SEASON 1 https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=177567:
For my first ever online series I decided to go with something different... something unique... then I saw that there was virtually nothing for Touring Car racers save from a few RM’d Integra’s, modified road cars and DTM V8’s... I wanted to create a series in the spirit of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), known the world over for it’s fantastic racing and competition. And thus the TOCA Series was born – named in honour of the glory days of the BTCC in the mid to late 1990’s...

So for Season 1 I assembled a small but quality grid of racers and we prepared for a fun time. There was good racing, rough racing, contact and a few spectacular moments and incidents... but people stayed in, and driftking18594 became champion with 5 wins from 9 races. The PSN Outage resulted in the end of Season 1, but now we’re back and ready to go with a new season... Season 1 was an appetiser, and we are ready for Season 2... are you?

TECHNICAL:
~4 Cars Are Eligible for TOCA Series Season 2:

bmw320itouringcar.png

BMW 320i Touring Car:
The BMW only appeared in a couple races in Season 1, but showed promise. Whilst without testing it wasn’t the fastest, it was consistent and also kind on it’s tyres. With a little more practise and setting up, there’s no reason why BMW cannot be victory contenders in Season 2.

hondaintegratouringcar.png

Honda Integra Type R Touring Car:
The Honda was a difficult car is S1. Undeniably fast, but horrible on it’s tyre’s. This meant that the Honda’s often shone and lead the way early on before dropping back. However, after a Season getting used to the car, maybe lessons have been learned. Anyone who master’s the car’s set-up is a sure-fire title contender.

lexusis200gt1.png

Lexus IS200 GT-1 Race Car:
The Lexus was a very rare sight on track in S1, but showed glimpses of potential, running well but often getting shoved off by other cars. The Lexus has a vast untapped potential owing to the fact that it was not far off the pace without upgrades – the car does not come with a customisable transmission or racing suspension kit, but special rules concessions allow it to race with it. Maybe this is a chance for Lexus to shine?

mazda6touringhcar.png

Mazda 6 / Atenza Touring Car:
Mazda arguably had the best package in Season 1 – 4WD giving incredible handling and acceleration, a chassis that made the most of the car’s intimidating frame. And there is that rotary growl reminiscent of the 787B Le Mans car. Mazda just may have the best chance at victory.

~All car’s must be in stock trim except for the Lexus IS200 GT-1, which is allowed Racing Suspension and Racing Transmission to bring it in line with other car’s. GT Auto changes (oil change, car wash, engine overhaul, chassis overhaul) are allowed.

~Car Set-up changes are allowed (Aerodynamics, LSD, transmission, etc)

~Racing Hard tyres are mandatory - No sports tyres allowed.

~All driving aids are disallowed with the exception of ABS – which is allowed at level 1

~In a new rules tweak, cars must run with a minimum weight of 1100 kilogram’s.

~Maximum BHP is 276

RACE MEETING:
~Events are held in my Lounge.

~Events are run of a saturday.

~The Lounge opens at 7pm British Time.

~Practise / Qualifying is one session, open from when the room opens.

~Drivers will have 30 minutes to set a time to determine grid order for Race 1. Please remember that if you set a time, quit to the main session screen, and re-enter your time is wiped. So if you are happy with your time stay in the garage.

~Race’s will be run from a standing start.

~Race 2 and 3 are reverse-grid events.

~Between races there is a 10 minute-interval, set via the automatic countdown.

~Set-up changes between races are allowed.

~Penalties are off

~Damage is limited

DRIVING STANDARDS / ETIQUETTE:
~ This is touring car’s so bumping, rubbing and small taps are par for the course. But excessive and deliberate moves across half the track to take someone out are disallowed. Remember – be hard but fair.

~ Drivers are not allowed to repeatedly block one another.

~Any incidents will be reviewed by me and others, as I will have all replays saved. Warnings and Points Deductions will be handed out if necessary.

~Kerb cutting is allowed if you have 2 wheels on track. However I appreciate at a track like the Nurburgring’s final chicane with its movable barriers this may be more difficult to implement.

CHAMPIONSHIP:
~ We will use the the BTCC Points System that we used in Season 1: 15-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1

~Pts will count for all 24 races.

OFFICIAL 2011 SCHEDULE:
01 - Nurburgring Nordschleife (Change Time) (21 May - RACED)
2 LAPS / 25.9 MILES

Season 2 kicks-off with an event originally intended as the climax for Season 1, and it’s no easy task. The Nurburgring Nordschleife is the most daunting circuit on the planet stretching for 12 miles through the Eifel Mountains. That in itself is a daunting challenge, but the races are at different times, with varying light levels... One thing is certain... the winner will need skill and luck to conquer the “Green Hell”.

02 - Monza (Change Weather) (28 May - RACED)
6 LAPS – 21.6 MILES

Monza is a truly legendary circuit, steeped in history. It is also incredibly fast, with three chicanes and the tricky Parabolica the only corners that involve braking. Victory here will go to the tactician, who can maximise the power of the slipstream and out-brake and out-manoeuvre his opponent. Of course possible weather changes throw another factor into account...

03 - Madrid Mini (4 JUNE - RACED)
16 LAPS – 21.12 MILES

A small triangle of roads around Madrid make for an interesting race. Thats the least you can say with narrow streets, large lanes, 3 totally different corners, kinked straights and high kerbs. A brave driver will slipstream and outbrake to victory. A fool will over drive their car into the barriers. Precision is key.

04 – Cote D’Azur Monaco (18 JUNE - RACED)
10 LAPS – 20.8 MILES

Monaco is an Iconic circuit, the millionaire’s playground. But in Touring Car’s the slightest glimpse at a casino or yacht will put you in the barriers around this two mile labyrinth of streets. Solid walls and tyres punish you. Monaco is a track where only supreme skill and car control brings you victory.

05 – Tsukuba (25 JUNE)
16 LAPS – 20.32 MILES

Tsukuba punishes tyres. Even with two less laps than last year. Short, but twisty and narrow, a rhythm is important here with limited track space. Overtaking is risky but S1 saw 3 abreast racing that worked successfully, so it is possible... Of course sometimes it isn’t, and so an encounter with a very hard wall is also possible.

06 – Indianapolis Road Course (DATE TBC)
8 LAPS – 20.88 MILES

Half oval, half infield makes for a set-up headache as the series heads stateside to the legendary Indianapolis circuit. Do you pursue speed but lose stability under hard braking and twisty corners? Or set-up nicely through turns but be left in the slipstream of a rival? Mastering the set-up is key to success at Indianapolis.

07 – Laguna Seca (DATE TBC)
9 LAPS – 20.16 MILES

The TOCA Series has to negotiate the notorious corkscrew for what could be a championship deciding round of the series. Laguna is narrow, and sand traps punish mistakes dearly. Judge your move carefully, and wait for the time for the strike – for it could win or lose you the championship.

08 – NURBURGRING GP/D (Date TBC)
9 LAPS – 20.34 MILES

A wide straight... enough for five abreast... into a sharp hairpin. Carnage at the hairpin is guaranteed as the championship finale rolls into town. Also this track punishes tyres, and set-up is a tricky mix of speed and acceleration. Who will win Season 2 – we will have to wait and see...

Not a very good hour for me depending on the day...
Put me down for now in the BMW, if i can't make it, i'll leave my spot for others...

Epic title post Furi! 👍

I've always fancied the BMW, so that's my choice. What are the the allowed spec's for it?

edit- Just read your post properly :D

Does stock trim mean no set up changes, or does that just refer to power and tyres?

Power and tyres. No turbo's or custom exhausts. You run with what you buy (slightly different rule for Lexus though). So suspension amd aero tuning etc, is ok.

Surprised you have not noticed the new weight limit and the fact I have ditched the Toyota yet...

^ I've noticed. 👎

I think the Honda is the best. Remember how I just came in to the series and set pole in about 30 minutes of tuning? With a proper tune it will be a monster...... for one lap.:ouch:

It's lightning quick at race start's. Having said that, I kill my tyres with my driving style. The new Base weight is supposed to even things up a bit, and bring it slightly closer to real touring car regs.

I lol'ed at the bit about the lexus. Count me in with it again for sure as it is the only touring car i've got right now. :)

The Integra is fast, but kill its front tyres to fast. I just hope I can get the BMW for the season start. Another good car is the mazda. The grid for this season is more even, we are going to have a great championship.

See I would race in this but to me there's not a huge variety of car choice. Can you not do teams aswell

I may run an unofficial Makes Championship - Top 2 drivers per make in pts = Manufacturers Overall Pts?

With a bit more Testing I do reckon that the Lexus will be fast.

DiegoC1980

I have a spare BMW Diego that I can send you when PSN goes back up...

This series is exactly what I've been looking for. Count me in. Lexus.

Welcome!

Count me in. Really enjoyed the racing in season 1. Gonna stick with the Mazda for this one too.

Good to have you back Boyce. That Mazda is deadly fast...

Of course, whilst there is no "teams" as such, feel free to discuss set-ups here or via PM (That's what me and Diego did all last season).

8 Entries now, 8 Left. Anymore extra will go onto the reserve list.

What do you guys think of the changed schedule as well by the way? Madrid Mini will be a fun race... and Laguna Seca I look forward too.

Couldn't you maybe add some Premiums into this? Those cars aren't particularly the easiest to find. I don't have any of them personally...

If PD added Premium touring car's that would be good. But at least these are closely matched cars that are proven to provide close racing. Also these are competition cars, not modded road cars. Cycle through the UCD long enough and you will find them... And If I find any spare I will pick them up to send to anyone in need.

Thing is, this ballast is a new tactical trick, as I am going to allow people to move it in the car, so we could have two Mazda Atenza's with 30kg extra ballast, but that could influence handling depending on where it is placed.

Tyre wear and fuel use is still on as well, and the limited damage. That worked better than I expected in Season 1...

What does the Silvia RM go down as in your book? That could work with maybe a bit of power limiting.

NSX RM could maybe work, Clio Trophy maybe too.

I'm trying avoid power limiting, and I chucked out FR cars after Season 1 (Toyota Altezza had 300 bhp, was 1000kg like the Silvia, and 4 seconds a lap quicker around the Cape Ring inside... So Im trying to limit the chances of that happening again. Hence the weight changes as well. The Silvia is more of a GT300 car as well really

EDIT: The NSX is a GT, and the clio was considered for season 1 but was way too fast.

Fair enough then. I was going to also say Spoon S2000 Race Car may be a possibility...but that's basically a Honda so yeah. The S2000 LM may have been a possibility as well...

History lesson. This is the BTCC TOCA era at it's height. This is what Season 1 and this season are meant to encapsulate. Close hard racing in big cars, paint swapping, thrills, spills, but professional driving and car control as well.

S2000 is a GT Car. See above video for a definition of a classic Touring car...

Well if you insist...although Japan might just say otherwise.

I think I'll pass this since there's no way I can be bothered to wait for the cars coming to my UCD. Also I've wasted enough money while PSN is down as it is... :)

Also I see a Primera on the video. We totally need to do one of these on GT2 :D

If they do appear they are about 150,000cr. Well worth it though.

I look forward to the Nordschleife though... different weather, and times. We won't have a night race, but maybe a morning event (10am) Afternoon (3pm), and Evening (7pm). Make for great photo's as well...

Wow. Great video. Reminds me of Codemaster's Toca 2. What a great game at the time. :)

Any ideas of the day of the week you'll run this??

Didn't seem to find it in the thread.
