May I raise the issue of "Honking the Horn" when close behind another driver? Since when did they start putting horns on race cars?

Is the horn telling me to get out of the way? Is it an attempt at intimidation?

In the real world of racing, which we are trying to duplicate I think, when the drivers returned to the pits ........ said horn would be placed on/in the honking driver's person. And would be thus motivated to focus more on passing than the stupid honking.

May I suggest the "Honkers" take the same suggestion? I know most of you are better drivers than I am - you will get around me, eventually. So, cut the horn wires, if you will.

I think most of the "honkers" are DS3 users. The default is to map it to L3, which tends to get pressed when someone is pushing hard through a turn. So, DS3 users, unmap that horn button!

Warning - The question below contains no sarcasm or malice and is not intended to start a big ruckus. It is solely intended to clarify an issue that has not been discussed as far as I can remember.

I'm not defending anyone or jumping on any bandwagons...what is the rule on following too close? How do you get a warning for doing so? Do you receive a warning when you follow too close and end up late braking which in turn takes out the driver in front of you? Or do you simply get a warning for extreme tailgating?

I ask because for example at Deep Forest in the 350Z, there aren't a lot of passing zones. In a case like that, a decent strategy is putting pressure on the driver in front of you to make a mistake by riding his bumper. No contact, just really close following. Is this frowned upon?

Here is my take:

The warning was probably a coaching moment for someone who is on probation and still putting themselves in a position to do more harm if they aren't perfect in their driving.

We all pop the guy in front of us on occasion but if you are on their bumper all the time, it is inevitably more frequent. It is also more likely that the inevitable pop pushes them off their line instead of being just a harmless bump since your gap is much narrower and a faster reaction time is needed.

If you already have a history of incidents and are already on probation, getting warned about things that you do to cause those incidents are probably appropriate where they would not be for someone who is not on probation and doesn't have a history of incidents.

They are just "Horny Honky Tonkers" That like to Honky Tonk and Donky Donk.

I am truly sorry for what I have done and caused here. I think this community is a great community full of caring people. There has been a lot learned here for me, more than what you might think. Thank you for the rebuking.

I ask for forgiveness from the community with a sincere and mourning heart. I am sorry, will you forgive me for what I have done?

I love you coach.... i forgive you :dopey:

A pertinent question has been building up in my mind.... What's gonna happen when the PS4 comes out? A lot of people will be able to buy it on the first weeks but some other people will probably have to wait for a christmas or a birthday. How will that affect our BEAUTIFUL community and our GORGEOUS competition?

I expect I will purchase the PS4 early on. I know like many others I will try the new games. I still think I will be racing in SNAIL. I am not certain the new drive club sounds like our style of racing. It sounds more like games and stunts, less SPEC racing.

I think it is difficult to predict what will happen so many months in advance. New games will be announced others will roll out. I plan on taking a wait and see approach.

I must say in desperation one does on things.

Coach had spoke with about feeling like he was a marked man.

My only advice was to head by what is being said and work on getting off the radar.

Myself, I can forgive you. Here's hoping you can get things in order and back on track and learn from mistakes. That's when mistakes become life lessons and build character.

Best of luck. Honesty is key. :)

This is really off topic, but since wolfs post about plays got me thinking. If any of you guys have a local theater and they are ever supposed to perform a play called "August: Osage County" go see it. Its a great hilarious play, But don't bring your kids, it's really dark, really dark

You exhibit a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on track; sometimes you race extremely well, while in others your racecraft is next to NULL and yet you complain about anyone bumping you while you wiggle all around the track while defending your position 'even on the straights!'. You get 1 move, (lol)then you need to maintain your line!

Let's Guess... Name that Play in 4 Acts!

I would just like to point out a couple of things.
A. those pics aren't the best examples. We get the gist from your story, but the only thing the pictures show, is you losing control and taking someone out. The second or third pic, you should have gotten one that showed the contact, and not just a car close to yours.

B. This is one that has been getting ignored a lot lately I think.
"In case the procedure regarding race incidents is not followed and the driver decides to discuss the racing incident in public here on the S.N.A.I.L. forum, the driver may be given a warning or an infraction (in case of repetition or blunt accusations) by one of the S.N.A.I.L. admins."

Not only do we have a steward network to handle issues like this, it also makes the thread over all look like crap.
People, if you have issues with another driver, please be courteous and take it off the thread. PM the person directly, or goto your division stewards and director. But blasting trash talk, accusations, and some down right mean banter here makes us all look bad.

Are there penalties for practice?

Picture 2 shows the actual hit; you will never get a picture showing the 'actual' contact from my own experience taking hundreds of pictures. But if you dont belive it, Ill send you the replay you can judge it for yourself.

It is frustrating that you DO THE RIGHT THING execute an clean pass and that is how you get taken out of the race on the next 2 corners. "But its only practice has been his response".

But since it makes YOU look so bad Ill take them down.

Secondly... the only problem with the complaint process is that it assumes that you have time to do so. 10 pm on Monday it is less than 24 hours after racing which for me it is an extreme luxury doing so.

I have a proposal that I think has merit and I believe most Snails would agree to but really don't know for sure:

I would like racers to mute mics during the race with one exception: to notify a lagger of his condition. I think that is a legitimate exception and will actually help other racers like a spotter. Most other talk is not really helpful for everyone racing and can be an unwanted distraction.

Does anyone agree?

No, but the stewards are still the correct place to go with complaints -- but really, most of the time the best approach is to PM the other driver, and discuss it in private.

In any case, airing grievances on the thread is frowned upon.

Yes and no. Yes some of the chatter can be distracting....and no as it can be useful; say someone spins out right in front of you and you're not sure whether you gave them a tap that caused it, you just jump on the mic and ask.

I know it has been an eventful week in SNAIL and I don't mean to seem pushy, but are we close to hearing about division placements for the next season?

I know stewards are very busy sorting everything out. Just wondering if I missed a post or if we are still waiting.

Thanks guys

Absolutely. That and typing which also happened once. I get distracted really easily. LOL once i was following Zer05ive in second place and greenthumb was behind me on third position and he fishtailed hard at the exit of a tight tsukuba corner and i was (enjoying) the whole accident through my rearview mirror. When i looked back at front i was on the grass, lost the car and race was over. I got so mad i just turned off the playstation! :dopey:

Well.. whatever is discussed in that forum is not out in the open and I've done so before. Case closed no hard feelings.👍

Happily for me we race on different divisions and if I happen to practice together perhaps I'll choose plan B.

I'm patiently waiting on that too Jester:scared:

Usually the Sat or even Sunday morning of this weekend (you get a message from kcheeb, "You are in D6 this week..." Or something like that. ;-)

Have we heard Zer0's ideas on the newly time unavailable drivers, what are the options, or what is the plan?

Tried a few laps in the two Vettes. The RM on Mediums is tolerably decent at first blush, not torturous. The '60 is... More challenging.
