Welcome to the Weekly Hot Hatch Series - ROUND 2!

Thanks to Gt5anticip8r for coming up with the idea and running the first week of Round 1, which can be found here.

Now, as far as cars go:

Division into 2 classes.

Class 1 would be any hatchback with an engine capacity of 2.0l or LESS and is FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. No MR or AWD anymore.

Class 2 will be a floating class with the type and regulations changing from week to week.

Particpants can choose to enter oner or both of the classes each week.

Regulations:
Cars may be modified in any way, other than Race Modified.
  • No race cars allowed. This includes tuner cars and rally cars. (No HPA Stage II R32, Delta S4 Rally Car, WRC cars, etc.) NOTE that for Class 2, this Regulation may not apply.
  • Any tires, including slicks, may be used.
  • Drivers may change their car from week to week, as long as they enter the same car for the entire week.
  • No regulation on driver aids.
  • The car must have a vertically opening rear tailgate (No station wagons though!). Above all else, the car must be classified as a hatchback in real life.

To enter:
Complete your best lap in Time Trial/Practice mode. Take a picture of your result at the end of the session. As long as it shows the car (in words), time and track it’s sufficient.

Submit your lap by sending the picture, along with the exact name you want to race as to gtp-whh@coyle-uk.co.uk.

I will place your lap in the correct class and sort everything out from there.
Please note: The reason I'm keeping the submissions through e-mail is so as not to clutter up this thread. Especially since you’re bound to submit more than one time, as you improve. Feel free, though, to discuss lap times in here (as well as any queries you may have).

If anyone would care to have a run online with other participants, my online lounge is normally set to the current weeks track. All you need to do is add me on PSN.

Whats the exact time until we have to send our times in? Exactly one week or do you have a specific time when this "week" ends?

Thanks for the Info.

I've added the time in the OP. Should have remembered to put that in - d'oh!

As a new guy to GT5, and racing games in general. Can I have a few ideas of the cars you guys will be running? This looks interesting, I'd like to give it a try.

I'd imagine people will be running Honda Civics, VW Golfs, Peugeot's and no doubt some Suzuki Swifts, Mazda's, Daihatsus and Mitsubishi's thrown in for good measure.

In the "Long races" forum the old hot hatch series post shows what cars people used.

The rules are a bit different now though so it won't help quite as much. The big winners last go around were the mid engined and awd hatches, like the 80s homologation specials and the STi.

I used a CR-Z for the lower class last time and it didn't seem too competitive, but that might change with the new rules. Definitely just try a few cars to see what gives you the best times or is the most fun to squeeze performance out of. 👍

Assuming we are up to and including 1995 for class 2? Liking the new idea, will bring out a bit more variety!

We should definately try and get online for some practice/races.

Will we start to see times as the week progresses, or will the times just be released at the end of the week? I ask, just because it'd be nice to see where i'm at during the week.

Sorry if these questions are covered elsewhere....

Generally, I update the times as I get them, and there is quite a bit of discussion as to how people are getting on as the week progresses.

I've updated my times so far for the week. For the Class 2 I've opted for the '90 CR-X SiR. It handles quite well, although I haven't got many cars to compare it to.

How is everyone else getting on?

Thats a good time, I should be able to get some runs in tonight. Since the patch update, and now we have performance point rankings, do you think it would be worthwhile to post your cars PP as well, just as a comparison.

Just tried a couple of cars, first thought was the '90 CR-X but tried the Honda CITY Turbo '83 which was around 1:34. Went for the CR-X (painted Championship White :D) and just managed under 1:30. Might try an older Civic but I can't see any being quicker.

Any body got any none Honda ideas for Class 2?

Just sent in my entry.... as I said, I'm fairly new to GT5, and also using a DS3.

I managed a 1:31.569 with a ford focus st....

I'll keep trying this week, I think I can do a bit better....

If I get time, I'm going to have a blast about in the MK1 Golf and see how it goes eventhough I've chosen the CR-X for the week. I've got it stock, so if it feels good in stock form, I might upgrade it a touch and see how it ends up.

1:32 in a stock CR-X ? I had to tune the focus pretty good for my time. Might be picking up a DFGT tonight, hopefully after getting used to it, I can improve my driving.

The CR-X is far from stock - I was meaning the Golf MK1 is stock and before I spend anything on it, I want to get a feel for it.

Yeah the F1's can be distracting! I've had to change my driving view for them though, found bumper cam to be too manic.

I meant Codemaster's game, F1. I got the Ferrari F2007 in GT5 which was so much fun I went out and finally bought The F1 game. 👍

GT5 definitely has some good driving, but F1 makes GTs racing look pathetic. I do very much enjoy these time attack type events, but the AI/career in GT just isn't what I was hoping for.

That game is stressful though. Trying to put in a qualifying time and you think you're near perfect only to find you qualified in way back in 10th, only .1 seconds back from the leader.. yikes. You have to be spot on perfect for the entire qualifying session and race.

Ah! I've tended to stick away from the F1 games since the original GT simply for sheer depth - maybe i'll look at 2010 and see how it is.

I 100% agree with the sentiment about the AI - even on the short races, I found I was only really trying to beat my best lap times. I think apart from the Historic Cup races, everything else has been one attempt to win. Hopefully the next update will bring better AI, but we may be waiting a loooong time for GT5 to become a better racer rather than simply a driving simulator.

I've managed to blitz my previous times with a bit of tweaking to the suspension settings. It shows what difference it makes. Shaved 2.4s off the Civic and 2.9s off the CR-X. Happy days!
