Lotus Evora '09

GrandValleySpeedway.jpg

This is my first time taking a tune seriously. Usually just find one here and roll with it. I went back, messed with some settings and found a tune of my own I was happy with. So, I figured why not share it? Let me know what you think and things I need to improve.

All assist turned off but ABS is 1. Tested using a SixAxis. Yeah, still don't own a DualShock 3. :dunce:

I used this tune on Grand Valley Speedway. Practice test, grip set to real, no damage.

She likes to slip the rear end out during very hard braking. I am not sure the best way to correct it. Turning and accelerating this thing is stable with tons of grip. Maybe if I add a balast in the front to make it a little more even and add a wing to the back for more downforce will add more stability when braking? I can't go too much higher with the differential.

Retest #1:
Went down 10mm front and rear ride height. Was at -2/ -10 and that cured the rear end during braking. Changed up the LSD from 42/21/31 to 12/24/24 with better results

Retest #2
Added some negative camber to the front. I went to -1.4 and wasn't happy with the results. I seemed to slide a bit while turning. I also increased dampener and anti-roll bar settings and those didn't appear to help any either so I cut those too. I am now at a loss with what to do next so I think I am done with this tune. I am happy with it as is.

**Test my tune and I will send you 5x paints of gear of your choice. I will send a FR and the car will be there to share. You don't have to buy or modify your own.

Adding a little break balance to the back might cure the back end sliding under hard breaking, try adding a little at a time until it stops. Just an opinion :)
PS: I think I'm running a 5/4 on mine

I can try again. At Deep Forest I was at 5/ 5 and I had trouble so I went down to the 3/ 0 and felt it was perfect.

I found that when ever you put more front brake and you brake hard or turn a tiny bit the rear will slide. Best thing to do is just reverse the settings, but 3/0 is crazy brakes to me. It's not braking at all on the rear wheels so your prob drifting around corners. Try more like 6/7. I'm also thinking drop the ride height a lot and LSD is usually initial lowest, acceleration highest, and brake in between, 12/45/32 for example. Those few changes you should see much faster lap times, but just keep playing around with it till you think its perfect.

Cool. I will try that LSD setting too. As for ride height, if I drop it more, I would assume I need to change spring rate. And those springs are as stiff as I want to get them. I would hit the turn and any bump would send me flying and kidding. With the rate now, I can maneuver around a corner without getting thrashed around uncontrollably.

Actually, now that I think of it, I had the LSD around those setting but I couldn't keep it under control. Maybe it was something else those that caused the problem. I do have a tendency to modify more than one thing at a time. Isn't always helpful.

your springs right now are stiff enough to handle totally dropped ride height. Higher ride height in the back makes it turn more so if it has under steer set the back higher and if it over steers set the front higher. Also the LSD numbers I gave are just and example of how usually the LSD is ordered not actual numbers you should use since I haven't tested this car out myself. Maybe add a little front camber to like 1.0 to give it a little better handling. Main thing is you never want to smoke up the tires so brake before the turn than ease on the gas coming out of it. Perfect driving is once you hit the gas you never want to have to brake again in that corner. Easing on the gas will keep you slow enough to make the turn and won't spin up the tires to the point where they go red.

OK, so I went back and tested. First, I started with the brakes only. I went 3/2 and that didn't help. I went to 3/5 and that didn't help. So, I went back down to 3/0. Next, I dropped the ride height from -2/-10 to -12/-20 and that COMPLETELY cured the back end from swinging out during braking.
But I went back and messed with the diff. I tried numbers around what you said and that started making the back end squirrelly again. Not horribly but it was enough to make me want to brake earlier and lighter. So I messed with it a bit more and found a happier medium. I went with 12/24/24 and had one of my cleanest Grand Valley Laps. I may mess with camber and toe but I think this car is pretty dialed in.

Timed Results:

Trial Mountain
Original Tune- 1:26.621
Drop Only- 1:26.079
Drop plus LSD before fine tune- 1:26.461
Unfortunately, I didn't do another few laps after I messed with the LSD some more.

Grand Valley Speedway
Original Tune- 1:51.799
Drop- 1:50.989
Drop + LSD 12/40/24- 1:50.843
Drop + LSD 12/24/24- 1:49.412

And I messed up that last turn into the grass a bit. I probably would have made it closer to 1:49.2 ish. A skilled driver could get far better.

shmogt, would you be willing to test it? I can send a FR and add it to my online sharing list. I can send some paints or gear your way for your troubles. :) Or anyone else want to test it?

Ok we can help each other out with this one. I'll buy an evora and keep it stock looking and add all the parts/settings you did and test it around the same tracks you want and make any minor changes I feel it could use and all you have to do is ask this question in my garage and than when I release the tune you do a review on it. That way you get the car setup for those specific tracks and my garage gets more attention. Click my sig for my tune shop.

I am a bit lost. You will fine tune my tune and use it in your garage/ tune thread thing and when your done you want me to review it in your thread?

Just go to my thread and ask for a lotus evora tune with everything installed expect body kits or spoilers specifically for the two tracks you said. I will than create you the best evora for them and when I'm done just review if you like it or not on my page. You don't have to send me anything.

I ran the car again with a new different settings changed and I felt like the car wasn't performing any better.

Went from a neutral camber up front to -1.4 and found some skidding while turning. I then modified the dampener settings and anti-roll bar and that didn't help. Dropped the camber settings and kept the stiffer dampener settings and didn't notice any significan chances so I reverted back.

Keeping the car as is and considering this tune done IMO. Think I will create another with a body kit and spoiler and retest. Already started with a new tune, the Alpine 1600s.
