Why will there never be any themes? Having just a thread to put a weekly shot won't change what I photograph, but if I have an objective, it then makes me look for things I wouldn't have otherwise snapped.

And does the picture have to have been taken within the week's timeframe? I've got thousands of photos that can now be good for thousands of competitions... This would require very little effort on the part of the photographer, especially without a theme.

Like I said I rather not have any themes.

About the time frame question: I do not mind when you took the shot.

Not only that. Having theme and it being chosen by the last week winner, gives more of a prize to the person who wins, and encourage that person to win and to try harder, since, theme choosing can be one of the reasons of wanting to win. Of course, the themes HAVE TO BE very open and not restrict, has it can kill the competition. It’s all a balance, themes help giving interest to the competition, but has well (restrict and difficult themes) can kill the competition. I have that experience from hosting many GT4 Photomode Competitions, and there isn’t much of a difference. 👍

Also, some banners would be cool as well has resizing the pictures :P (but that is just me picking on you) and that poll issue.

After that your competition will be perfect, and please don’t see this comment has an harsh comment, my intention is not to pull you down. It’s more like an advice comment on how to improve even more this great competition.;)
(A pity that I don’t have a decent camera to take some shots to this competition).

Sounds like F1 is the way to go.

Finally got myself a camera awhile ago, have wanted one for a long time. So I will be able to enter this, though I don't have such an impressive collection of car pictures as some of you have. :)

Of course you can Adam.

Thanks, that makes it a bit easier for me. Even though I have been to a Porsche dealer recently but I'm waiting for him to contact me of if he wants to see the photos or anything like that. :)

Cheers

Then you will always see the same photographs. I think this is stupid and I'd rather not participate if it's going to be like that.

I will not allow people to post the same photograph twice at all.

I will not allow people to post the same photograph twice at all.

You missed the point. People will just be digging through their archives for a photo. If you set a time frame, we'll see new shots.

These are UCP's set rules.
• The deadline is Saturday 11:59PM
• The photograph can contain only automotive images (with no adulterous material)
• The proposed picture must be your own and not found on the net.
• The photograph must be attached using the UCP system. Any picture not attached using the UCP system will not be in the voting thread.
• Your image may be up to 800 pixels wide or tall.
• Photograph may contain post-processing editing
• It is preferred that you state enhancements made, but not necessary.
• The photograph must be taken no earlier than 3 months before start date
• Each photographer cannot vote for himself, they must vote for the others.
• Any users who enter and vote for themselves automatically receive a 2 week penalty from the competition and all votes previously given to his/her photo are removed.
• The entry must contain the following information in the same order :

User name
Subject matter/photo title
Date taken
Camera Type | additional information you feel important

It usually gives people a week or so. It makes it tough on some of us, but this competition is currently in its 3rd or so year of running.

I'm also pretty against counting models of cars as car photography. Aside from composition, there's hardly any similarities between shooting a model and an actual car. The real thing is so much more complex, technical and variable than the miniature versions.

I go out on my bike to shoot all of my cars, so you can do the same to get some good shots. If you live in a rural village with no cars at all, then get creative with what you've got.

I'm ok with no themes for a little while, but no offense to anyone partaking or organizing, as long as it is no limit on when the photo was taken and tolerates models, count me out...

then why dont we run a themed competition? after all, remember, we have a PHOTO SUBFORUM!! lets make it all it can be... I'd tell you I would run it but thurth is, some times I may not have time at all, so if anyone wants to open one up, count me in.

Reventon, what is UCP? it sounds good.

In Automotive Photo (thanks ExigeRacer) they also have a monthly comp, but it has a theme and surely, there are some killer shots there.

If another competition (theme one) is to be open, it shouldn’t be an automotive one. It should be a general photography competition, where it can have more variety of themes.

If it’s of everyone interest I can create one. I’ll create a thread for this discussion, now (and please) let’s make this competition on topic, and put here what it asks: Entries.

In my view it is a shame some people, will not put a bit of trust in how the rules in this competition are more different then the other competitions on GTPlanet.

Note about the rules: The rules I use in here, follow the guide lines of a Automotive Photography Compeition on Apex Automotive. Which has been running for a long time with no problems at all.

Question to the worried people - Would you lot change your mind about this competition, if I added the following rule to the current rules:

Shots being entered must have been taken between 2007 - Current Year.

UCP is UltimateCarPage. You should sign up Cano. I think you'd stand a pretty good chance. I've won once with my MC12 reflections shot, but it's pretty tough.

Thing is there is my probelm, I live in the middle of nowhere where people can't seem to afford to buy and good cars around here. Sure, if you want pictures of planes then I can get a picture of some of the most famous british war fighters from WWII and from the modern age tonight if you wanted. As for cars, we have to travel miles and miles to get them, model cars are the nearest thing we can get. Sure I go to some motoring events each year but I'm not that good of a photographer to make a art out of a cramped room with millions of pounds worth of cars in.

Also, although I agree real cars are harder to find decent angles with model car shooting is quite difficult too (Not the DOF thats easy) but the cars have less detail in them compared to the real car meaning you have to search the car and select a redeeming feature which could be seen on the real thing. So with a model car the aim is to make the picture look as realistic as possible and without exposing its a model car. Also if you take into account with a real car you can quite easily change the elevation of the camera then model car shooting is difficult, most the time when your camera is on the floor its height is roughly the same as the actual car so your restricted to what you can actually do. So I wouldn't say its all that easy...

It's not at all the same thing, one is different from the other in its own regards. I'm sorry, but if the competition is automotive photography, I don't see why models should be allowed. It's just not photographing the same thing, stylistically or technically.

And in regards to you living in the middle of nowhere, well the harsh truth is that it is just something that you'll have to deal with. I'm sure there are a lot of Kenyans who'd love to be on an ice hockey team. On the other hand, there also was a Jamaican bobsled team (and now a dogsled team I hear?).

I never said it was the same thing, I was saying that they are both difficult in their own rights. Anyway, the model cars are automotive just like any other real car in this thread. The name implies automobile or motor car both of which are what those model cars are.

In regards to your comment about me living in the middle of nowhere, I do put up with it but I was saying that it is hard to find any good cars around here. If you want pictures of good cars but not model cars from Lincolnshire, the most boringest place on the planet then thats silly. Its not as easy for people in other countries than it is for you for us to nip out and find a good car, just because it doesn't take you long to find one doesn't mean its that easy for anyone else.

Anyway, I'm going to stop arguing with you now. I don't want to build up tensions any more. I'd prefer to be friends with a excellent photographer such as your self than to form a enemy like status. So I'd like to apologise, I know its both of our opinions but even still sorry for clogging up this thread with all my model car nusiances.

**** it, I'm down.
