Thanks Nenad.

The first shot in the poll, is an excellent shot with very good clarity. Unfortunately it does not conform to the theme. The Bentley and Audi are not even close to the same (other than both being race cars.

I voted for the Supra's at the finish-line.

Actually they are very close to the same. The Speed 8 is a closed-cockpit version of the R8. Whether that meets MinoltaMan's requirements, only he can say, but I'm glad it made it into the poll as there was some similar discussion in the pre-poll entry thread, and I'm going to vote for it.

Wait...whhhhaaaaat? They are completely different cars, different makers, years, and everything.

Actually he's right, the Speed 8 was based upon the R8's chassis.

Edit: Slightly mis-informed: Based upon the R8C which was abandoned for the R8. They shared Audi's 3.6 engine block, but Bently modified it to displace 4.0 Litres.

Wikipedia
The Bentley Speed 8 (developed from the Bentley EXP Speed 8) was a Le Mans Prototype race car that was designed by Peter Elleray, to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. EXP Speed 8 debuted in 2001, the Speed 8 car finally winning in 2003. It has a strong resemblance to and shares some technology with the Audi R8C, which had raced only once before Audi dropped the project to focus on the later dominant Audi R8. The EXP Speed 8 marked Bentley's return to racing after a 73-year absence.

[edit] Development
All design, development and manufacturing for the Bentley was done by the English outfit, Racing Technology Norfolk (RTN), located in Norfolk, United Kingdom. Chief designer was Peter Elleray.

The engine from the Audi R8, a 3.6 litre turbocharged V8, was used as the initial powerplant in 2001. The six-speed gearbox was also not the typical Ricardo unit from the R8, but instead a custom unit developed by Xtrac. Bentley also chose to run on Dunlop tyres instead of the Michelins used by Audi.

Cheers,

Interesting, thanks for the edification Jetboy!

I assumed since it made it into the poll that all was good... The second shot with the 2 Supras crossing the finish line was my second choice.

No prob, I personally thought Bently took the existing R8 and modded the chassis to fit. Learn something new... 👍 Still means the Audi R-series chassis has to be one of the best endurance racing chassis in motorsports history...

Cheers,
Jetboy

Just thought I'd add that the reason Audi and Bentley were amicably cooperating to the point of sharing designs is that they're both owned by Volkswagen Group.

So is there a ruling on the validity of the 1st shot?
The theme calls for the same car "Two of a kind", not "Two of a kind-ish"
I had enough problem voting for the Supras, being different model years ('00 & '01), but at least it's the same model.
The Audi & Bentley are different in many ways, the Bentley is a UK car, a 2003 model, has a closed-cockpit, and is smaller in every dimension. The Audi is a GER car, a 2001 model, has an open-cockpit, and is larger in every dimension. Also, who ran the racing teams is irrelevent. The two are not the same, they even have different transmissions too.

Following the logic presented (earlier), then a '05 Ford GT could have been shot next to a '02 Jaguar XKR, and it would be valid, after all the had the same parent company (Ford pre-2008). I don't think the theme chooser wanted anything other than the SAME cars in the shot.

Well DOH, I fail at reading. I re-read MinoltaMan post saying that the photo is invalid (I thought it said valid when making the poll). So yes, the first one is and was DQ'd right from the start:

Yeah, GrumpE got it right. I want the cars to look basically the same. So the two current entries are invalid.

Great entry though GT Pro.

So how do we handle this?? Just drop the 10 votes (40% of the voters), or try to find everyone who voted for the shot and find their 2nd choice, or Re-Poll (though may be too time consuming).

The following are the displaced Voters:
  • Codename L
  • franz
  • imtheleprechaun - already stated the 2nd shot is his 2nd Choice. (Supras)
  • jinjinweiwei
  • martialstax
  • RallyMK1
  • raz_10
  • speedemon08
  • TheCracker
  • Turbo_G54B

For the record that was a GREAT shot, unfortunately he got caught on a technicality, but he did have 11 days to change it.

So.... any news? Did GrumpEone win, is it going to be a tie-braker since both our shots technically have 6 votes, or are we going to get the displaced voters to re-vote?

I'll take the win, but I have no objection to a tie-break. LancerE does have a valid point, but I guess the final decision here goes to the host.
