Wheel and H-Pattern Shifter on Manual Cars

Is anyone using wheels with an H-pattern shifter and clutch actually using them on manual cars? The paddles are consistently quicker for getting the best times.
 
I cant get my clutch to activate for the life of me... But it doesn't matter the paddle is so much faster anyway.
 
i thought clutch use wasnt allowed in the academy(since their official wheel is DFGT)
also i noticed i actually shift quicker with the H-shifter.
idk.
 
I don't think clutch is allowed because only a small percentage of players have a wheel that also have a clutch pedal, which will prove to be either an advantage or disadvantage against others.
 
I dont think it will make a difference. I downloaded a German account and played in the first GT Academy several years ago, which was 350Z on Eiger. The thing to do was pause the game and switch back and forth from H pattern/clutch to paddle. It was fixed before the end of the time trials, making the shift times the same.
 
With clutch you can brake better and stabilize the car better in corner, therefore it's disabled.
 
In the game manual it says something about using a clutch, but I still can't figure it out. But it's sometimes better, because the car tends to not spin out as much during deceleration, but you have to brake harder. It's a trade off.

Unrelated, but if you use the "heel-toe" technique you'll be able to "rev-match" thereby having more control. Experts, help me out here.

This is true, except the sequential controls in GT include a time delay for rev matching and it "auto-blips" the throttle for you. The advantages of using a clutch pedal are non existent in GT5 nowadays after the severe nerfing it got from GT5:P. In fact, in the name of "equality" between manual-clutch and auto-clutch, there are a couple of infuriating issues with the clutch in GT5 (such as minimum time between 1st and 2nd, cannot engage gears if wheels are spinning etc.). Overall it is probably a disadvantage, unless the "hardware flat-shifting" still works.

It's still more involving, though. :D
 
I use the G25 and the clutch works. It's more fun at this point and I have been getting golds. But I am off from the leaders and the paddles clearly close that gap. I'll switch over later to get serious....

I thought it worked at first, until I tried just dipping the clutch to do a spin turn. Nothing happened. Unless having the paddles set up for changing gears somehow invalidates the clutch pedal? In GT5, I don't use the paddles to shift, I just did this for the Academy, remembering that the clutch had been banned before and using the paddles allowed for more consistent and faster laptimes than the stick thingy because your hands are always on the wheel and your brain's spatial processing has one less thing to worry about. Or something...
 
As long as you complete your rev match downshifting before turn in, like you should, the one handed driving shouldn't really affect anything. It's one of those whatever feels more comfortable things imo. Honestly using the paddles is going to feel weird for a car I know has a 5/6 speed :P. I like rowing the gears, but it is what it is.
 
I think the DFGT does not come with the clutch pedal. Just gas and brake. Also buy that wheel set since PS only uses that setup for anything GT related.

I agree with this. I drive no abs and use heel toe ALL the time on gt5 with my g27 in the race rig I built with the pedals flipped. Works great. I can control the car WAY better with this technique. Too bad it's not allowed in gt academy.
