2. WHAT:

One evening, Five games, at least one race in each of them.

The games are:

Red Cell under game column: Player doesn't have the game

Red cell under game column with NTSC inscription: Player has the game, but is unable to play online due to region lock constraint 👎

Red Cell under "PSN FRIEND STATUS": Player is not PSN FRIEND of the despotic organizer :sly: therefore and until this situation changes is unable to take part in the Event.

I ask all Pentathlonists to verify the table posted and to ask the correction of anything not right about them (PSN ID, games owned, PSN Friend Status)

4. HOW:

4.1 - GENERAL RULES

4.1.1 - RACE RULES

GTP OLR rules & guidelines apply for any issue about track behaviour. In case you don't know them, or if you have any doubt, check them here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=111241

4.1.2 - SCORING

In each game, the final scoring will be like it used to be in F1 until last year, meaning 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points from 1st to 8th in each of the event races.

Each driver's final score, regardless of how many games he has/races he enters, will be the result of his 4 best races (of course, if a racer only enters 3 or 4 races, his score will be obtained adding the scores from all races he entered, if however he enters all 5 races/games he will have to drop his poorer result)

4.1.3 - REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER THE EVENT:

a) To own and/or be able to play in the event's night at least 3 of the above mentioned 5 games;

b) To have GTP_Hun in the PSN Friends List (also advisable to have all other pentathlonists, in case hosting duties are delegated during the Event)

4.1.4 - PLAYER COMMUNICATION RULES DURING THE EVENT:

A few minutes before 20:00 GMT, I will open a XMB Chat window and will send invites to all Pentathlonists (That's one of the reasons I need you guys in my friends list). Since all races in all games, regardless of lobby / headset availability, will be organized from the XMB Chat, it is mandatory to be in this XMB Chat in order to take part in the Event.

Although there's no need to establish specific rules of chat conduct, and of course some funny moments and comments are to be expected, I have to ask all pentathlonists to avoid spamming the chat and also to pay close attention to race-start related messages, not only by reading them but also to confirm you "readyness" status before countdowns begin. I will elaborate more on this in each game's race rules, further down this post.

One rule, however, is to be observed. NO CHAT USE while a race is in progress. And that means until ALL players ended their races (first guys/race winners ... shut up and wait for all others to finish before you post your victory celebration or congratulatory messages ;) )

If you guys can get yourselves a USB keyboard that will be very useful.

USB headsets will also be useful in SCC and, although less effective, in SSV8 and SHIFT. However, during the races they are not to be used, and should be unplugged if possible.

4.2 - RACE SPECIFIC RULES

4.2.1
GRAN TURISMO: PROLOGUE

Gran_Turismo_5_Prologue_Box_Art2.jpg

ONLINE EVENT: SUZUKA PRO 700 PP (10 LAPS)

CAR: FREE CHOICE

DRIVING AIDS: FREE CHOICE

RACE DETAILS:

Sadly, the rehearsal's experience showed us that our previous plan isn't feasable. The fact is, we can't even be sure what will happen. So, this is what we will do:

We will ALL try to match. Those who succeed do their race. Those who don't immediately proceede to a rematch and maybe this way we get all players racing quick, probably split in two or more races. After these races end we will decide what to do to get a final GT5P-classification.

GT5:Prologue is an old game, and it shows in its primitive online features. Players meet through random matching and it would be futile to try and match up ALL 12 players in the same race ( 13, if Simcoeace shows up, and that would exceed in any case the events capacity).

So, and because we are 12 atm, players are divided in 3 groups of 4 that we will name groups A, B and C (I enter Group C, please state what groups you want to enter)

GROUP A -
1. ...................
2. ...................
3. ...................
4. ...................

GROUP B -
1. ...................
2. ...................
3. ...................
4. ...................

GROUP C -
1. GTP_Hun
2. ...................
3. ...................
4. ...................

With everyone in the XMB Chat, I will ask all players in Group A to state their readyness to start a matching process (please don't make us lose time with this, tune your car before the event, save your tune, be ready at the appropriate screen when the time comes). After all write "ready", I will write a countdown (5, 4, 3, 2, 1, GO) and when I write GO you all press "X" to start the matching process.

IF all Group A players enter the same race (I will know this if nobody complains that he had a FAIL in the chat), I proceede to do the same with Groups B and C.

If not, all players from Group A that are in race must quit the PSN
(I hope everyone knows how to do this, but if you guys don't know it is very simple to do: go to the XMB, go to the Login icon, press triangle and select "Cancel". You will be out of the PSN and therefore thrown out of the race, but nbever leaving the game)

Note: PLEASE DO NOT LEARN HOW TO DO THIS DURING THE EVENT, WE WILL ALL LOSE PRECIOUS TIME

After we managed to do all the Group races, we will re-shuffle the groups and create 4 groups of 3 drivers, like this:

Group 1 -
winner of Group A race
winner of Group B race
winner of Group C race

Group 2 -
2nd place of Group A race
2nd place of Group B race
2nd place of Group C race

Group 3 -
3rd place of Group A race
3rd place of Group B race
3rd place of Group C race

Group 4 -
4th place of Group A race
4th place of Group B race
4th place of Group C race

The races of these groups will be run exactly as described for Groups A, B and C races

After these races, and with all race positions reported to the XMB chat, the final classifictaion of this first GAME RACE will be as follows:

1st - Winner of Group 1 race
2nd - 2nd place from group 1 race
3rd - 3rd place from group 1 race
4th - Winner of Group 2 race
5th - 2nd place from group 2 race
6th - 3rd place from group 2 race
7th - Winner of Group 3 race
8th - 2nd place from group 3 race
9th - 3rd place from group 3 race
10th - Winner of Group 4 race
11th - 2nd place from group 4 race
12th - 3rd place from group 4 race

4.2.2
NEED FOR SPEED: SHIFT

45736659_1.jpg

LOBBY: PRIVATE, MANUFACTURER RACE

CIRCUIT: NURBURGRING NORDSCHLEIFE

# OF LAPS: 2

CAR: LOTUS ELISE 111R

DRIVING AIDS: FREE CHOICE

Although the physics of this game are a bit "peculiar" at least we've got a lobby system and that's a relief. We have 10 racers in this one (or 11, if Siomcoeace shows up) and I have heard some horror stories about lag in larger lobbies. I hope we do achieve a successful race. If the lobby collapses, however, I will have no choice but to - again - divide the players in 2 groups. However, in this case the races will be reduced to 1 lap in length. group re-shuffle for the second race and final classification, in this case, will be made like explained for GT5P.

Please note: What was written above will be made in the event of lobby collapse. Player disconnects (up until half the number of the ones that started the race) will be treated as DNF's due to "mechanical failure" and will have no points awarded. Sorry for the possible injustices, but the show must go on.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: SHIFT has a very annoying countdown in-lobby that can seriously damage the procedures and make us all lose a lot of time. So, the race-start procedures are like this. Every player, when ready to check/accept the invite, will write "ready" in the XMB chat. After that, the host will send ALL invites simultaneously. It's the responsability of the players to show up in the lobby before the game-countdown ends. If any of them doesn't show ... that's his problem, it's ll be a "No show" and that's that.

4.2.3
SUPERCAR CHALLENGE

30749_SCC_Boxart.jpg

LOBBY: PRIVATE, 16 PLAYERS

CIRCUIT: SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS

# OF LAPS: 7

CAR: FERRARI 360 GT

CAR SETUP: NOT ALLOWED (CAR MUST REMAIN WITH DEFAULT SETTINGS)

LIVERY: DEFAULT LIVERY

DRIVING AIDS: NONE, EXCEPT BRAKING ZONES RACING LINE

COLLISIONS: OFF WHEN PENALIZED

The toughest physics, the best online experience by far. BUT ... we may encounter a new kind of problem: the (in) famous INCOMPATIBILITY BUG.

It's completey unpredictable and it may affect any of us, and there is nothing we can do about it besides checking our connection, making it as good as possible (if NAT 3 or 0 you will most probably have problems). DO IT before the Event starts, it will be too late by the time we get to SCC.

I'm willing to lose a few minutes here, considering that SCC is the ONLY game all pentathlonists have. So, we will try to get a full lobby with me hosting, and if it doesn't work properly, we will try two more hosts. But in the end, we will have to do this without those that cannot keep a stable connection to the lobby.

In case of lobby collapsing (collapse = losing more than half the players that started the race) before the leader begins lap 5, we retry. After that, positions will be granted as they were before the collapsing

4.2.4
SUPERSTARS V8: NEXT CHALLENGE

550_SUPERSTARS10_PS3.jpg

LOBBY: QUICK RACE, PRIVATE (PASSWORD NEEDED), 12 PLAYERS

CIRCUIT: PORTIMÃO

# OF LAPS: 10

CAR: FREE CHOICE

DRIVING AIDS: FREE CHOICE

DAMAGE: YES

TYRE WEAR: YES

AI: NO

Another game with peculiar physics, but excellent and very stable online, bar the poor quality of voice-coms.

Good lobby system so, as in SCC, the XMB chat use will almost NOT be needed to helkp in the set-up of the race. With one very important exception: THE LOBBY PASSWORD. It will be only revealed by me in the XMB Chat, right after I create the lobby.

4.2.5
FORMULA ONE: CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION

51vaflJSchL.jpg

(Note: Settings not yet final, I will update this post tomorrow, so keep checking)

LOBBY: PRIVATE (PASSWORD NEEDED), 11 PLAYERS

CIRCUIT: INTERLAGOS

LAPS: 15

PITS (FUEL; TYRES; DAMAGE): ON

COLLISIONS: OFF

AI: MEDIUM

WEATHER: DRY

DRIVING AIDS: FREE CHOICE

CAR: FREE CHOICE

And finally, we reach the pinnacle of motorsport!

I have ben lazy (and without time) so I still have to sort a few details on this one. Shaggy_Alonso will help me on this and, most probably, he will be the racer hosting the lobby. All details on how to get there, password included, will be published in the XMB Chat, right after he has opened the lobby and everything is ready for us to enter it!

5 - RACE RESULTS AND CLASSIFICATIONS

(Under Construction)

That's it (for now) Good luck all and most of all ... have fun!

Nicely done Mario :)

I haven't had time to read through it all but I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say thanks for putting in all the effort, it should be a really fun event 👍

Man my eyes hurt now. I'm good for any group just put me in whatever suits.
Nice work there.
Me and thefast1 one just had a go on GT5 and pressed start when the seconds hand on the clock hit 30 seconds which worked nicely.

A smaller font size would make reading easier 💡

Done! :D

drivatar, do you confirm your "dark grey" status?

Meanwhile, I'd really appreciate if all pentathlonists would pick their race group (A, B or C) for the first race of GT5P

And don't forget, we will have a FULL REHEARSAL of the Event tonight at 20:00 GMT.

GROUP A -
1. arvore(Miguel)👍
2. ...................
3. ...................
4. ...................

Now I don't want to see any of you faster guys(DORITOS ,DORITOS...) in my lobby...:dunce:

Haha that's ok Miguel, I knew you were only kidding. I thought i'd keep things nice and even and opt for group B. I just hope the better racers give me an easy time by joining other groups. (if you're a good racer, go away! Leave me alone!)

Or I wonder if there will end up being a group of death? Hope it's not mine (me being the whipping boy of the group) :nervous:

hi mario
Do we have to pick for the rehersal tonight?

Not needed Henrik, we will split according to who ever shows up (2 or 3 groups) and we will do it in the XMB Chat! Beware of the hour, 20:00 GMT is, I think 22:00 for you.

My status is more than grey, it's completely black
I can only wish you all a good event 👍

That too bad drivatar, but thanks for you wishes :indiff:

Meanwhile, we lost Manny also, due to family/social unavoidable duties. Hope next time we can meet! :)

The players chart has been updated.

Blitz and darkos, don't forget to add me as friend!

Also ... a decision has been reached on the SCC car, it will be the Ferrari 360 GT. Thanks to all that took part yesterday in the selection process. We tried:

- The Corvette C6R
- The F430 GT2
- The 250 TR
- The Daytona Spyder
- The 330 P4
- The 360 GT

among a few others, but in the end the 360 GT became obvious as the one that would allow closer and fun racing.

Yeah, yeah, but

WHERE WAS HE when we needed his honest opinion?

WHERE WAS HE when we spent HOURS coming and going from car to car at Spa (how boring ...)?

WHERE WAS HE when we discussed it all, with as much seriousness as the Security Council?

The answer? Jeff was here, together with Biggles and (barely visible at the back and dressed in virginal white) AlanG:

I see Jeff now communicates his feelings through the medium of photography.

Yes but now I'm glad for not being the only one who didn't get that ham sandwich subtle one:)

EDIT: I will probably manage to get my hands on a borrowed F1 CE by the end of the afternoon so if you guys don't mind I would like to join this combo too.I promise not to stand in anybody way I'll just stand aside at the start and then take a few laps with you guys...

Hi Guys.

Excellent news Miguel 👍 Make sure you load up the game and create a multiplayer account before we get to the event so as to save time. There is a FFB patch for wheel users that you may have to download also.

Btw, don't worry about holding anyone up or getting in anyone's way as collisions will be switched off for this round.

Here's a question, how do you save a set up for a car? I've had to tune up my car each and every time i've started an online game as it always starts with a default set up. I know you should be able to save 3 set ups, A, B and C but A is always just a default set up when I load up an online practice.

I went into arcade mode to see if I could maybe tune it up offline but it didn't give me the option. Can someone help me with this? :dopey:

I have the exact same problem:nervous:

If you guys go to online mode in GT5P you can practise with your car (second option, first is "race" with the chequered flag). And you can also tune it and save 3 tunes (A, B and C). To make sure they remain saved, you must leave online mode and come back to the main game screen BEFORE you quit the game( i.e., only quit the game after you left online mode).

By doing this, your game is saved and your tunes are also. When you go back t online mode, you'll find the cars tuned exactly as you left them.

Hope this helped! 👍

Actually I just sussed it out now then I read your post :ouch:

I actually went back to the main menu and scrolled right and selected 'save'. Are you saying this isn't actually necessary, just so long as you go back to the main menu before quitting the game altogether?

EDIT: Just to add, I am so, so right about the 360 GT :sly: I used it straight after a dozen or so laps in my Barbie car at Suzuka and it felt challenging but fine. Using something like the Maranello GT would have resulted in a first lap like this:

Looking forward to some good races tonight :D And I've added you to my PSN list Mario! See you all tonight 👍

You are added Blitz 👍 the only one missing still is nWcPL, don't know if he will show up tonight.

Just a quick review on last night's rehearsal.

1. GT5P

This game was a TOTAL NIGHTMARE, the worst experience ever we lost about 2 FULL HOURS just trying to do a race with a group of 3 players.

So, I specifically ask everyone to try to better their online connections (hard wire them if using wirless)or we may simply have to ditch GT5P from this event, and that would be a great shame.

Anyway, from this horrible experience result two major changes regarding what's posted on post 1.

FIRST - The Event will start ONE HOUR SOONER, meaning 19.00 PM GMT ! That means 20:00 PM in the UK, Ireland and Portugal, 21:00 PM in most of Europe, and 15:00 in East USA.

SECOND - We will not do this using preset racing groups. We will all try to enter one race and those who enter do the race. Those who don't rematch immediately. After all have raced I'll decide on what to do and if we try head-to-head races between winners, 2nd placed, 3rd placed, etc.

TWO other very important notes.

PLEASE LEARN HOW TO QUIT A ONLINE RACE IN GT5P WITHOUT QUITTING THE GAME, JUST PSN.

It is very easy, and if you know how to do it you won't lose (and make everyone else lose) more than 30 seconds to be able to rematch.

1. YOu are in a race without any other pentathlonist.
2. Press start to "STOP" the race
3. Press "PS" to go to the xmb
4. You probably have the chat window in front of you. Get rid of it pressing "O" as many times as needed
5. In the XMB, go to the "login to PSN" column (just left of the friends list column).
6. Go to the login icon
7. Press the Triangle button on your pad/wheel
8. Select "Cancel Registration" (or whatever, don't know how it's writeen in english or any other langauge) and press "X"
9. Boom, you log off the PSN and the Game (still in the background) instatntly "spits you out" of your online race and back to the "start race screen".

PRACTISE THIS UNTIL YOU GET IT.

The event cannot wait for those that say they have to leave the game to quit a online race.

One other thing. Have your car selected and tuned and all of it saved even before you enter the Pentathlon. Even if you don't have to quit the game to quit a online race, if you get in a "freeze" situation the only option is to reboot the PS3.

Again, the event cannot wait for those that need to tune the car all over again every time something happens.

There are no relevant results to tell about GT5P. Two races happened, one between arvore and mhm66 only, and arvore won. The other one had me, Shaggy, Bjorn and adddictions and I won, Shaggy 2nd, Bjorn 3rd and "addd" 4th.

2. NFS: SHIFT

At first I asked arvore to open a lobby but he had some technical difficulties with it ;) so in the end I hosted in this game. All went well, no lag problems, no disconnects, nothing special to say. The host must be very careful about only sending the invites after the lobby is created and every setting of it carefully checked, and also after all participants report being ready to immmediately accept the incoming invites.

Race result in this test was:
1st - THE--HOG
2nd - adddictions
3rd - mhm66
4th - TL_Bjorn
5th - GTP_Hun
6th - arvore (clearly the technical problems were slowing him down :D)
7th - frawe

3. SCC

This was heaven. Private lobby, and a relaxed one without stupid countdowns and with perfectly working voice chat. I hosted, all went smoothly.

Race result -
1st - mhm66
2nd - Shaggy_Alonso
3rd - GTP_Hun
4th - frawe
5th - adddictions
6th - arvore (what can I say ... I'd call the mechanic and kill him on sight)
7th - TL_Bjorn
8th - THE--HOG

4. SUPERSTARS V8: NEXT CHALLENGE

Again, no real problems with this one, although voice chat is pretty much useless. Pity I can't drive here (this time I was the one having mechanical problems :D )

Result was:

1st - Shaggy_Alonso
2nd - mhm66
3rd - arvore
4th - frawe
5th - GTP_Hun
6th - TL_Bjorn

5. FORMULA ONE: CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION

And finally we got to the last race of the night. I must warn all interested that this happened at approximately 1.00 AM GMT

Shaggy hosted and we had no in-race real problems with lag or connections, although some disconnects happened before we actually started.

Race result was:

1st - Shaggy_Alonso
2nd - GTP_Hun
3rd - GTP_Bullie (joined the Chat during the V8 race, and the test for this last one)
4th - TL_Bjorn
5th - arvore
6th - adddictions

And that was it, I want to thank everyone that took part and endured with me the frustration of the almost 2 hours spent trying to have our races in GT5P. I want to especially thank mhm66 and TL_Bjorn, because both won't be able to take part in the event tonight, but their presence and colaboration was critical for the success of the tests we conducted.

Thank you, and see you all later! :)

PS - read 1st post (the GT5P section) if you have any doubts

PPS - Didn't do the math, but it is clear to me that if yesterday we were doing the Event, Shaggy_Alonso would become the clear and undisputed champion, with 2 wins (V8 and F1) and 2 2nd places (GT5P and SCC). Great driving, skill and capacity to quickly adapt to different games. Kimi Raikonen should regard you as a example of all he should be doing! ;)

Well just goes to show that a good F1 driver could excel at every other kind of racing. ;) Other than that it shows how each driver did best in their own "discipline".

It's really inexcusable that PD have delayed GT5 for sooo long & haven't even bothered to provide a decent online mode for Prologue. And yet so many people still want to idolize KY/PD/GT.

Mario, I can't possibly participate in such a long-drawn out event, but I wish you guys luck. 👍

Yeah Ben really rocked in every game last night and he is clearly one of the favourites for tonight events:tup:

About GT5 it was the most frustrating experience I had ever had in a online racing night:yuck:
2 hours to do 1 single race only with another pentathlonist:nervous: .BTW Mário Henrick won, can't beat him in nothing with wheels...:ouch:

During this purgatory I had time to drink 4 Bushmills which clearly compromised my performance for the rest of the evening:dunce:
Don't drink and drive even if it's in a videogame...💡

I'm sure that tonight things will work better:)

EDIT: Tonight I promise to stick to coffee and orange juice...:dopey:

I will do my best to go the distance tonight but as I said I have a 2.30 am start tomorrow. Even though I'm known by my friends as the guy who doesn't sleep I will need a few hour kip. So I'll race what I can.
Probably do GT5 & shift maybe SCC, Haven't got V8SC so I probably won't wait to race F1.

Hi Mario.
I am unable to connect to the PSN today. I have a connection problem i have been trying whole day, My network provider says the are working on it. I have come to work just write to you. hopefully i will be up and running again soon, i was looking forward to this.
Merphys law. Sorry guys.

Bushmills?! No wonder the NFS Shift round was plagued by 'technical difficulties'

That whiskey is made just a few minutes from where I went to university, though thankfully I didn't squander my degree by going there too often 👍

See you all soon :)

Was a good nights racing I hope next time I will be a bit more competitive in races other than shift. Then hardest one for me was GT5 which I practised all day and now It's being scraped.
Again I'm sorry about the odd bit of contact to a few of you in shift think arvore had the most but if we was in the BMW M1 pro car I wouldn't of touched him as he would of been 8 seconds ahead.
Not sure if it was frawe who had the worst contact as he went on the grass so I waited so he could retake his position in this process I got in blitz's way too.
Didn't think I was coming anywhere after that start as arvore was 15 seconds clear but I managed to pull it back and take my disappointing 1st place. As there was contact and I race clean.
Really need to get into the other games more.
Would of loved to stay to the end but I do really early starts but hopefully this will change as I've employed truck driver number 13.

PS... Arvore you drive so much better on juice. I joined alcoholics anonymous a group of us get absolutely smashed and don't tell anyone.

 @Jay

Well despite of the logistic nightmare we all Knew this would be(only a corageous guy like Mário could get this thing going-thank you for that:tup: ),this evening things went much more smoothly than last night...
In GT5P I was able to get in the same lobby as Blitz,new_soul,adddictions and Hog and for my surprise I managed to be the first pentathlonist to cross the finish line( 3 randomizer punters:tdown: smashed there way to the lead...one of them shunted me in the last corner of the final lap to finish ahead of me:indiff:
But I guess the other guys had an even worst experience:yuck:
In shift things went smoother with everyone getting in the same lobby-except for Bullie that had freezing problems:nervous:- the racing was good with very good performances of Mário and Jeff-considering the little time they have in this game- and adddictions absolutely rocked and left me miles behind,Great Race Jason:tup:
Scc as always was the easiest game to get everyone(we had lost Mário and Blitz at this moment due to real life commitments) in the lobby Jeff gently hosted.Had good battles with Ben,new_soul-amazingly fast as always and had won for sure if wasn't stucked behind me-and Jeff:tup:
In SSV8NC Ben used his F1 experience in driving worn tyres and after he overtook me never gave me a chance to keep up with him, great win Benedictus:P;)
By the moment we got to F1 CE we were only 4 left(the mosqueteers) Ben-who needless to say lappped us all.my best lap was 1,19,his was 1,07:scared: -hosted for me,Bullie and Frawe and showed us that this game (despite very dataded in the graphics departement) is probably the hardest for casual players since the demanding sim handling and pit strategy makes it only manageble to regular players.

It was a long and exausting night of racing but ,despite all the setbacks overall enjoyable ,thanks everyone for the races thanks Mário to get things rolling:tup:
