I did NOT survive the APOCALYPS3 :( possible solutions, similar experiences...

Ok this is not to complain or anything, but as the title says my 2nd PS3 now died and I don't think it's a coincidence, but anywho I thought maybe some people here have similar issues or any solutions?

Actually my PS3 is still working, but only OFFLINE.
I can still sign in, but it will disconnect me from PSN after 5 - 10 minutes, no matter what I do ( playing games, browsing internet, be idle...).
Here's the symptoms:

Sometimes I will see only half of my friendslist, sometimes not even one.
I'm unable to sync trophies.
Account management doesn't work either.
Only half of my messages go thru, if.
However the worst thing is it will log me out after a very short time (around 5 minutes each). :-(
I can only log back in by going either to connection test or make a new connection in connection settings, it's useless tho since it will log me out again after few minutes.

Mostly I get DNS error 80710102 - sometimes followed by 8002AD23 error...
Now I know these are DNS errors, but my internet connection is perfectly fine (on PC) so I don't know much I could do about it.

In the last hour or so I started to get more errors, like:
8071053D
8002A669 (while trying to delete a friend who wasn't on for months)
80028EA6
80710092
80130203

... all followed by the message "You have been signed out of Playstation network".

I called SONY and the guy said he has no clue why this happenns to me, but I should buy a router. While this might be a good suggestion, I don't understand why it worked before then with the PS3 directly connected to the modem.

Last status: when I turn off my PS3it will beep 3 times before it actually shuts down.

As I said, I won't complain, but just simply asking for ideas, similar experiences.

I have cable internet 20mb down, 1 up and yes, I reset my modem and my PS3 like 20 times already.

Here's speedtest from my PC, so you can see my connection is ok.

I didn't have it on again while PSN was down only when it started, but thanks this was a very good idea, I thought of that, but forgot about it again then lol.
I did the file restore now.
Unfortunately it didn't fix it, actually the friend I deleted is now deleted and it didn't peep 3 times when I turned the PS3 off, but I still got signed out several times after very short time, unable to log back in the "normal" way ( Sign in).

It's pretty strange as all those errors seem to be DNS or network related, but I'm unable to find the reason. I even called my ISP and they told me all ports on the modem are open by default with no option to change, so that shouldn't be the issue either.

BTW I wanted to make this thread in PS3 section, maybe a MOD could move it, please?

Thanks and I'll report back, when I bought a router ( which I doubt will help, but who knows...).

There is no PS3 section any more, but I have editted your first post top include a PS3 tag ;)👍 I hope you get the problem fixed. I thought I might have borked mine by trying to play WipEout last night, but it seems to be OK.

Looks like Sony have dropped a dogs dangly thing with this. I'm still incredulous to the fact that something so advanced as the PS3 could fail so spectacularly over something as simple as a date change.

I was listening to Radio 5 Live earlier, and a guy phoned in saying that his PS3 had reset back to factory settings, wiping his downloads, music, photos, and game saves. Safe to say, he was not best pleased.

I powered up my PS3 on Sunday night, and when I got the error, I assumed it was to do with my wireless connection. Instead of trying to sort it out, I opted to watch a DVD instead. I have since powered up my PS3, and it connects to the network, but I do not know exactly what damage has been caused in the process.

@H20HYBRID_GT

Doesn't sound good. Some ideas:

- do file system check and database rebuild (album information etc. might get lost) via recovery menu (if you haven't done already)
- try using your PS3 on another network
- reflash current firmware via recovery menu
- if nothing else helps: completely reset your PS3 via recovery menu - everything will be deleted, so make a backup of important things

Well it isn't this whole date change thing that has messed it up. If you can sign into PSN at all, which you can then it is definitely something else. No idea what, but it sure as hell isn't the clock mess-up.

My best bet would be to try it again tomorrow. I've had similar DNS problems before but it was fine the next day. Try resetting your network connection on your PS3.

OK I've had a similar issue this evening, turned all my kit off and rebooted it (router, modem, PS3) seemed to have sorted it.

I'm sorry about being a total noob here but what exactly is the ApocalyPS3?

All I've heard is that this fad is allowing hackers to get into your PS3 and screw up alot of hardware.

You heard wrong.

The issue was something to do with the internal clock that made the PS3 unale to connect to the PSN.

Thanks. Seems I got really unlucky there.

Some good ideas there, I'm currently restoring from a backup, but it seems even that is dodgy, since I tried yesterday already and it just got stuck after 2 hours with no progressoin for another 1 1/2 hours. :nervous:

Hmm, that reminds me of the conversations I had, when I said it's a leap year/ date glitch and people said no way it's a date glitch...
Seriously there's two options: It's a coincidence, or this whole mess affected my bus-chip or whatever it is more than others (I had the animated zebra theme shown as corrupted data again e.g., after I made a reset from recovery menu!?) and I don't believe in coincidences. :/

Ok, last status: I get so many different error codes, it's almost like it's going thru all of them... I hope I get the backup done this time and if it then still doesn't work I'll try using a router or a different network.

Thanks again for all the suggestions 👍 I'll report back then.

Status - update II: the restore process is still running and at 78% atm... dang this thing is slow.

I could also try to format my original 40 GB HD on my comp and see if that helps, but I dunno if I run into other problems then. :nervous:

..... update III: restore went thru finally ( took 4 1/2 hours... ), it signed me in, I tried playing tekken, but it froze on the update screen for 1.03 update, so I had to restart. Then it went thru database restore automatically and signed me in.
Played Tekken for few minutes, this time it did the 1.03 update without issues. Then I quit the game, did a trophy sync and yes, you guessed it, I got signed out with DNS error 80710102...
I checked internet seetings and I'm actually signed in, it shows IP adress, subnetmask, NAT type (1), etc., it just doesn't connect me to PSN over the Sign in button, as it should.

Soooo, should I go and buy a router and hope that helps somehow or any more ideas? I have no other ideas... other than reformating my old original 40 GB HD and see if that helps...

PS: Almost forgot... the date was set to 2/3 2010 automatically, so it indeed looks like I still have the leapyear bug in there somehow, also dynamic theme was shown as coruppted data (again).
Was it like that for everyone or is it just me?

Well I don't know if that help but the date of my PS3 got changed to 2020 and when I completed the download of the GOW3 demo and tried to install it .It couldn't be installed and it became corrupt. 👎

ok, that doesn't help much other than knowing others have issues too.:P
Sorry to hear that, where you able to install it later anyway?

Current status: I bought a netgear router for 30 bucks and now I am the first time ever on the internet with my PC and my PS3 over the same line. LOL
I really hope I don't get signed out soon YET again, but so far it looks promising, I lost a trophy i got yesterday tho, dunno if it come back but that's not my biggest concers atm.

:scared:

Why would he be having lag?

As long as you don't clog up the line by downloading all your naughty movies at the same time you're gaming online, there will be no problem at all. ;)

Thanks, I'd like to point out that I used to have zero LAG with my old 2MB line, but since I was smart enough to upgrade my connection, I had plenty, router or not. Never change a winning team! :dunce:
Since I still have zero on my PC, I blame PS3 netcode.

Yeap, I didn't notice more LAG than usual, if anything it was even better than the last weeks. 👍

Good luck mate:tup:
Thanks! Still signed into PSN! *fingers crossed* :P

I hope you get your issue fixed.
But I have a suggestion (and it may be silly, as its not based on anything), but have you tried signing in with another PSN account, or created another account? maybe the error is attatched to your PSN account.
As I said that prob got nothing to do with it, but I thought it may be worth a try.

Umm... I usually have 3 computers and 2 PS3s on the same 5mb max connection with no lag.

What are you doing with your computer? hmm....

EDIT: Downloading some stuff at the moment, but i think its good;)!

I'm a massive believer in the 'firmware can corrupt your Blu Ray drive system board' because nearly a year ago I got the spinning loading icon problem where it wont read any disks after a FW update (despite the laser lighting up) and have never fixed it since out of principal.

Now to add insult to injury I think the internal clock error has messed up things even further by corrupting my game saves. My MC-LA game save says carrier progress is at 0%, unfortunately I cannot go into the game to check if I have really lost everything because of the dead drive. I havent lost any current trophies because I havent been able to get any! :ouch:

So the console is getting more and more useless with every passing day, oh joy!

Robin.

Sorry to hear that and I wholeheartedly agree ... the FW that brought the ingame XMB thingy killed my 1st PS3... I can't prove it, but to me it's just too obvious as it started acting up as soon I downloaded it and then 2 days later it wouldn't read any discs anymore. 👎

I hate those updates anyway, because I loved it how it was before (especially the clean, minimalistic look) and other than security issues I don't really see a reason to make them mandatory.

Anyway, update on my issue:

It seems to be solved finally, what the Sony customer service told me seems to actually work.
I bought a router, connected it to my modem, PS3 and PC and since I could log into PSN easily, but not play online(no NAT type), I had to open the necessary ports for it and now I have NAT 2, which should be normal in this case I think and it didn't sign me out once since then.

However I noticed while being on PSHome, many, many people have similar issues( i.e. getting booted all the time), so I think my 'workaround' solution could be quite helpful afterall. :)

Thanks again for all the help and keep fingers crossed :scared:

Yeah you need nat type 2 for gaming.
I don't think it was that what cause the problem, seems to me like a port problem from your old router/modem.

Glad your back to the psn world
