Welcome to the 2nd DiRT3 Event of the Week Competition. Events of all disciplines will be selected at random and all participants shall fight for the fastest time. As with the first DiRT3 EotW, this will prove a great opportunity for people of varying skill levels to learn from each other.

How it works:
-Each event will run for one week, starting every Friday at 17:00 BST (12:00 DST).
-Include the vehicle you chosen to set that time (you do not need to state which livery you picked).
-When you have a time you want to submit, you simply make a post in this thread stating the time you have set.

Rules:
-No Driving Assists are allowed, except ABS.

-There is no limit to the number of laps/stage runs you can attempt.

-Unlike the previous EotW, vehicle set-up is NOT allowed.

-Due to the fact that not everyone taking part has bought DiRT3 DLC, the event WON'T include vehicles or stages from the DLC.

-Proof of your stage/lap times is no longer required, as I trust that you'll comply with the rules. However, if I or anyone else is curious about a time that someone's set, then please include photo/screenshot proof in the form of a URL. I ask that the photo is taken on the leaderboards that includes your set time, any used assists (where there shouldn't be any), and PSN ID/XBL Gamertag/GFWL ID.

-Please DO NOT post photo proof via IMG tags. It clutters up the page.
-If there is an exploit or an unfair way to get a faster time (such as wall-riding in Rally Cross), those times will be Disqualified. I personally may not catch them, but if you do with proof of it being true, please let me know or make an announcement about it in this thread.

Hurray for NO Tuning! :D:tup:

About the exploits. It's always possible to avoid that event altogether. Just a thought I'd like to share.

I will take that into consideration when deciding on future events.

Wilk489 - MG Metro 6R4 - 0:37.976

A challenger appears! And beats me by a whole second. :grumpy:

Yeah, I only did 4 or 5 laps last night and that was my fastest time. Not too bad considering I haven't touched the game in 7 months.

0.39.247 - Ford RS200. Bit of a handful to drive, the Metro was even worse IMO.

I think the Metro is stronger on other other Rally Cross tracks really, such as Monaco. Then again, I think the RS200 is as well, so I use either of those when I race at that location.

I happen to prefer the Quattro for Aspen though, plus many of my old Personal Bests at Aspen were set using that car.

New time after putting in some more laps.
Wilk489 - MG Metro 6R4 - 0:37.774

Gonna mess around with the RS200 and the Peugeot 205(being the WR car).

My best with the RS200 is 0:37.859 and with the Peugeot 205 is 0:37.788

Both cars if I can get a great run going will beat my PB with the Metro through the first two sectors by like .200, but no matter what I try I just can't nail that last corner like I did in the Metro.

Nice stuff 👍

And that reminds me that I did miss one thing while making the OP last night. Seeing as not everyone taking part (including myself) has bought DiRT3 DLC, the event will not include vehicles or stages from the DLC.

I would have been able to top that time with the RS200 if only I didn't tap the wall :grumpy:

I think I'll give it a try with all of the Group B cars actually. I may have tested them all out before on this track, but who knows. I might even get close to beating the time I set in the Quattro last summer.

I do, however, still maintain that the Quattro is the best Group B car for this week's event, but that's just me. I'll try and get a better time up later if I'm not busy too.

Just a couple questions, this have to be a 1 lap run by yourself? Or this time trial with a set amount of laps?

Its whatever your best lap is. The OP could be a little clearer, similar the way the WRS is laid out.

I never stated that there were a set number of laps in order for you to post your fastest time, which is why I assumed no one would think that.

So yeah, you can hot-lap for as long as you want.

EDIT:
0:38.232 - Audi Quattro RallyE
0:38.293 - Ford RS200

Arrgh making that first turn after the jump is so frustrating with the RS200 since it oversteers SO happily. This game is so hard :grumpy:

I was experiencing the same problem with the RS200. I reckon I could bag a sub-0:38 if I'm lucky, but I find that the Quattro is more stable in the corners, plus the Audi's default gear ratios seem better suited to this track.

I thought I'd give this event a go. So I did a few laps and I managed:
39.106 - MG Metro 6R4, Kicker Racing livery (incase you want to know)
I know it's slow, but I haven't played in many months.
I'll give it a go without the clutch later.

So what have I learned from this event?

So far I've learned:
-you cannot steer the car while it's airborne unless you have godlike reactions to the sudden turn the car will take.
-not to rush through a turn (i.e. accelerating too much) or else you get the unwanted oversteer and before you know it, you're behind your ghost. Release the throttle a bit to avoid it should you feel it happening.
-The deciding factors whether or not the lap time will be good is all on first and last turn.

I've only managed to get the car pointing in the right direction twice as I take the jump before the first turn, but I seem to lose too much speed through the first corner as well, especially in the RS200. The oversteer problem occurred on the final turn on a few occasions, but increased throttle control sorted that out.

I think if I can nail the first corner, then I can manage to get a sub 0:38 sec time.

Just to confirm, I can't use the Lancia or Peugeot?

Those are DLC, so no.

New time.
Wilk489 - Audi Quattro Rallye - 0:37.556

Edit: Here is a video of that lap in case anyone wanted to see it. Sorry if the quality kinda sucks I took it with my phone since the youtube uploader on dirt 3 didn't want to work.

Well, that's going to be nigh in impossible for me to beat.

I'm just wondering though; what's your preferred car for this particular time trial?

I would have to say the Audi. The MG Metro seemed pretty fast I think because of the high revs, but to me it seemed like it oversteered easier when you turned in too hard unlike the Audi. The RS200 felt really fast, but either didn't turn in like I wanted or would oversteer and scrub all my speed.

Yeah, I find the that Audi is slightly more stable that the Metro, but it seems to lose out to the Audi in terms of straight line speed. The RS200 has the speed, but it just felt so unstable on this track compared to the others, although I've always considered it to be the least stable of the bunch (not including DLC).

I'm surprised that my RS200 time was so close to the time I set with the Quattro too, and I should give the Metro another go when I can, seeing as I only put in 5 laps with it just after I opened the event.

Audi has power, RS200 is light on its feet, and 6RT has nimble but very sensitive steering thanks to its shorter wheelbase.

That's what I've been getting from this game.

41.140 - Ford RS200 God I suck ass at racing games and that was after practicing all day today

Don't convince yourself that powersliding, even at a low angle is faster than gripping through this lap. 👍

What I do like is how I'm not 4th place this time :P

The week 2 event is up, guys. Have at it!

And I never had enough time to try out the Metro again on Snowmass Sprint, but oh well.
