After years of playing racing games with some backbreaking chair and a dodgy table I found around the house, I think it is time for a decent racing cockpit.

I've considered several types, but found them all to be too expensive. But a few days ago I stumbled across a set that looks like really good value but doesn't get a lot of attention on the internet, Speedmaster.

Does anyone have any experience with speedmaster? (Is is the v2.0 any good?)
website: http://www.speedmaster2.de/spmshop/index.php

Thanks in advance!

I've gone through with it and bought the Speedmaster with the Logitech g27. So I am going to answer my own question here.

In short: yes, I can recommend it, although it is not free of faults. Here's why.

Setting it up
It is here that I have my main concerns. I got 3 boxes delivered to my home: one for the Logitech and two for the rig. The boxes for the Speedmaster itself are big, heavy and therefore quite unwieldy; the parts inside the box aren't as well-protected as they could be. Combined with me having to wrestle them up the stairs results in the paint getting slightly damaged before I even used it.
Actually building it wasn't a walk in the park either: the instructions were only in German and the pictures weren't clear enough. Furthermore, it took some persuasion to get the parts to fit as they should.
Anyway, after about four hours, I got it assembled and ready for use.

Remark: on my package, the gearshift holder could only be mounted on the right, so that may be quite a disadvantage for customers from the UK, Japan, ...

The experience
When you get 'in', the first things you notice are that the gearshift holder is a bit too far back. This isn't a major problem, but I would have liked it to be a bit more to the front. Secondly, the plate for the steering wheel wiggles around a bit. This can easily be fixed though with a small piece of paper you put under it; but it's a pity.
When you are racing though, you don't really notice these small niggles. What you do notice it that the pedals of the g27 are slightly too upright. This is because the plate on which they sit is angled a tad too steeply and this can't be changed. This doesn't spoil the experience, but you will be forced to take a break every once in a while because you will get cramps in your feet.

The good things have to be mentioned too though: apart from the feet problem, the seating position is excellent, the whole rig is very stable, there's no bar between your legs and adjustability is also great. Furthermore, it does look the part: elegant and not too shouty

Durability
After a few days of use, some occasional sqeaks have appeared, but nothing major.
If anything else occurs, I will update this section.

Conclusion
The Speedmaster V2.0 has its faults, but its positive aspects more than compensate for that. And considering the price (€550 with g27, €290 without it), I can strongly recommend this kit as it's superb value for money compared with e.g. Playseats.

Edit: Since I recieved mine, Speedmaster's website has been changed a bit. They seem to have restocked and slightly improved the rig with the most notable difference being that the shifter can now be mounted on the right as well.

I'm thinking about buying one of these to replace my v1 playseat. I don't want a bar between my legs which limits me to the rennsport, obutto or speedmaster. I don't have my rig in front of the tv permanantly, so I have to drag it from the corner of the room. The obutto is 50kg, which with a T500 mounted, doesn't sound very dragable. Therefore I think I'm limited to the 30kg and very similar speedmaster.

Anyone have any other suggestions or reason not to buy one?

I've had the speedmaster for three months now and I have to say I am rather pleased with it. Here are my findings:

The cramps in my feet from the pedals have gone away; I guess I got used to it.

The squeaking has got worse. Especially when you sit down in the chair it squeaks.

Because of some easy-tightening knobs, the frame may slide apart a bit, but this is nothing to worry about, as you can just slide it back together and tighten the knob again.

I have found that the seat is a bit too high in relation to the pedals and steering wheel. It's no big problem, but occasionally my knee catches one of the Logitech g27 steering wheel clamps.

@Papaspurs: if it's on a carpet, it will very easily slide; if it's on a bare wood or stone/tile/other hard material, sliding it will hurt both the rig and your floor.

Squeaky sounds annoying.

I still think I'm gonna get one.

It seems to be the most stable of it, the obutto and the gt omega. Especially when you have a weighty T500RS on it. I think having a T500 on it will also solve the height issue as it much higher than the Logitech's.

How long did it take to arrive?

Also I think it's worth mentioning that the shifter mount can go either side now.

I can't remember exactly how long it took to arrive, but I think it was less than a week. Although it may take slightly longer for the UK than it took for Belgium...

Despatched on Friday. Not made it out of Germany yet according to the DHL website. Still should be here this week and I'll let folk know my opinion.

Rig this week, shifter next and Spec 2 the week after... splendid :)

OK, it's set up and it's amazing. I'm coming form a v1 playseat and the difference is night and day.

- It's a solid as a rock. Even wth a heavy old T500 on it.
- It's made Driving in GT easier. I'm faster
- I now feel more force feedback especially the subtle effects which were lost on the playseat.
- It's simple to set up
- It's light
- It's amazing value

Nice one . How comfy is the seat ? Does it wobble at all ?

Enjoy your Rig 👍

Only done a quick lap round the ring, but the seat seems very nice and comfy.

There is ZERO wobble. Nada. None. The design havin the supporting arms go right to the wheel plate is brilliant.

Solid as a rock. 👍

Looks very nice, but since I like to put my wheel away and don't have that much room i'm considering the Apiga ap2 still. Unless someone has a better foldable solution?

Looking at papaspurs pick again I will pass on this cockpit. Simply because I love to us the GT style pedal setup of my T500. And in this case the tubing will get in the way. :(

Apiga it is I guess. Now to save up some pennies for Christmas. $_$

My pedals are mounted in the GT style, it also supports the F1 style...

If you are interested, I REVIEWED it very recently. Both text and video are available. It is a nice option indeed.

Great review. 👍

Great review. 👍

Sorry, didnt look well enough at pic since I'm on my iPhone. I thought the black plate was there for sturdiness btw? Guess not. Hrm... Back to pondering on what to pick it is.

I've never moved the pedals to F1 style as I found that turning round the wedges behind the pedals gave me the perfect angle for the pedals.

Take the time to read through Sonac's review to help inform your decision. It really is excellent.

One point I would make (As you have a T500) is the TH8RS design means you can bring the gearstick closer (to where seems about perfect I think) despite him raising the very valid point about the shift plate being a little to far away to be comfortable. I think you'll have to not use the hard mounting option on the shifter, but that's no biggie.

To expand on the negatives.....

Negative points:
All parts are not perfectly symmetrical - Mine were
No tools included - Annoying, but I had all the bits (and my manual was in German)
Odd, rotating headrest - A little odd perhaps, but not an issue.
Shifter holder a bit too far away, when installed to the left side - TH8RS will get round this
No rubber feet on the bottom to prevent floor damage (carpet recommended)
Conditional compatibility with Fanatec wheels (drilling required) and shifters - You'll need to drill for the TM stuff too.

but those are all blown away by the positives in my opinion.
