Oh my goodness, so much to say about this band. I guess I'll start off by saying I voted Hall of Fame.

I turn on my iPod, go to music->artists, scroll down through the A's, select Arcade Fire, then play the album Funeral. Neighborhood 1 (Tunnels) starts to play. I sit back and let the emotion through. Arcade Fire has the single biggest musical impact on my life. I love music with great passion; I listen to a very broad range of genres. But out of all the music that I listen to. Arcade Fire stands out as number one. Their musicianship in my opinion is unparalled in modern music. Win Butler put's such emotion in everything song he sings. Regine Chassange sings about her haitian heritage and the suffering of her native country from famine, poor health, and corrupt government. They put so much emotion in every song they write and sing, it's just beautiful. Three albums and one E.P, and zero bad songs. Everything they write is pure musical gold. If you haven't had the chance to experience Arcade Fire, I wholy recommend doing so. You will never regret it.

Some of my favorite tracks:

Also, an interesting note. Top Gear used No Cars Go for their Series 10 opener. It would have been cool if Polyphony used No Cars Go as the GT5 opening song.

Even though they have some pretty cool retro artwork, but their music is the 3rd option.

I dunno, ask me in 10 years. As for now it's a "meh", but we'll see later I guess.

They're not bad, kind of like a poor man's version of the Flaming Lips. Still, they get a 'good' from me.

Amazing band, they certainly have the makings of being Hall of Famers, but not yet.

I'm going to be a bit of a minority here but meh. Very rarely does indie music ever appeal to me. And when I do its because they are more involved with the prog or post rock crowd. Nothing against the band or genre but often times I find the indie fan base to be real snobby. I actually had some friends back in high school that would only listen to indie bands and all they wanted in a band was for them to be unknown so they can feel unique I guess. The music and genre as a whole rubs off on me the wrong and and I have given its fair of chances. I listened to the stuff posted in this thread and it just didn't do anything for me. So I give a very subtle "Take up a new profession" :)

So you don't like indie music because you don't like the people who listen to it...yet you write off an entire genre of music just like those snobby indie kids.

Hmm.

They're ok...

They have talent, but they haven't had time to develop enough of an original sound. Nothing about their music stands out enough. Decent indie band, but there are far better indie bands out there in my opinion.

They certainly haven't been around long enough to even be nominated for HOF.

Meh, from me...

;)

Uhh.. Did you read the first line of my post? Here is a direct quote. "Very rarely does indie music ever appeal to me. And when I do its because they are more involved with the prog or post rock crowd." This band offers nothing towards me. I feel like I have to try hard just to listen to it. I can't just sit back and relax as it soothes my mind.

EDIT: I realize the line I quoted is botched up English, I edited something out before posting and didn't re-read it but you get the idea of what I was saying.

Dude, how can you write off an entire genre because of it's fans? Just because there's not reptative blast beats and death growls doesn't make Arcade Fire suck.

This post is uncalled for. You obviously have no idea on what kind of music I listen to.

Prosthetic, there is no need in an argument over a band with a liking side vs a disliking side. I like this genre of music, but I do not like the band's music. I don't get mad over a band I do not like. Except the times I get angry when people talk good about a band or person that has done utter trouble.
So calm down, nobody needs a class arguer.

I'm sorry for defending my opinion after it gets questioned. Like I said, I have nothing against the band.

Don't take it personal I always give metalheads ****. I'm never serious about things I say like that. I guess I need sarcasm tags (as far as the blast beats and death growls comment) OH AND YOU HAVE A GIANTS AVATAR. 2 days ago I would've said go Rangers, but it seems a little futile right now

I love both Arcade Fire and the Flaming Lips and to be honest I see almost no similarities... Arcade Fire write theatrical songs about socialism sometimes while Flaming Lips write theatrical songs about sentient robots and a wicked bad girl ninja. Love them both, though. Musically, Arcade Fire would be more likely to use a bunch of acoustic instruments while the Flaming Lips would probably hook a fuzz pedal up to a tuba or something ridiculous.

OP: Hard to say a band is HOF when they're as young as Arcade Fire. Kind of jumping the gun a bit? Great band though.
