Well, I can finally type with two hands, I have been hunt and peck with just my right hand for almost two weeks now.
Three weeks ago, I was at a buddies bachelor party and was tubing behind a boat with two other guys on a three man tube. I was on the outside of the turn and was impressed with how long I was holding the tube upright until I could hold on no long - *CRASH*. While I was bobbing in the water, my left arm really hurt but the cold water felt good on it. I got back on the tube for round two and couldn't even hold on and crashed quickly. For the next three days I kept my arm in my sweat shirt pocket for a make-shift sling. A week went by with some discomfort but nothing serious, although I did notice some "extra" ligament type of material when I felt the inside pocket of my elbow, just below the bicep. After being a week off from working out, I went to the gym and benched 315 for 4 reps with little pain with the thought that I must have just sprained my left arm just 5 days before. Went into the gym on Tuesday and couldn't even curl a 20lb dumb bell. That afternoon, my wife made me make an appointment to get a MRI done on it. Wednesday afternoon the doctor explained that the squiggly line he was showing should actually be straight and that the end that wasn't connected should have been connected 2cm north west.
I had two choice, leave it be and loose 40-60% of my strength or go under the knife to reattached the lower bicep tendon. I opted for surgery. The pictures below are from last Friday, 8 days after the surgery.
The doc said the surgery went well and the repair went good. He expect a full recovery with being able to do all the things I did before. If anything, he said my right arm will blow out before my left will again.
I will be in the Stryper cast for 3 weeks then I will be working on arm mobility with limited range of motion which will continue for another 5 months of physical therapy.
So....the moral of the story is LET GO OF THE DAMN TUBE SOONER!
Or how about this truth I realized, "When your grip strength is stronger than your tensile strength, it time to put the damn weight down and hit the treadmill".
