So i saw this ad today here and was immedatly hooked.
http://www.gtomegaracing.com/
What do you think?
has someone some experience with this one??
I for one think it's a pretty sweet deal, cause i wanted to build one myself in this kind of design (bended tubes,...), but alone to bend the tubes would cost me some bucks.
That would be a pretty sweet deal for a basis to work on later. Some mods will surly be made...
UPDATE: Got it ordered, will dispatch tomorrow, hope it arrives this week. A review will follow soon after
Here´s a photo for the lazy ones
UPDATE II&III REVIEW:
So my package arrived this morning, and i started building it up during lunchtime. So take this as a pre-review.
1. ordering and delivering :
The order was quickly placed, but the shop (ref. "he") only acceptes for the moment paypal. I needed to reactivate my account for that but it wasn't a major throwback. Had some emails going in and out, talking to the guy. He's nice and will help out in case of problems as far as i can judge. Ordered Moday evening, package was picked up tuesday, got it today (Luxemburg, so Germany, France, Benelux should be as quick).
2. Materials:
The steel tubes are very sturdy and massive (not massive, but +-1,2mm thick), the welding points are not perfect (only handmades are) but they are very good.
The drilling holes fit the screws good (a bit of pushing needed in few cases to get them in, but it's not like they wouldn't fit)
The paintcoating is good, had 2 scratches in the paint but on panels that are not visible. The overall quality of the paint is good.
The overall quality of the materials is good.
3. Mounting:
Mounting was easy. A sheet of manuel is with the package and a completer guide is on his website. It ain´t as expicit as a lego built
but apart from what placement for which screws, it is pretty much logical.
I build up the front frame in about 10 min alone. The wheelmount /-base can be loose because it has a little tilt. Don´t know if intended but a little plastic should be enough to block it. I didn´t mount the monitorstand which is needed to have one of the little desks, and the keyboardholder is not mounted, i will mount it only if needed, but are surly as easy to mount as the rest. A screwdriver is not really needed but can speed things up a little. All the materials and tools required to mount the cockpit are in the package.
4. Sturdyness:
This probalby being the most important thing for most of us. I just pushed and pulled a bit on he frame and it´s very sturdy.
5. Modability:
as it looks now all my propositions made early are easily achievable. So the wheel mount can be modded to have height adjustement, the pedals can be reversed easily....
When I mounted the frame yesterday i had some problems with the non stock seat. But I took the sliders from this kit to replace the mounting frame and sliders from the car. That saved me 2-5 cm (2inch?). Now i should be on the same height as with the seat that comes with the kit. Yesterday i was too lazy. Now it´s done properly.
Buttkicker is no problem to mount (pics)
6. Playtime
Now I played 2 hours on the rig and sturdyness is really not a problem. The configuration of seat - shifter - wheel is good for me, but as it lacks adjustment i can be problems for tall people (but as said before, it can be moded easily out of wood or metal to adjust the height of wheel and shifter). The first hour i played GT5P, and it was very good (i haven´t played for months). You sit close to the ground which is great, the shifter is in a good position and the pedals are inclinded so that takes it already closer to the reversed pedal mod.
Second game was SCC, it has a lot of FFB, i mean like a hell lot of FFB. Sturdyness still no problem.
The feeling while sitting in the rig is great as the frame looks a bit like a monocoque. I really enjoyed my first hours now with it.
7. Drawbacks:
The only drawback i saw so far,... hold on ... is that the shifter is on the half of the frame where the seat is. As i need to split the 2 halfs up to stock it in my room, it´s a bit of a pain right now. But nothing a mod can change. Thinking of a quick release kind of thing for the shifter.
And the wheelmount if it´s not intended. So ??
Adjsutability ... yeah that´s one
And if you wanna be a bi*** : 2 scratches in the 1st layer of paint
huhuhu
Quality prime materials : 4,5/5

Sorry for the mess lol
So i hope this review will help some people choose one cockpit or another.
If questions ask.
Update IV:
Shifter Mod (adjusted):
The cockpit is divided in 2 main sections:
1: Seat, shifter
2: Wheel, pedals
And as i need to split it up in order to save place and use my desktop and PC.
So i mounted the shifter on the 2nd half, where the keyboard mount is supposed to be (holes already there, so no unmounting, and drilling needed)
Than you choose your material :either wood or metal. Simply built an U like on the pic and adjust height and lenght to your needs. And with this butterfly nuts,... it´s also a quick release if needed.
![](/forum/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fimg339.imageshack.us%2Fimg339%2F6587%2Fimg3022h.jpg&hash=4451ea83c70a6a930ce80b0772092006)

Wheel mod (adjusted)
So in order to stock the 1st part underneath my desk i needed to remove the wheel. This was a real pain in the foot as the shifter was still on the second half.... So i decided to do a quick release for the wheel. This is also very cool if you have more than one wheel so you can change between the 2 under a minute.
Like with the shifter you need to adjust the wheel in distance and tilt for yourself. Take the original wheel mount as template. Than cut it out on wood or steel whatever you want, and do 2 of those. Drill the holes like on the template. And you´re nearly done. Very easy till now, and it continues like that.
Important: Insert the bolts before screwing the 2 pieces together because it will not be possible after.
Cut out a triangle or square of wood in a certain thick (the thick will adjust the tilt)&(you may need to grind a bit off of one side to incline the wood a bit) put it between the 2 pieces of wood and screw everything together. And voila.
NEW WHEEL MOUNT, ADD ADJUSTABILITY

in order to get the wheel on the QR, you need to remove the clamps of the wheel or you cut out little sqares out of the wood where the clamps are.

undo the wires with releasing the white thing (carefully to not harm the pins)

Remove the 3 bigger screws without a ring underneath. Then pull the pedals off
and now it´s:

Now on the bottom side unscrew all screws (4 black & 8?silver ones)
![](/forum/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fimg3.imageshack.us%2Fimg3%2F6645%2Fimg3015dy.jpg&hash=902976184a2b241dcbcb7cc5d80493c3)
Now open the case take the upper part (the big plastic screw) off the clamp off and push the rest of the clamp out. Remount everything in reversed order and done.
I propose buyers of the omega could present their built and mods also here, so all in one place.
