Thanks for the follow-up Big. No hard feelings. Like I said, the intent was not to flame but to raise awareness of an attitude I thought was fairly well accepted. In fact, the
GTPlanet Online Racing (OLR) Rules & Guidelines say...
07: Contact Concessions:
A:
If there’s contact between drivers that results in the guilty driver making up places on the innocent driver, the guilty driver should immediately allow the innocent driver to pass freely to re-establish their position. This rule should be observed, even if it means the guilty driver has to allow drivers not involved in the incident to pass while waiting for the driver they contacted.
As you can see with the exchange with alefin, there is a wide range of perspectives on that question, and on Sundays, we co-officiate. So how 'bout that!
Further complicating the matter, all of our Real Racing Sim posts, even mine, include the following exception to the GT Planet Online Racing Rules under Other Notes (originally drafted by alefin):
Keep moving on the track, regardless of incident, unless cars behind you are approaching. Time, depending on severity of incident, will be added to your final race time once complaints are filed and replays checked.
However, before this discussion, I never understood that to alefin "Keep moving on the track", means, "Keep racing." I interpretted it to be consistent with the GT Planet OLR Rule on Contact Concessions above. I thought alefin was trying to clarify that you should not
stop on the track and block anyone. This again is why I used the language "slow up". I never imagined that he intended to eliminate
07: Contact Concessions entirely.
So, at this point I would have to say that alefin's view is not in line with the larger GT5 community, where most of the time, there are no racing officials to assess penalties and adjust race results.
But, you can decide for yourself. There is no requirement to stop, which means that anyone you offend has to file a complaint to see any justice done. So, you offend them once with a driving fault, and then put them in the awkward position of having to be a rat fink, instead of
owning up to your own schnitty driving and giving up positions (concessions).
The problem is even worse for those without mics like you Big, because you can't even apologize until you pit or after the race, which is usually too late to help an offended driver avoid several angry laps. Only your actions reflect your remorse. Again, your choice.
