added the disconnect policy (#4).

Looking forward to tonight, I shouldn't have any problems making it.

I dont think i'll be racing tonight guys.. Sorry. But if anything changes i will post here. Willing to race with you guys another time. Goodnight.

Great racing, that was the closest racing I've had so far!

I think it would have been closer if I wasn't involved in that accident with Phil, still a great race. Quality group, hope you don't mind if I race with you guys again.

The races afterwards are always enjoyable. The performance points system works really well with all human players.

Don't be discouraged, it'll be fun.
I'd only stay out of one of these races if my time was way, way off. I wouldn't want to be just in the way of the leaders with a bad-handling car.

I'm glad the damage I got this time didn't put me in the way of the leaders; I ran into someone at the Tesla Roadster race early on and ruined their day. I'm not sure if aaNOOB got damage from that, but it seemed like a bit much for how little of a tap it was (I was passing on the inside and he didn't see me).

5. aaNOOB
6. alefin
7. CommonDeer
8. kirktreks (DC'd about lap 14?)

It was an fun race. The rolling start formed up quickly and was uneventful.

Had I not disconnected, I think I would have had a good run at a podium spot. I was making up ground on the two ahead of me for multiple laps running. It was my first DC of the week -- so still not completely solved, but much much better -- hopefully just dumb luck.

Futures, you are welcome to continue racing even if you are out of contention. Hanging in there makes it fun for others at the back of the pack and gives them something to race for. I am always just happy to pick up one or two spots late in the race, or at least try to.

Staying in also increases the challenges for leaders, just by making them lap you. It is up to you to decide whether to make it easy for them. Either way, it helps both players develop skills for keeping up with other cars on track.

Still, it is your choice. I almost never give up, even though I usually finish about the middle of the pack. I can only recall maybe once or twice in 18 months racing with this bunch, where I pulled off to watch the rest of the race.

Ah yeah, I did that in my first race with this group (TVR Tamora/Speed 6). Due to some first race troubles, I ended up starting with my rain tires (comfort soft for that race), which put me one lap down at Suzuka. I actually made it to not-last-place for a while, but still finished last.

The Tesla race was similar, but through pit strategy I was able to come from almost two laps down to win.

Though, this series has been the source of a lot of fun, so I'll probably find it hard to give up on a slow car anyway.
