Haha. I'm desperate to host something and this seems slightly novel and different.

I picked you for the Sprint Cup, myself for Nationwide :sly: and Tom McD for the Trucks.

I've been wondering how long it would take someone to do something like this. This should be a blast!

Also i've suggested the inclusion of a couple wild card events for Sprint Cup off-weeks ;)

An idea for the All-Star race. Pick one driver from each of the three races:

NW Elimination race - 1 pick (if advance, +5 points and +1 CP)**
Sprint Cup Open race - 1 pick (if advance, +5 points and +1 CP)
Sprint Cup Main Event - 1 pick

**If your NW pick advances twice to make the main event, you get +5 points and +1 CP twice.

If someone can hit a 1-2-3 using their three drivers, I say you give them something huge, like +25 points and +5 CPs on top of what they earned from the event itself. The odds are astronomical.

All fantasy points are given for final position finished in Sprint Cup All Star Race Main Event race only.

Will we have a "Chase"? Bear in mind NW and Trucks wrap up before the Sprint Cup chase?

Both will be implemented in the OP in a few minutes. Thanks guys.

I forgot about the Chase but yes.

I'm not ashamed to say that I voted for myself in two categories and my team mate, Trynor, in the other.

It's gonna be a good weekend :sly:

EDIT: I know it's not strictly GTP 'NASCAR' but how about a one off round of picks for the Indy 500?

Drop for the 500, Rich S (mustardaddict) for NW (had to choose between him Adrenaline and D4lvy :scared:) and Spurgy for Trucks.

drop for the 500, Owens for the 300 and a venom driver for the trucks 250. either joe or akmuq. eermm, well i think akmuq for the trucks :P

The odds that your 1 NW pick advances to the Open race: 6/15 = 40%
The odds that your 1 SCO pick advances to the Main Event: 6/14 = 42.85%
The odds that your 1 NW pick also advances to the Main Event: 5/13 = 38.46%
The odds that your 1 main event pick finishes in the top 3: 3/12 = 25%
The odds that your 1 SCO pick also finishes in the top 3: 2/11 = 18.18%
The odds that your 1 NW pick also finishes in the top 3: 1/10 = 10%

The odds that ALL of that happens in one single occurrence:

6/15 * 6/14 * 5/13 * 3/12 * 2/11 * 1/10 = 1080/3603600 = 0.000299, or 0.0299% of the time.

EDIT - This would happen 3 times in every 10010 sets of picks.

I wish I had your statistic skills.

Probability is fun stuff. It's great for math nerds and card players (or both).

The probability of dependent events isn't hard to figure out. Here's a basic lesson.

http://www.tpub.com/math2/88.htm

In our case, the probabilities start with a driver advancing from a preliminary race to make the next race. The Nationwide race has 15 finishing positions, the first 6 of which are positive results. Any driver's odds of advancing are simply 6 out of 15, or 40%.

Once you get to the next race, you have 2 drivers needing to finish in the top 6. The first driver can finish in any of the top 6 spots, out of 14 total drivers. The second driver can only get through by finishing in any of the remaining Top-6 finishing positions out of 13 total spots left, once the first driver's finishing position is established as being anywhere in the top 6.

Keep going, and you can figure out all the odds pretty easily.

At the end, the odds of all of those things happening is the combined multiplicative odds of all events.

See, isn't math easy? 💡

EDIT - If you want the odds of your NW pick winning the Main Event race, you would have a few conditional probabilities to calculate.

The odds that your NW driver advances out of the NW race:
6/15, 40%

The odds that a driver advances out of the Open race:
6/14, 42.86%

Combined odds of a NW driver advancing from race 1 and race 2:
6/15 * 6/14 = 36/210, or 6/35, or 17.14%

The odds that a driver wins the Main Event race:
1/12, or 8.33%

The combined odds of an Open driver advancing once (Top-6 finish) and then winning the Main Event race:
6/14 * 1/12 = 6/168, or 1/28, or 3.57%

The combined odds of a NW driver advancing twice (2 Top-6 finishes) and then winning the Main Event race:
6/15 * 6/14 * 1/12 = 36/2520, or 1/70, or 1.43%

11 different selectors have popped their picks in.

Deadline will be 7pm GMT every week.

Remember your can re-submit your picks as many times as you like. I will use your latest ones.

The Weekly B-Spec NASCAR Fantasy Shuffle Race for 10 bonus points will take place once we have 16 selectors and 16 bobs ready to go.

I didn't say this earlier, but this is a 🤬 awesome idea Chqr. Nice work dude.

I'll try and get you some points in the trucks this Friday ;)

Awesome idea Chqr.
Picks are in.

Mega thanks for all the support, folks. I just hope we can get a large field of hopefully 25-30 active selectors to get this thing really rolling.

Haha, you better Tom. I expect a win to get me some CPs :embarrassed:

Hopefully, I can cram in some more series too in the off-weeks.
