So much details wasted..

I've been taking photos of the cockpit, and notice how much details are just hidden and not fully used.:indiff: The main problem is the camera angles or field of view is just bland, the cockpit's there, just not the view. Hopefully this will change in Forza 4.

Here are some pictures I took.

I think the main problem is that the Lighting-Engine is actually bad. There is no Global illumination inside and the HDRI reflections on the outside of the car are not properly tweeked yet. The thing is that i think that Forza models are as good if not better in some cases than GT5 premiums. Only Pd managed too make an engine that makes even standards look almost photorealistic in some angles and distance. But what is saw in the Kinect demo was a lot better than this.

Yes they could have done MUCH better with the cockpit view, sort of like NFS Shift did. Hopefully they learn from the mistake.

I am only wondering how the hell did you manage to get those pictures??? I can only look inside of the windows... How did you get into the car with the driver in the car?

You must have a development system...

IMO Forza 3 was rushed. They "had to" beat GT5 to the market and in doing that, a lot of things in the game weren't finished. I think Turn 10 wanted to have the cockpits displayed and explorable in FM3 but that feature got pulled in the rush to get the game to retail, just like how weather and time of day was pulled too.

Too me, FM4 is going to me what FM3 was supposed to be with a little bit of Kinect features haphazardly thrown in.

I'm glad that Turn 10 didn't spend too much time on the cockpits because think of all the other stuff they got done with that extra time (all premium cars, other features etc). Whereas PD sat and made buttons which are works of art and forgot about the whole 'game' thing.

You really have to strike a balance with game developing so that its a uniform experience. I don't think it was rushed at all, its development was excellently managed and done in a short time. The cockpits where always intended to be this level of detail and they are decent enough from a distance.

The good thing now is that Forza has lots of done cockpits for existing cars which just need a quick going over to improve them for F4. Its a good position to be starting in and again gives them much more time to implement other features. I think it will be another great all round game.

The lighting is the main thing they need to sort out though. Even with that fixed I don't believe GT5 premium cars are even achievable on 360 hardware because the PS3 is ever so slightly more powerful.

Robin.

I wanted to give you a look at the cockpit view of my first racing game. Lol.

I am just glad that I can hop into any car's cockpit (not just premium ones :sly:) and enjoy the detail or lack of for a few hours at a time. Something I would never be able to do in RL.

I just appreciate the evolution these games achieve with every new release.

And welcome to the forums. :)

The quality of the interiors whilst using that view is even higher than it is when using the player's photomode LoD where you can see the jagged textures on the driver's gloves.

Even if that is true, I hate the fact that you can't even look inside the car properly(Photomode/gameplay). There should be an option that lets you inside the cockpit while in photomode. Or atleast zoom out or something. FOV option just ruins the sense of speed, and looks bad in my opinion.

Forza's development was well managed and accomplished in a short period, But it was also rushed. MS changed the goalposts and decided it should be released earlier than origionally agreed to make "holiday season sales" turn10 were effectively told to "wrap it up, put it in a box and ship it or we will close your studio and make you redundant". Thats why when released things like shifter animations and other things werent done, but were added later via update. It seems MS are extremely agressive when it comes to pushing studios to get a title out early. I would hate to see what would have happened to PD if they were operating under MS instead of sony? Perhaps kaz's head would be mounted on a wall in the lobby by now? Kudos to T10 for acheiving what they did.

btw nice pics...and IGN is IGNITION

Sorry I can't say for specific reasons :nervous:. But I will upload cockpits of cars you guys want, or atleast ill try.

Oh I get it 💡

I was hoping it was a glitch anyone could do :(

Anyway, good pics. The detail of FM3's cars is far better then what some people would lead you to believe. Overall the game is let down by a badly setup lighting engine (not because of system limits but rather just a bad lighting engine) and bad LoD system.

Honestly Im not really impressed. They are very bland and sterile looking compared to GTR Evolution, and even older SimBin titles.

Still - better than nothing. :)

I am still floored that they went that far with the details considering that these are ment to be looked at through the window. Nice job.

These are all LOD right?

Request to see the Ford GT.

These things are fairly minor. Given a short amount of time per automobile and a higher poly count then you can notice the difference right away. Just by softening the edges will give a higher level of detail without sacrificing too much on the polycount. It will also give their lighting system a little more area for reflections and hotspots without having to resort to global illumination (although GI is so pretty to look at).

The beauty of 3D modeling is that once everything is in place you can always go back and tweak it. In short all the cars with interior can be quickly modified for anything; the main problem mostly being accuracy and location of key features.

It isn't necessarily difficult to fully model an entire car from a decent 3D modeler even with a short amount of time. That's the thing that gets me from PD since they have had so much time with their game I just find it hard that the have only gotten so little premiums.

I will admit that yeah the premiums look wonderful but some of the things you'd never see in real life. Others will argue that the difference between the two are the details. Still it has to make you wonder where the line has to be drawn. Model a shiny flip switch that takes months to do (in PD timeline) or just make with a simple shape and go onto something more important like gameplay, content and what people actually want.

Sorry for the fragmented reply. Typing from iPhone.

Not bad. They are improving with every iteration, whatever GT fanboys have to say about how GT5 ''owns''. By the way, interiors in GT5 looks better, but they sure don't look real with overtextured surfaces and really bad pixelated shadows.

Can't wait to see where they get graphicaly with FM4. It will be interesting to see if they can improve significantly or maybe 360 is reaching its peak...

rocketcaron I wouldnt expect much more graphically from fm4....with fm3 they already had to remove alot of the tyre smoke and dirt effects, and completely drop the brake dust and dirt build up on the cars to maintain the target frame rate. I think the x360 is prettymuch at the peak of what it can do with fm3 :(
