165hp...

I would go for the engine if the MR2 doesnt have an engine already, if it does than get the tv.

As a guy with an AW11 running a Silvertop, and a friend with a Blacktop, they are a blast. But things never go smoothly with these it seems like. If you can get it with the ECU and MAF, go for it. The wiring is the biggest pain, but revving the hell out of your car is great fun, and they becoming decently quick (I was doing high 13's with a stock 20valve Silvertop).

What year of MR2 are you driving?

You're telling me they used 4 more intake valves and only gained 5 horsepower and 9 pound-feet of torque from it? I can change my air filter and gain that in the Si! You Toyota guys confuse me. I say buy the TV.

Azuremen, stop egging him on. You know you want that TV too!

86, and it's currently up on blocks.

Hmm... an '86. Make sure to get the C52 transmission and brakes from an '87 at least, not sure how familar you are with all the revisions that happened between the '86 and '87 model years.

And Keef is just trolling.

What TV have you got now? If it's anything remotely decent, buy the engine. You've got an MR2, I'm not sure why you're even asking this question.

I always thought MR2 buyers were unlrelenting petrolheads.

The obvious choice is the 4ag! What would you rather do? Sit at home on the couch watching tv? Or working on and driving the MR2 with that 4ag? I know what I'd pick.

I would be replacing the c50 with the c56 that came with the blacktop, I believe it has 3rd and 4th gear ratios that are better suited for the blacktop. And yea I know about all the revisions, actually, I would really like to have a '85 to do the swap into, i've read a couple places that they are the lightest of all the mk1's. It's also the only year that came with the rear swaybar, aside from the sc models. And the brakes can be easily upgraded.

27 inch RCA, just your regular television. As far as the motor I currently have it's just your regular 4a-ge, but this one is locked up...I know which one I want more, the engine, but that would cost more and more in the long run. We'll see, i'm still debating with myself.

that's terrible...

No, he's just fishing.

Go for the engine. It is a lot more interesting than the T.V. and has a lot more benefits. Like not having a mass debate with himself.

Get the engine. Then your car will be so cool, you'll pull a really neat babe who'll buy you the TV you want.

Girls love guys with nice cars. :D

You trying to hard...

Or rather he'd just be so busy with her he wouldn't need the TV :sly:

As bad-ass as the blacktop is... I'd have to say, go with the TV.

Nah... who'm I kidding? Get the engine. And after a month, once you're sure that there's nothing wrong with the new motor, sell your stocker to put a down-payment on a new TV. :D

*cough*

High 13 is not "decently quick", it's 🤬 fast...like 300+ hp fast....

Depends on how much weight you have to lug around. And with an old MR2, there really isn't all that much weight to begin with... I've seen Civic's do high 13s without a turbo... just some good lightening, good grip and lots of revs on the clutch-dump.

Like always my plans have changed but this time I think it's for the better. My cousin and I picked up this nice little 2 the other weekend. His plans are to drive it while we replace the engine in his AE86, then I will take the car off his hands just in time for summer. The best thing about it is that it's exactly what I, a silver/gray 85, black spoiler(not pictured) no ground effects...and a good running Blacktop. The swap is very clean, pretty much a completely reworked suspension, and there is very very little rust on the car, none of which is on the rear fenders. Here are a couple pictures and a link to the page.

Talk about a crazy drive gettin the car back, ran into about a 100 miles of black ice and snow. Not to mention nearly that whole stretch was curves and hills. He was in the mr2 and I was in the 86 with crap ass wipers and no windshield wiper fluid. We managed to make it back safe with no problems and went playing around in the All-trac before i had to drive another 100 miles home.

Oh snap. Nice find there. Bummer on the sun roof though.

I never was particularly found of the '85 models, but to each their own. Swap does look very clean... far cleaner than my swap, that is for sure. Should be a blast, but please replace the OEM triangle wheels... I don't know who came up with those things.

On the All-trac, what year, what model?

Yea I would prefer a hardtop, oh well. What don't you like about the '85 models, just curious. As far as the all-trac it's just a '88 camry. Don't let it being a camry fool you though, it's a freakin beast in the snow and it's so controllable. We just got 8 inches of snow so i've been having a blast, even pulled my friend's mazda millenia up a pretty steep hill to my apt, no problems at all. Only gripe about the car is it needs a little more power, I would settle for a 3s-ge, especially a beams :)

Oh and as far as the wheels go, should be replacing them with some miata wheels we have laying around, may spray them black, who know. This style
