I have done enough GT playing to be able to win a hotlap in a V8 supercar. It happened a couple of months back and today it was time to cash in on that price.

The actual ride was over faster than you can take an X2010 around the Nurburgring but it was enough inspiration to keep wasting... errm... having practice time on GT5. If only my console wasn't dead....

Pics... yes I got a couple but my webserver is playing up and I can't be arsed trying to upload them anywhere else.... :-)

Soooooo.........

What car did you get to drive. And where.

Your story lacks critical details ;)

What were you wearing? How often do you drink alcoholic beverages? How many litres is one gallon? etc, etc.

Team Vodafone 888 does not approve:

Mr.Slow is taking so long time to type so I'm stepping in and post his comment.

Here is the full story:

Competition: Toshiba Hotlap 888 promotion.
Where: Industry trade show for us geeks and nerds who make a living selling and fixing computers held on the Sunshine Coast, QLD.
Format: Fastest time posted over three days of the trade show.
Winner: Mr.Slow with a 1.3 second lead on 2nd place.
How many times did I try? Twice. Once on the 2nd day and once on the 3rd day. First time i did 4 laps, second time I did 8 laps but set the time on the 5th lap.
Track: The Forest One... I hate that track so much I can't never commit its name to memory :-).
Car: Dunno... really I never thought to ask. I think it was a Zonda from looking at the ghost in my mirrors (Black with big ass wing)
Time: 1:09.423

As for the actual hot lap it was on Lowndes' 888 car. There was an unfortunate duck who ended up going through the brake cooling duct and turned itself into shredded roasted duck. The smell was of burnt hairs and lasted about 2 hours.

HERE THEY ARE CHECKING THE BRAKES RIGHT AFTER THE INCIDIENT

AN HOUR LATER THE SMOKE AND SMELL WERE STILL THERE WHENEVER LOWNDES PULLED INTO THE PITS

The car "you drove" appears to be a Holden Commodore. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

So did you make this up or not? Really seems like you would know the name of the track if you didn't.

Oh for Christ's sake!
I was being cheeky by giving you all as little information as possible to see where your collective imagination would take you. I see the mere mention of Lucas Ordonez made you turn off your comprehension skills and start dreaming... :-)

I WON A HOT LAP. Which is to say I got to be the passenger for ONE FLYING LAP in a real life V8 SUPERCAR race car (Yes it is a holden commodore with all the racing goodies) driven by one of the stars of the competition.

I never said I drove it.... geez.... I entered some random competition at a trade show I was attending for work. I didn't pay attention to the race track or the car because it was a casual thing where me and a co-worker were going from stand to stand and he said "Hey there is GT5, you play a bit, why don't you have a go?" So I Put my sample bags down had a go, got up, walked to the next stand and moved on. The next day we went back to that stand to talk to the Toshiba guys about some tablets and all-in-ones and the guy running the competition said "So and so beat your time this morning. Wanna try again?" I put my sample bags down, had a go, beat the time, got up and went over to the Epson stand to talk about .... you guessed it: Printers!

So to summarize it:

- I won a hot lap.
- It was a random competition against other people who were there for work.
- My winning time was only good enough to win THAT COMPETITION. I am sure a great number of you can beat it hands down and NO I AM NOT INTERESTED in challenging any of you. Specially because my PS3 is currently at the Sony repair centre being fixed.

Finally the morale of this thread is:

If you want your thread to get lots of replies just put LUCAS ORDONEZ somewhere in the title :-: :-)

Lawl at riding passenger in a race car, that's like watching your best friend nail your dream girl... Drive a real race car then come back and tell us about it.

...

Mom said that 1 gallon is 3.785* liter.

(* = Who doesn't know?)

It's 4.55 litres over here, which is why US-published fuel economy figures always look so meagre compared to those in the UK. God I hated having to work on Petroluem production problems, stupid units. :P

Anyway, back on topic: this was a pretty funny thread, for mostly the right reasons!

And yeah, a ride in a car is better than being nowhere near it. I was lucky enough to have been driven around a track in a road-going Audi R8 at frankly terrifying pace by some racing driver or other. Pretty sure they wouldn't have let me do that (at any kind of comparable pace), no matter how much I paid them. Anyway, it gave me more time to appreciate the ride and that glorious intake howl. :)

Hope you had fun out there, Mr.Slow! ;)

I dont know were your mom gets her figures from but a gallon here in the UK is 4.54609 litre. very near to the US measure above.

He won a hotlap in a V8 Supercar...you can't take hotlaps home with you to show family and friends, only the photos.

What the hell's with you? The guy wins what 99% of people will never get to experience & all you can do is dis him? 👎 Get a grip, dude, it was pobably an awesome experience for him.

Nice one, Mr.Slow. 👍 Hope you enjoyed... :)
