I was planning to wait until February to start looking for a new truck. My S10 has seen much better days and I’ve growing tired of very large repair bills. Some of the big items from the last year have been new water pumps and intake gaskets to new ball joints on the front end. I currently had a list growing of finding out why my air conditioner stopped working. My 4wd high doesn’t engage anymore. My intermittent wipers are true to the name because they intermittently work! All of those things didn’t determine that the truck start everyday but I know needed the attention eventually.

All of that brings me to yesterday morning. The day starts of as usual except for when I turn the key on the dirty old S10. It cranks over fine but just wont fire up. HUMMMM….That’s not good. Generally when I turn the key on I hear the electronic fuel pump kick on for a few seconds, not today. Please don’t let it be that!!! So I try to pop the hood…oh yeah…that is kinda broke too and it’s a real pain in the ass to get my hood open. So about 20 minutes later I get the hood open and take a look at the fuse box to see if the pump is getting power. You know its just one of those days when as soon as I unplug the fuse I drop it down into the engine compartment. GRRRR…I hate when one is trying to fix a problem and these little other things pop up like trying to find a fuse down in the fender well. So I find it with a light but can’t reach it because it’s in such a small place. Enter a call to girl friend with really skinny arms. While waiting for her to arrive I place a call into the shop to ask how much they would charge to replace the pump. A $1000 later I’m beginning to see that with all the other things I need to get fixed that this truck is turning in to an unreliable money pit.

Lady friend shows up and fuse is retrieved and I come up with the idea that maybe I just go look for that new truck a few months early. Off we head to the dealerships to see whats out there. I kinda figured that with all the trouble the car makers are in I could find a pretty good deal. Such was the case with my new baby below. It’s a 2008 Dodge Ram and yeah…It’s got a HEMI…

It was marked down 12g from the MSRP which made it a smoking deal in my eyes. Some extra add ons are the 20” wheels and tires, a three inch body lift, running boards, 7 speaker infinity stereo system. 1 year free satellite radio, power everything pretty much. And no worries on the fuel economy because this V8 is rated to get the same mileage that my old V6 got at about 18mpg.

They were also going to give me next to nothing for my S10 so I just kept it and I’ll fix it to be a beater truck on those crappy muddy days on the drive in to work. Yes I still work off of a dirt road out in the country. It was really tough to make the leap and drop the coin but I really needed something and I figure if I only buy a truck every ten years then I can let myself splurge when I do.

Very nice.
Is it 4WD? I didn't see a transfer case lever...
Dodge doesn't impress me with their cars.
The Trucks are a different story alltogether.

Yes, it's a 4wd. It's all push button now with no of the levers or locking hubs of the old days.

Wow. Awesome man. Plenty of room in the back for a bike or two?

With the right ramp, you bet. It will be a challange to get my R1 up into the back of this thing if on a flat surface.

Nice! For some reason I've always liked the looks of the dodge trucks, and this is no exception!

Chris.

Niiiiiiiiice!

Now, get rid of the bug guard thing, but paint the grille black. 👍

Gotta love that Hemi's exhaust note. You can improve that too. ;)

Then you bought a weak sauce truck... :D :scared:

Naw. Chrysler is in worse shape.

Cerberus has the funds to save Chrysler itself. But they're gonna ride on the bandwagon while the other companies are.

Nice truck!

Now, I'll give you a week to take a hairdryer, plastic scraper, and some Goo Gone out there and peel that horrendous dealer sticker off the tailgate. Dealer stickers are the anti-Christ.

Looks brilliant; dare I say one of the best Rams I've seen in a long time. Too bad something like that would cost atleast 100k here. :(

Looks like someone rewarded themselves for coming in second in the fantasy league.

👍

Or is it the recently found freedom? :sly:

All your new neighbors are going to think you are some kind of big spender with you getting a new house and truck all close together.

That's a sweet truck! I've always liked Rams, especially when they're yellow. The wheels and tinted headlight covers make it look especially mean!

I gotta agree with that. I also hate those license plate brackets dealers stick on vehicles. I have found that if you take a sponge and some warm, soapy water and give the offending label a good scrub without drying and then take a hairdryer to it it usually peels right off. Get that label good and warm before peeling it.
