Hey Guys and Gals,
Managed to get a bit of face time with GT academy winner (and the worlds best Gran Turismo driver) Lucas Ordonez and will be interviewing him on his first season as a fully fledged racing driver. Just wondering if anyone out there had any Gran Turismo related questions they would like answered such as "his quickest lap time around Laguna Seca" or "favourite car on the game?" Remember to post your name so you get props when i ask him! Video will be posted here when its done

Cheers
Calvin

Here are my question's:

"Did playing GT really help (throughout the season)? Did the game give you the fundamentals to start as a Race Car Driver?"

Hi Calvin, congrats on scoring the interview, and thanks for getting input from GTPlanet! What's the deadline on these questions? I'd definitely like to post this up on the news blog - I'm also going to move your thread over to the GT5 Prologue forum, since that's the game which got him into GT Academy in the first place. :)

Does he still use GT to prepare real races he will compete in?
Does he give feedback to Poyphony being expert in both worlds?
Which one does he prefer to drive in, virtual (no G's) or real (with the risk to kill yourself in a crash) world?
Where is the practice most boring, in virtual (just by yourself working) or real (waiting for technicians to tweak the car) world?

Cheers for the support Jordan, seeing him on Monday so hopefully will get some more questions to ask before then. Thanks so far for all the good questions, i will get him to answer these! :-)

How far would Lucas say his Gran Turismo 'career' impacted upon his racing career so far? For example in overtaking or breaking points.

I guess the burning question is: How real GT5 physics actually are?

Anything related to GT5 physics and how they compare to real life is what I would like to see in the interview :)

what are hardest things to adapt to from a virtual game to relality?

what aspects did gran turismo accurately respresent?

what do the other race drivers think of you coming from a video game as opposed to starting at go karts and working their way up to more powerful cars?

Do you usually play GT with a wheel or dualshock? Manual or auto? Traction control on/off?

aerodynamics, what are they like at racing car speeds and compared to GT? what about this "clean air" formula 1 commentators keep talking about, how much does it really effect the car?

How much grip do you lose driving on the dirty side of the track, what does it feel like?

were you caught out by anything during your first race(s) by un-clean air, the dirty side of the track, bumpy roads or anything like this?

do you having bad racing habits? what do you need to work on the most to be a better driver?

do you have plans to race in another series? what series would you most like to race in?

What is your first thought before every race?

What do you think of GT5? are you excited?

Are you a member of GTplanet.net?

Does your hobby help your career? Is there other players that can beat you online?

Can you actually beat Dan (Hollo1) in the time trials using the same conditions as him (no clutch that I'm aware)?

I ask because that competition was European only, and from what I can tell the 2 fastest drivers I've ever seen online are Dan and some Japanese dude I can't remember.:sly:

Is there at all a chance of an online race? A TT competition with the 15 winners given the date, combo and time?

or PSN? (lol, worth a try)

What is the secret to a good lap(and nailing the racing line), in GT and real life. And how different are both to each other. In GT5P, I have a habit of being a little too aggressive and get too ahead of myself. Still learning to relax into it more.....Cheers....:)...

PC Simulations like iRacing.com have also taken their top racer and put them into a real life race car, but with worse results, he was last or second to last and his real best lap was 6 seconds slower then his sim lap. They claim to have a better simulation then Gran Turismo but when transferred into real life the GT Academy winner did better. How would you explain this?

There are several reasons.

First, GT Academy wasn't intended to find the fastest sim racer and put them in a car. Once they got to Silverstone, they disqualified candidates based on conditioning or eyesight. They gave them instruction in real cars and evaluated their performance on track. Lucas and Lars may not have been the fastest sim racers in the group, but they showed the most potential as a racing drivers.

Next, they went through a six month training period where they participated in several races so that they could earn their international racing license. This was required to be eligible to participate in the Dubai endurance race.

Finally, of the two qualifiers, only Lucas participated in the Dubai race, as Lars fell ill and missed qualifying. Ultimately, only Lucas continued to race with the team, and even then, the team started out slowly and only found success toward the end of the season.

Sim racing may be an interesting tool to find good potential, but there's much more that goes into racing at the highest levels.

Thanks for the reply, good info here. 👍

i think most of my questions will be asked so i'm looking forward to the interview

When time trialing on GT5 Prologue i feel like the best times are too perfect, in a sense that, it's almost the fastest you can go with the limits of the game.

What i mean, is, laps are too clean, too agressive taking lines that in real life drivers wouldn't want to take because the risk is too much.

Do you feel this too? That compared to real life the top times on the Prologue leaderboards are "too clean"?

If you could improve one aspect of the physics engine, what would it be?

Do you have acess to GT5? Are they asking you for imput and advices on how to calibrate the game? (if they are not, they are been silly, because we need a fast driver giving them some god input)

Anyway, congrats on your carrear. You are living the dream most of us have:tup:

* Since getting behind the wheel of a real race car, what's been your biggest obstacle to overcome from race to race?

* What type of work-out routine are you currently following in order for your body to hold up to the rigors of racing from race to race?

* Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years, should you continue to experience success as a real race car driver? (FIA GT, Porsche Cup, DTM, etc,. etc.)

* If you lived alone on an island and you could transplant any race track to that island, which one would you select...and what one car would you want to use?

What was your involvement in the GT community before getting the opportunity to race for real?

Are you still a member in any GT forums?

Do you plan on racing online with GT and/or participating in any future GT events?

I guess alot has been said how Lucas came from a GT background. But how involved was he with GT, and apart from perhaps racing the game at home, was he involved in any way with the wider GT community.

Is it accurate to say that this is a story of a 'GT fan come good in real racing' or just a guy who played occasionally with GT before getting the opportunity to race for real.
