*sigh*
Mistakes happen. Reading over both eG's and Nick's posts, it just seems like a small misunderstanding. As has been said, it isn't a perfect system, and seeing as it involves people, human error does enter the picture occasionally.
From this, I guess we need a firm, understood approach on how the polls are dealt with. I ask 2.0 judges to send me the post numbers of their poll choices; this way, I get to review each image to ensure they follow both the rules of the comp itself, and the judge's personal theme. Yeah, there shouldn't be an issue with that last one... but we've had it happen before in GT4 where a judge would include an image that didn't even follow their own theme
. I suppose a standardized message reminding poll choosers of the following would work best:
- Ignore any entries not labeled with a "Final Entry". We'll even be as specific as requiring the red text if need be
- Ignore any entries that are over the 500px limit for their in-thread representation.
- Send us their choices in the form of post numbers. While this is more work for the Nick and I, it helps us find people who have entered more than once that week (yes, it's been attempted already), and let's us deal with the necessary PHP code. Actually, sending us your poll choices in the form of the links to the individual posts would be best: the little post number in the top right corner of every post. Right click -> Copy Link Location in Firefox does the trick
Nick has messaged me about editing the poll; unfortunately, since I just posted about the Competitions on the front page, we've had a huge influx of voters, and resetting the votes by including more entries is not something I want to have to deal with. So, I've got another solution:
Please direct yourselves to this Pt. 2 Poll, with 4 entries from Week 5
At the conclusion of both polls, a tie-breaker will be posted for the winners from both polls. This isn't perfect, but it is the easiest way to include the left out shots without disrupting the current 120 votes cast.
Considering Nick has already apologized, and had said he was looking for a solution, I'm not sure why the amount of hostility is warranted. However, take this as the best solution we could arrange this week. I'll look into streamlining the process further for next week:
Please head on over to this thread to discuss the topic further.
