Ah. đź‘Ť I've enjoyed seeing how far I can get with open diffs on the 469, because it resembles the setup on my Legacy, but as a 4WD I don't think the 469 is supposed to have open diffs, either.

This car is old, it was introduced in 1973, and it's a simple military vehicle. No wonder it doesn't have diff locks. As far as I know, an old American military jeep, M151 MUTT, has open diffs as well.
Nowadays, when UAZes are tuned for hard off-road going, axles with lockable diffs are one of the basic upgrades.

What I mean is I would expect a 4WD vehicle to have a locked front axle when you engage 4WD, and maybe a limited slip differential on the back.

EDIT: I just managed a feat with the UAZ, crossing from the new area in the current demo to the old area from the original Kickstarter tech demo, but without the road. ;)

If you go to the new area and turn right at the rocks, you'll follow a rough road that eventually meets a steep hill. To the right of this slope lies a section of trees with just enough room to thread the UAZ through, as in this sketch of the map:

mapcross.png

Conveniently, the entry point I found lies just to the left of a couple of large boulders. It took many attempts to work out a path between the trees and larger branchy bushes, but finally I reached a point where I knew I could make it to the lake, so I began taking screenshots:

With these tires in this muck, even a steep descent is slow, but gravity guarantees progress. Even when I hit the thickest mud of all in the last several feet, I knew it couldn't stop me. :) Before long, I managed to dip my tires in:

I have really high hopes and expectations regarding the full version. SpinTires is by far the most fun off-roading game, with the best terrain deformation and graphics second only to Anteworld, but the engine is much better optimized and physics superior. I'm really excited, it has just so much potential!

Have you ever played Sega Rally Revo or the recent ATV games? The terrain deformation is VERY similar.

Yes and actually in my eyes terrain deformation is the only positive thing about those games, both are arcade racers.

Oh, coop would be awesome in this game. One player gets stuck and another rescues him with a tow... I want it!

Wolfe, nice find, thanks for sharing! đź‘Ť

@Rage Racer: :cheers:

Glad to hear they made that stretch goal. I hope it makes ÂŁ80k, only because of this one:
  • Internal cockpit views (with reflective mirrors, and working window wipers).
Also, I just noticed that we get alternating weather for each 24h cycle:

Wow! Never noticed this before. đź‘Ť

By the way, the developers say:
The wild off-road adventure begins in Russia, circa 1980-90.
But this Kamaz is 2000 model. Something is wrong... :grumpy:

Also, I've just found out that Ural 43204 was confirmed for the game, together with the MAZ 535 we already have. It was a long time ago (December 2011), but we still don't have any info about that Ural.

Actually, it says:
Concept Campaign Mode (subject to change):

The wild off-road adventure begins in Russia, circa 1980-90. You are supplied with a soviet truck and a set of primitive tools for navigation. The task is to collect and deliver logs from deep within the wilderness, ready for shipment abroad.
So nothing is sure yet, these are probably just loose ideas.

I has an idea đź’ˇ Maybe a task in the game would be delivering supplies to build proper roads, so that trucks like the Kamaz can get to places quicker and easier đź’ˇ

Hmm... really. If so, I'd like the campaign to be divided in 3 parts:

1980's: Soviet vehicles only, with a small amount of trucks from the other socialistic countries for that time - Czechoslovakia (Tatra, Skoda), Eastern Germany (IFA), etc. And maybe as a bonus - American lend-leased vehicles of WWII (like Studebaker US6, Dodge WC51 and Willys MB). Primitive equipment, no GPS, only compass and a paper map. :)

1990's: USSR has collapsed, the Iron Curtain has fallen, and import vehicles are coming to Russia from the rest of Europe, Japan and USA. American (Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon), European (MB G-Klasse, Range Rover) and Japanese (Mitsubishi Pajero, Toyota LC, 4Runner, Nissan Patrol) SUVs which become known as mafia's cars in the '90s.

2000's: Modern Russian vehicles (GAZ Sadko, GAZelle 4x4, GAZ Tiger, UAZ Hunter, UAZ Patriot, late Kamaz models, etc), more import cars (Hummer H1, H2, H3, Ford Ranger, Chevy Avalanche, Trailblazer, Dodge Ram, Mitsubishi L200, VW Touareg, etc), modern equipment (GPS), advanced tuning (engine uprades, weight reduction, winches, etc.)
That's the part which the most players will be looking forward to reach. ;)

And some DLC packs with other world locations and more vehicles. I'd like to get stuck on a Humvee or M35 Deuce and a half in some American mud. :)

EDIT: T-40 tractor mod.

The download link is under the video on Youtube.

Project Update #16: Moddable Demo
Looking back at when our Kickstarter page started it is amazing to think how far we have come. We are delighted with the response we have had from everyone and it is great to think that Spintires can now be developed into a fully-fledged PC game with all of the bells and whistles.

A huge thanks to all of you, we know you all have good intentions whether you could afford to pledge or not.

We have #3 days left on the Kickstarter campaign and we would like to offer you a reward if we reach ÂŁ65,000 before it finishes.

Unfortunately(?) we couldn't offer rewards for the ÂŁ30k & ÂŁ40k because the pledges came in so quickly we couldn't possibly keep up, our resources were drained to the maximum and our servers took a massive hit too which you all experienced first hand.

The best solution we could come up with is to offer you the following ultimate reward:

The reward for reaching ÂŁ65,000 will be a complete decode of the “tech-demo” so that everyone can make their own modifications and share them online. It would be great to increase our modding community so that when the full game of Spintires is released, everyone will be ready to jump on it and start making modifications for that version.

With the extra cash, we can expand our asset library and include more vehicles in the full game bringing the total to a hopeful seven vehicles!

Keep on pledging!

I was hoping for more than 7 vehicles to be honest. If ÂŁ65k is reached, I hope they implement a cockpit view.

And I hope it's easy to mod, would like to have a crack at putting a Suzuki LJ80 in the game.

I also find the possible 65k update quite disappointing, but on the other hand this damo is already lots of fun and I'm can't wait for the full release.

Wolfe, you know it's impossible to sink a vehicle in this tech demo, so you could simply go across the lake to reach that edge? (post #62)

The point was to go from the "new" map area to the "old" area through the woods. The water was simply a convenient finish line.

Here's a video of me having fun in the modded version of UAZ (UAZ Trial).

If you want to try this or any other available mods, have a look at the links in the video's description.

It's been recently announced in the latest KickStarter update from the developers, that if they achieve the goal of ÂŁ65k, the demo is going to be completely decrypted and we can expect even more awesome mods!

So... I just came across this demo and I am in LOVE! Even on my mid-range, 3 yr old laptop I can still tell they put a great amount of detail into this thing. I'm about to pledge for this one.

I just have one question though: none of the screenshots I'm taking show up! When I'm in the game, I hit the print screen button (Windows 7) but when I go to paste it into paint to save it all I see is a black screen. Is there some in-game setting for that or am I just an idiot?

Spin Tires automatically saves screenshots to C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\SpinTires\Shots when you hit [Prt Scr].

I find it much more convenient to use Fraps (or any other screenshot capturing software for that matter), anyway.

I hope they are going to add other terrain types.
Currently sand is just yellow mud, so I hope they get around to fixing that.

Maybe, maybe not. Bare in mind they are just a 3 person indie developer team, so the possibilities are quite limited, unless we'd wait a few years for the full version.

Yea, didn't know how big the team actually was, but couldn't be big for a ÂŁ40k budget, which is nothing for a game budget.

I do hope I can find the time to model a vehicle on my own. I haven't done much 3d modelling yet.

Thanks! I'm not too sure if I have the computing power to run a game and Fraps, but I'll give that a shot soon enough.

I've tried that T-40 tractor. It turned out fun. :)

The model is definetly converted from S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I recall seeing it being converted to GTA: San Andreas as well. Unfortunately, the front suspension doesn't work visually (we can't see the suspension parts moving). The front wheels are taken from UAZ.

This tractor is RWD, and turning the AWD mode on doesn't have an effect.
Going through these cement obstacles is pretty hard even with locked diff.
But it goes through mud very well, thanks to big driving wheels.

And that's what happened when I turned the park brake on while reversing:

Ouch! This reminds me of the episode from the Cars film. :D

It's a mod(ification). Others include Trial UAZ, KrAZ and KAMAZ. For mods check this video and its description:
