Has there been any discussion to help organize the gt5 racing section? The sheer number of series and clubs proves to be quite daunting. I have some ideas but I do not know how difficult it is to implement them. I'll follow up with this thread when I get to a proper keyboard.

Are you looking to join a league or club? I dint see anything wrong about the online racing forum, although maybe if it was split up into present and archive sub-forums (like the WRS) it would be better.
If you want to join something, send me a PM. I'm in there quite a lot, and even though I'm only in a series or two, I would be able to tell you the successful ones from the unsuccessful ones.
If you want, send me a PM saying what kind of series you want to run.:)

I have my hands full as you can tell from my sig. There's plenty of quick people but since you mentioned about splitting I'll assume that you can see some type of improvement in the organization.

On that note I totally agree that there has to be an archive of past/retired championships.

I think there should also be a differentiation between a CLUB and a SERIES.
-A club is a group of people to drive at set times with a certain set of criteria to follow. No points
-A series follow a similar criteria but uses a points system to determine a WINNER.

Some kind of regulation to the number of series should be implemented accompanied by a certain criteria to follow when implementing a series or club.

What I'd like to see is a system to be implement with the following steps:
1. Post a gauging interest thread(in a GI sub forum) to first draw in a number of racers. I personally think a minimum of 12 racers should be set
2. After enough interest is generated then the series will be officially posted in a sub forum labelled SERIES or CLUB, depending on what the organizer is aiming for.
3. If a series is to retire, set that thread aside to the archived threads.
3a. If the series/club dies off, send it to the archived.
3b. If a thread is has no replies for X amount of days then it's to also be archived.

This may seem like a bunch of work but I think a place where a person can sit and scroll through a more organized forum would make life a bit easier. A major downside is that an admin has much responsibility in this.

I'll add more in to this when I get back from watching Pirates of the Caribbean.

I think some sort of calendar would be great. Most people are looking for a series or club that fits their schedule. It can take quite a bit of reading just to find race times in some threads. If someone created a calendar that listed both club meeting times and series races that would be awesome.

That's an interesting idea - a community calendar is already available, and I can see where it could be very useful if targeted for online racing events.

That would be. A sticky with a link to said calendar would be awesome. However I don't think it should be a free-for-all type of calendar and some kind of regulating process should be followed.

Just throwing ideas out there since we can all agree that section is a hot mess.

We definitely need organization in there. It's so hard to distinguish between series and that's coming from someone that goes in there everyday.

An archive sub is really necessary. We don't really need two subs for clubs and championships just tags like in the marketplace. One tag for club style series, one for championships and one for "gauging interest" threads.

I think it's a simple fix and will go miles in helping people get their series organized and more apparent in purpose.

Hope something can be done. Thanks for posting filp 👍

I think the problem with having a community calendar would be if everyone could add to it. The main reason the online forum is a hot mess is because of all the different interest and "series" threads that don't pan out.
So my question would be what would the criteria for making it onto the calendar? Would the series have to be moderator approved or what?

Also, there are a couple series that have a habit of creating multiple threads. One for just about every race, I believe. Which definitely clutters up page 1.

I agree with wardez as to having an archive sub and tags. 👍

This.

Also, can we create a sticky thread that sets a certain amount of "requirements" that people have to follow when creating an online series? Including having people post all the race information in the thread instead of linking to another site created by someone else? Like this.

Edit: I agree with Wardez about needing tags like the marketplace/rumble strip/motorsports, etc forums. 👍

A few things to be required, IMO:
-Link to OLR rules. It's only right for us to do this since we're using GTP to advertise a series and so we still have to play by a certain rule set.
-A set schedule for the races with dates, laps, and course.
-A minimum amount of drivers from a gauging interest thread to participate in a series.

- Date/time of the next race in the thread title

This forum spans the globe and people race at different times. Don't be naive and think everyone races at your specified time.

For a cup you RACE at the given time you're assigned. For a club that's a different story. Either way if you don't make it on time the party starts without you. Don't be naive and think we're going to get held up because someone can't make it on time.

I started another thread recommending dividing the online forum into blocks of time, but a calendar might fit the bill. At minimum a requirement that all series have day and time of races clearly posted in the title would help. I get discourage finding thread after thread of races that sound interesting only to discover that it's at a time that doesn't work for me

Thanks for your suggestion man. I'm glad that there are others like me who feel that an area devoted to people meeting up online should be organized better.

I'd like to bump this back up. Specifically because the online section is getting a bit cluttered, and with multiple new racing series opening every day, it doesn't take long for a thread to drop off the first page. (out of sight, out of mind)

I really think we need some way of organizing that section. It's getting worse every day.

Would two separate sub-forums help any? As an example, the Photomode section has the general area, the Competitions section, and the Galleries section for user's own personal threads.

An Online Racing board, with a general area for, say, interest checks and discussions relating to online racing, could then have two sub-forums in it, for... Spot Races, and Series, maybe? Tags could be something like "Real-Time" and "Time Trial"? I'm just tossing ideas out there, since I see what you all mean about the speed at which that section travels...

I suppose it's slightly confusing, what with having the Race Series & Time Trials board under the Online Racing banner.

^^^ This actually works perfect for me. Maybe others can chime in?

Agreed. Although I think the tags for "Spot Races" and "Series" or "Championships" would work better. Spot races would be for example, "I'm hosting a Nurburgring 500 pp event tonight - anyone can come along". It's more of a one-off event. Whereas Series are more 5+ race Championships where there's normally an assigned list of drivers who normally participate.

Another idea would be a tag for something like "Interest Checks". You wouldn't believe how many threads are created asking if people are interested in their series. They don't take off because it's evident that the person's organisation skills aren't all there* and people would prefer to join a more established championship. The person who created that interest check thread would have been better off joining a championship already created. I believe that would free up some space in there aswell. The problem with this though would be that people wanting to race wouldn't check this section as much and would rather just go straight to the "Series" tag. This would make the people creating the 'interest check' threads create some unappealing championship thread under the series section, and you're back at square 1.

EDIT: *An example. No offence to the person, but there's simply not enough information there for people to go "Ooh that looks like fun".

Perhaps a "Gauging interest" subforum along with a "Clubs" subforum. The labels are nice but it still would mean things dropping off the first page way too quickly.

Just a twist on your idea slipz, but any subforums would really help clean it up 👍

Spoke to Jordan, he knows about this thread. Still deciding what to do with the Online section, then he'll let us know.

To start off with threads could be listed in order of replies that is if this is possible, while a solution to the vast number of threads is organized.

This must be a daunting task with some 1825 threads at time of posting, sub forums, event categorise are a very good idea and work well in WRS.

I at the moment have submenus in my favourite’s folder for threads I like to keep my eye on, not a hard thing to do and you can go straight to the relevant thread without the arduous task of searching through pages of zero reply threads.

Look forward to seeing what Jordan and the admin team come up with for this section.

Phillip.

Sorry to bump this back to the top, but I'm not sure where else to post it. I think splitting up the online racing section may have done more harm than good. Seems if you don't have something posted in the main section it doesn't get much attention. Interest Checks, Spot Races seem to be a bit slow.

I know we asked for it and it's great the way it's set up now, but something doesn't seem right. :indiff:
