Chaps,
I've tried to find this on the Fanatec site but it seems to be a little difficult to find any support information on there..

What is the latest available firmware for a PWTS. I updated my wheel to 6.69 but is there a later version than that? If so does anyone have a link to it please.

Cheers
Meurig

the new firmware is very nice :) i was just using the pwts on a few consoles and its nice to be able to adjust so many settings right on the wheel and have different profiles.

I have the Porsche 911 Turbo S Wheel, do you recommend this firmware? I have the original loaded, I know there has been a couple updates. Does this one improve on the others or is there an older one I should look for?

---Edit -
I assume that this update includes everything in the 669 update. Is the fan still an issue with this newest firmware?

Thanks for any info you can give about this. Trying to get everything inline for Wednesday. (Dont know if you heard, but there is a real cool racing game coming out)

Newest is the best. Newest version greatly improves FFB in f2010.(new adjustments) All ff after 699 also have dead zone option which eliminates shaking in GT5: P.

Great, thanks for the reply.

Is there any thing I should worry about while updating? Is it pretty straight forward? I have Vista 64, is that a problem?

-edit-
I just downloaded it and read the instructions. Doesnt look to bad. I'll tackle it tomorrow and post if I have any question.

READ UPDATE MANUAL and follow it :) ! 95% of update problems are results of not following instructions. Installing driver is easier with xp but i have updated my wheel with win 7 x64 so you can do it also with vista x64.

You might need to launch update exe with adminstrator login and put xp compatibility mode on. (i do not remember anymore, sorry)

Thats what I had to do. And yes, I would recommend the 681 update, F1 is much better now. Heres hoping theres another coming for GT5 if necessary.

With my Windows 7 x64 PC I had to run the updates in XP mode and with admin privileges. And yes, definitely read over the documentation carefully before starting the update.

When my new PWTS wheel arrived it was loaded with FW:613. One of the things I wanted was the steering deadzone adjustment for GT5P but that is not on FW:613. I also noticed a problem with the brakes while playing Forza 3. Sometimes the brakes would apply while driving even if my foot was not on the brake. They only activated a little but enough to destory lap times. I even set the deadzone in the game fairly high and the problem persisted.

Yesterday I applied the FW:681 and ran a few laps and the brake problem was fixed. I then removed the deadzone settings in game for the brake and still no problems. I did however notice a bit of a deadzone in the steering even when the deadzone on the wheel and in the game are both at 0. It is not a big deadzone but it is noticable. I would guess about 1/4-1/2 inch in either direction. I have only noticed this in Forza 3 but I did not notice it with the older FW version.

I just uploaded the latest firmware. All went well, the second time. But all the settings are there. Unfortunately dont have my copy of Prologue available right now to test it on.

One thing I have noticed. While in PS3 mode, the face buttons are coming up ABXY instead on the PS symbols. Has this happened on your update aswell?

I don't think so. Seems like I saw the normal X O [] and ^ but I can not be 100% sure. I do not have the wheel setup right now. Will check tomorrow.

Please do, its kind of annoying. I know it wasnt like that before I updated it.

I noticed this too. After I updated from 613 to 681 when I'm connected to the PS3 and put the PWTS in PC mode the xbox buttons light up now, but it functions still. TO GET PS3 LIGHTS JUST PUSH THE BACK & CONNECT BUTTONS SIMULTANEOUSLY and your lights will be back to PS3.

Might have to do it again after loading Prologue, with 613 it would turn the lights off when I booted GT5P but I could put them back on again by pressing those two buttons.

Thanks for the heads up. Least I wasn't the only one. I'll trying more carefully when putting it ps3 mode. I don't have a wheel comparable game at the moment so that's one of my issues.

I just tested on mine and everything looks fine. It could be that I am using a different procedure than you guys though.

I start by turning on the PS3 while the wheel is still off.
After the PS3 is on I turn on the wheel.
I then press and hold the back+connect until the PS icons light up on the buttons.
I am connected with the USB cable rather than the dongle if it makes a difference.

Same on the PS2 as on the PS3.

I read in the manual related to the xbox that you should wait until the system is on rather than turning it on with the wheel so I have been waiting to power up the wheel each time and I have saw no issues related to the lights on the buttons.

In PC mode I have no buttons lit.

My fanatec wheel just arrived last friday. The firmwire update is this so you can run GT5 with the pwts? or is this strictly for the wheel itself?

Is there any patches or updates needed that have to be downloaded through the PS3 in order for the wheel to work?

The wheel works out of the box.
Updates are not mandatory, only optional.

I needed to update it for GT5P and for GT4. In both games the wheel gives some strong left-right feedback on straights out of the box. Once the update is applied you can set the center deadzone on the wheel and this issue disappears. It will work out of box though.

Gotcha, so bascially this new update will improve my GT5 expirience and is worth it.

Thanks for the info:tup:

I just update mine to the newest, and it adds quite a bit of options.

One advice : take a 32bit XP. Then follow their instruction. Real simple and understandable. Just follow step by step.

I am doing the install as I write. Ran into a problem. after completing step 1 which is the first install of the new firmwire. I need to install the second component. I get the message of needing to install the usb driver. I cant seem to locate where it is/how to install it. Any help?

This is where I am at in the install process

The firmware comes with the usb driver. It's located in a sub folder of the directory you are running the updatetool.exe from.
Either right click and select "install" or (like I had to in Win 7 64) go into device manager and find "unknown device" in the usb section and then "update driver" and select the one in the fimware package.

This is a picture of my usb driver folder. There is nothing i can install from here. Correct?

So you are saying I have to go into device manager (Ctr,Alt, Del?) Look at Processes and find the unknown device?
Dont quite get what you mean.

edit:just restarted my computer to see if I get different results.
I think I have found the usb driver. Will update shortly

Ok ok I have managed to link the usb driver in the firmwire update and now seems like it will work.

Right click on the inf file and choose install and see if that works.

All I did when I installed was when it got to the point that the system detected the loader I told it to look in this location and pointed it to the USB driver folder, worked fine.
