Hi there, is anyone interested in starting an online league specifically for G25 / G27 users when GT5 is finally released? I would love to be able to race against people who don't enjoy crashing into me all the time and taking shortcuts.

We could do qualifying and race events with same model cars or same class divisions or whatever... the possibilities are endless! Personally I'd love to be really padantic and have teams of two drivers with the same cars and tune cars with tyre and driving aid restrictions and all that stuff.

There would of course be a rule of honour regarding the use of the clutch pedal and the H-shifter! Anyway anyone interested apply here! \/ \/
 
Sure, if it's going to work properly (how could you be sure that 'members' only use these two wheel?).
I have a G25, and I like the idea of all driving with the H-shifter and clutch in the cars which are supposed to have it 👍, but it might be a bit early to start this (we don't even know when the game will be released)...

If we get private rooms, why the hell does restrictions need to be placed of a wheel being used?

I'm a pad user, and I don't enjoy crashing into you. I'm sure there's many like minded DF, DFGT users and others too.

Perhaps on the basis of it being sort of like an owners club, but it shouldn't be bacause everyone else is a punter.

Do you mean that every controller user crashes into you? What about Fanatec users? What about users of other wheels? And not to mention the fact we have no idea if controller type will be a restrictive option in setting up an online race.

I don't think you've thought this through...

okay, i didn't mean to upset anyone. i wasnt suggesting that pad users crash into people all the time, the two sentences were supposed to be unrelated.

anyway, if you have a H-shifter and a clutch you will definately be producing different lap times then with a pad. when you lose the back end etc, it's a lot harder to correct than a simple flick of the stick, and when you end up in the graveltrap it takes about twice as long to get back on the track.

If you want clean racing, you should head over to the race events. There is where we usually organise things and all races are expected to follow OLR rules.

Also, there are plenty of fast people who use the DFGT and the 6axis controller. Players like Mad94d and mark_webber are faster than 99.99% of G25 users. On top of that, online racing is different to time trials. I am a member of Trans Tasman Racing, where some of the fastest racers in Australia and New Zealand come to race outside of GTP (indeed, some of the members went to both the Australian and New Zealand heats of the GT Acadamy this year, with one even winning the New Zealand one), and while they could all thrash me in the time trials, racing is another ball game. With racecraft, added pressure, different lines and drafting, so in the end, as long as one is skilled, they can race 99.99999% as fast no matter if they are using a wheel or a pad. Not to blow my own trumpet, but I can usually hold my own with the TTR guys, if I'm on the ball.

(oh - and you may not be able to drift/hold/catch a slide with a controller, but others can ;))

If you want to be totally sure you get the fastest of the fastest racers, look out for joint races with other internet forums (I know GTHQ is pretty full on when we race - yet I still got 2nd and 3rd when I last met them, and all of them had wheels), or if you want to set up a race, perhaps try restricting it to the top divisions on the GTP registry?

Is it time to take up the online events with shifters!

I suggest one of the 550 RWD experts on Suzuka: NSX, RX-8, F512BB

Using the shifter strongly encouraged on alternative times like:

NSX could be 13 : 33 : 53 (to avoid the normal NSX event without shifters)

Maybe you should refine your description to those who have a clutch.....I'd sure like to use mine in these races....
 
I'm ready to drive.

I Just got a G27. My G25 GT Driving Force (GTDF) is now a backup.

I hope the GT5 retail version fully supports the G27 button layout (with graphical button layout like the G25 GT Driving Force and older wheels are in the Logitech options menu), clutch, and six speed shifter in the options menu.

I want the cars to react realistically to how the driver depresses and releases the clutch to attempt upshift/downshift rev matching (unless driving a 370Z - I love that syncro rev match system).

Below is the G27 limited compatibility with GT5P that I have observed over 3 hours of use:

Wheel:

- Force feed back = Very good
- Paddle Shifters = Not mapped (not sure why)
- Red Buttons:
Left three = All mapped as rear view
Right three = Not mapped
- Rev lights = Do not register

Shifter:

- Four black buttons (work similar to the PS3 Dual shock when selecting, canceling, etc.)
While driving:
top = neutral [cycles clutch use for the G27]
right = E-brake
bottom = Not mapped
left = Not mapped
- D-pad (Similar to PS3 when navigating menu) Not mapped for use while driving.
- Gear shifter. (Works well / As expected) 2nd best reason to upgrade from G25 GTDF.
1st-6th = 1st - 6th gear (need paddles, which are not mapped, for higher gears)
Reverse = Reverse
Neutral = Neutral (when clutch toggled for use by top black button on shifter)
- Bottom four red buttons:
Outside Left = Not mapped
Inside Left = View change
Inside Right = pause
Outside Right = Not mapped

Pedals/Clutch:

- Throttle = Very Good
- Brake = Very Good
- Clutch = Good. 1st and best reason to upgrade from G25 GTDF. Clutch even stalls the car if you release too quickly without throttle, but the gear grind sound would be a nice touch if clutch not used.

Biggest Issues:

(Below are G27 issues not currently supported by GT5P, but assumed to be fully supported for the G27 in the retail version of GT5 on November 2nd, 2010)

1. Mapping of all buttons is not available
2. Paddle Shifters not usable/mapped
3. Wheel Rev lights not registering
4. No ability to call up the Cross Media Bar (XMB) with a “PS” type button.

Conclusion:

- The G27 is a great wheel for GT5P. The G27 may well be a superior driving wheel for simulation racing enthusiasts when GT5 releases in November.
- Compared to the G25 GT Driving Force (GTDF), the G27’s button layout, while very providing, is not as conveniently organized as the GTDF. The D-Pad, RA rotary dial, RA +/- selector, and other familiar PS3 buttons are a big advantage for the GTDF
- Compared to the G27, the GTDF lack of a clutch may be the deciding factor for some GT5P & GT5 drivers.
- Unless GT5 allows drivers to map a XMB function to one of the 20 available G27 buttons, drivers will need to have a Dual Shock 3 Controller fully charged or connected via USB to fix this issue.
- The Build Quality and Feel of the G27 matches its $299 retail ($250 online) price tag.

-If you want Logitech’s Full Driving Simulation Quality, then go for the G27. If you want Logitech Driving Convenience, a wheel developed with the help Gran Turismo creator/developer Kazunori Yamauchi and the Polyphony Digital team, then go/stay with the G25 GT Driving Force.
 
I have a question I hope can get answered concerning pedal placement. I was driving the other night and kept hitting my brake and gas at the same time when I would go to hit my brake.

My question is if you have taken the screws out of the pedals to adjust them what pedals have you moved ie. clutch and brake to the left and gas to the right or what else? I have a size 12 foot and I normally wear socks but I have started wearing a pair of rock climbing shoes with a slick sole just because they are a pretty close to a racing shoe imo. Also my pedal pad is flat, should I raise it to where it is at a angle like the play seat or does it really matter? Thanks

Count me in on any league you set up. I need to test my G27 to the full and hate kids constantly crashing into me to get in lead.

Currently in process of restoring my backup data from my old PS3 to my new Slim one when it turns up so will have to start GT5 from scratch. But hey will get some practice doing all the tedious races again I suppose if Polyphony and Sony don't wipe my save game again like they did with the latest UPDATE on Sat night gggrrrrr.

Come on get it right Sony.
 
Hi there. Regardless of wheel/controller. Just be fair to others. accidental accidents are hard to avoid. just dont be a crasher in a race will do adey.
