Awesome! Ive had a button panel made for a while just never finished it up and wired it to an old controller. That board looks to make.life much easier.

Where to purchase?

Wow. This is so cool! I wish i knew as much about computer science as you lol. otherwise i would have done the same thing.

Very nice work Hwangm, I've got a Derek Speare button box (track boss) on the way. Love the ingenuity you used making yours, kudos to you.

cheers guys.
@Caz sorry i am not making it to sell. as i've ran out of the Cthulu board ( bought the pcb since 2009)
however an SRK member Toodles still making them and he makes one for Xbox + ps3 as well not sure about pc.

@Left888 yeah , Derek's race king 300 is what inspired me to do and Marc bolan's thread here so can't take all the credit. it goes to Marc and Derek.

@ blaze_409 no computer science needed buddy, just a bit of imagination and wil, im happy to share so if you want to save some money maybe use a wired cheap ps3 controller and use that pcb. ( that what i used to do with all my fightsticks anyway)

thanks for the comments , really appreciate it.

PS all the ingredients (except the pcb and wiring cables)
buttons , switches, box, i think total cost is like 30 bucks without pcb.

Ah, you answered wrong......then right.

I was looking for the board :( as the box would be fairly easy to come up with.

Time to scout the pawn shops for a wired controller and invest in a better soldering kit.

Thanks for the reply.

Again, nice work.

no worries Caz,
yeah should be a alot of wired ps3 connectors that is cheap and nice, EB games have one for like $20 bucks

BTw I 've updated the main thread with new tutorial

Here's another link on how to Connect your Frex Sequential Shift + to your Fantatec Wheel direct

For the GT3rs in GT5, I use the DFP settings before the addition of G25/27 layouts. This may have changed since the update, I've been using my T500. So I'm not sure.

The GT3rs has the "D-pad" in a very awkward and, honestly, inaccessible place.

Hmm funny, I tried that but none of the DFP functions works, that's why i created this in the first place, oh well. been using it with iracing and great fun better than keyboard

Very cool.. I tried rfactor on my laptop yesterday and could've done with this..

Does anyone else find iracing ffb crap?

I dont suppose you would post more detailed pics of your Frex Shift+ would you. I'm trying to get a better idea of how it functions and how I might replicate it.
Close up shots from underneath would be best. If you could help I would very much appreciate it.

NVM I stumbled across some pictures of the shifter on google that will do, however if you feel inclined more couldn't hurt. (Particularly the spring assembly)

One other question I have is about the box. I looked up the Cthulhu board and found it on back order so I added myelf to the wait list for it, hopefully it's not super long. If I were to just cannibalize a wired PS3 controller instead, will I be able to use the same board just a easily on the PC or do I need something different?

One last thing is about the toggle switches. Does each direction on the switch require its own terminal on the board (be it the Cthulhu, a PS controller, or otherwise) or would each switch connect to just one terminal and work in both directions?

dam that is sooo good that you could start selling it buddy. how much you think it'll cost? ;)

Sorry for late replay been lurking and racing in iRacing for the past 3 weeks, got to D license now and starting my skippy training yesterday and star mazda series.

hmm not really thinking about selling it, more of a diy one off, but any ps3 controller pcb would work.
the whole thing prolly cost me about 30-40 bucks. the PCB I can't remember bought it in 09 and still going(maybe around $40) I can't remember. for that price if you only play on pc Derek Spear's Button box is also very very cool., I got the idea from his box.
all the buttons and toggle switches are exactly the same except the sanwa button :)

sorry for the late reply, HAPPPY NEW YEAR 2012 EVERYONE,
Been on iRacing for 2-3 weeks straight, race nightly every night. so so much fun.

yeha , Cthulhu is the only one that you can use on PS3 and PC, Im not sure if you use a PS3 controller you can, unless the controler manufacturer specifically state that it can be used for PC and PS3.

Butchering a controller is easy, soldering the wire and making it stick in the pcb is the trick, I've done it before and after 2-3 month some solder points come off the PCB and ripping some electronics with it.

i really like the Cthulhu becasue of the screw points on the board and no solder . very easy wiring.

yeah abou the Frex Picture, lemme see if I can find you my picture of shot from below.
one other thing while waiting, go to ISR and see if you can paus their FRex Shift + review, they show the shifter from below quite often in that review.

no:) they are by far the closest to driving the real thing, may be you need to dial in the wheel correctly buddy.

one thing is once you dialled it in. I don't think you wan to go back to other games/sim, I tested (properly tuned rFactor) which i really love before and I am really really sad they dont' come close to it.

iRacing is the only sim that encourage you to be a better racer and driver, with their license class, butterflies every race man, it's that good:nervous:,

The iRacing force feedback is excellent and the best out there imo. Perhaps you need to check your ffb setting on both the wheel and in-game?

Quick question. If I took a G27 shifter and took it apart, and took the button panel and mounted that in a custom box, could I use that as a button box? I think it would look cool.

Please chime in.

edit: I guess it will work. this was done by one of your forum members. Looks like he just used the panel and the electronics inside.

I would love to do iracing but like all mmo type games or games where racing times are set, just doesn't go well with my lifestyle. But it's good to see you around.

@william the race is 24 hours every hour when you just started, so pick one the best suits your time. Every hour there are always people to race with and can increase your license class IF you have
No incidents.
I was lucky to pick up 1 year subscribtion during black friday for 49 bucks and im set until 2013 lol

Heres video of button box in action during InRacing News Challeng iracing running Spec Ford Racer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9BVJA9iGl4&feature=digest_mon

I made mistakes and cost me a spot almost crash and cost me the whole race.

nice vid. your gears on right side even though your in Sydney? What shifter is that?

love to see more vids.

yup frex Shift + ( Sequential) , at the moment it's on the right side, testing for comfort level and speed shift. With sequential it's no different if done left or right. but more comfortable on left now especially during manual clutch iRacing. I find skip barber 2000 with manual clutch so much faster than auto clutch :), with star mazda it's no difference as there are no clutch delay, it's just your foot gets tired after 20 laps with all the heel-toe down shift per lap lol, need more practice.. need more practice.

sorry off topic.

yea i agree, especially since i do it bare footed, sometimes i misplace my feet during heel toe and it hurts like crap

Just thought I would add to this thread for anybody reading it and getting interested in the Toodles Cthulhu board that Hwangm used in his box.

The only website I came across that has them in stock and ships from the US is here http://godlikecontrols.com/. Don't know how many they have in stock but I've just placed my order, $36 after shipping seems a much better deal than a cheapo 3rd party PS3 controller from Amazon that may or may not work on PC as well, especially when considering the apparent ease of assembly in comparison to soldering on another board.

So in case anybody has been hunting for this board like I was, here ya go.
