why waste the money
Thought I'dd move thid question out of the regerisrty thread and ask if you left foot brake or not.I do as my background in racing started in karts and it is just natural for me.

Yes... been LFBing in road cars and karts for over 20 years and for me it's completely natural.

Been left foot braking since I got my DFP a few years ago. I used my right foot once, and it felt very unnatural. I didn't have to train myself to do it, if just felt right to LFB.

It's weird, in my car, I was in such a habit of LFB'ing with the game that I did it in the car and it felt very unnatural. With my Playseat/G25 I LFB, in the real car I RFB ;)

Hi,
Even thought my every day ride has a clutch, when it comes to GT5P gaming it’s the left foot on the brakes. On some few occasions and cars, the brakes become handy for “steering mistakes” corrections while maintaining gas unchanged. But while I mostly like and drive RWD, I also like the front train to be under control of the steering wheel rather than the pedals. So I have to admit that this GTLM ( the car that actually started this discussion if I’m not mistaken ) is a bit of a too “Raw Power” for me.

Yup - I do too. It's a good tool to have in the box.
Don't tend to do much of it in the road car (diesel), only to keep the turbo spinning on slower bends. Also I have to be careful at the moment because I have 9 points on the licence :nervous:

More relevant when motorcycling though - not to slow down with, but more a handling/balance/stability thing.

Technical point - on the bike it's still right foot braking for obvious reasons, unless you ride facing backwards

Yes I left foot brake whenever I can, even when I use the G25 with the clutch enabled, I will right foot brake on sections that require the use of clutch and switch to left foor brake on sections that don't require the clutch.

I do left foot brake quite a lot in real life too when I am pushing it. (manual or auto)

Left foot braking driving a real car is a BIG NO NO for me I would probably die.

Left foot braking racing in GT5P definately.

Do you mean just using your left foot or actual LFB techniqe?? I used LFB sice Richard burn rally (‹--must try).

Having tried using my left foot now, it's much harder to guage braking pressure I think with the left foot- I'm definitely going to try and limit left foot braking to MR cars only.

I'm presuming Left Foot Braking is where you use your right foot for the accelerator, and left foot on the brake pedal and that's where they stay? If so, then that's what I do, it feels more natural for me and it's easier to regulate things than having to switch your right foot from pedal to pedal. I tried using just my right foot once and the sudden changes in deceleration and braking and then accelerating again, as opposed to a gradual flow between the two pedals, caused me to oversteer and spin off.

No, I brake with the right foot and I thought everyone did.. How could it possibly be a good thing to brake with the left foot!? You shift down without using the clutch or something? And have you ever needed to brake and accelerate at the same time!? I'm confused! :scared:

EDIT: Please show me a video of someone who brakes with the left foot..

EDIT 2: Found a video of McRae braking with left foot, but it looks strange.

EDIT 3: I realised I use it sometimes. When I do a burnout.

Forgot to mention, I use a DFP and there's no clutch on that.

Yes i left foot brake exclusively on GT5.. less so in a normal car as i need to use the left foot for the clutch. I find a car like a GTLM takes kindly to using the brake to balance the accelerator through the corners, much like on a bike... as Desmo said..

Generally use sequential shifter mode (and/or paddles) so no need to engage the clutch.

As for braking at the same time, this can help you correct understeer, by putting more car’s weight on the front, not necessarily slowing you down.

On the other hand some cars will not allow you to fully liftoff the gas, unless you really enjoy massive oversteer...

And racer that do use left foot, Kart racing comes to mind.

My 2 cents.

LFB techniqe is when you brake while throttle, whery usefull in high speed brake (to maintain control) and to get that good turn in. take away LFB from me and you take away seconds from my lap!

I use both feet.

Use my right for braking when I have to down shift - clutch enabled.

Otherwise is left foot all the way.

I never used my right foot for braking in a computer game until the G25 was released.

Right Foot, because of HEAL and toe technique ;)

By the way on my AUTOMATIC car, Right foot is for Gas and brake, I laugh if somone uses Both for Automatics as well.. in street conditions.
But Sometimes I do use the Brake and Throttle If I am not using Clutch in games.
Yeah It does Help to brake in High Speed Turns a bit.
But I voted "No" since I am more of right footer.

I can't believe there are so many people using LFB! Years of RL car driving make this a no-no for me - maybe that's why I'm so slow in GT5P... :indiff:

i voted no, but then realized i do, but in rare occasions. sometimes through the esses at suz ill tap the brakes with my left foot. never for major slowing though.

What he said:tup: ....besides LFB is mainly used in rallying most effectivly, for the rest of the time its used but lazy taxi drivers:yuck: You can never tell if theyre bracking as they rest there foot on the brake pedal:dunce:

don't you screw up your axel, motor, breaks if you're still applying torque to the car "while" braking ?

dunno if it's because I'm old school and started racing in a real car as opposed to cart or DFP/GT.

naturally left foot is always for cluch and right foot is for gas and break...

You know that LFB is a well used racing techniqe in RL? you even see F1 drivers do it...

+1, except replace G25 with DFP in my case.

LFB in game (DFP/playseat)
RFB in my car (WRX, manual)
