GilesGuthrie's XJ L Supersport

Wow.... I'm personally not into high end luxury cars or supercars, but this is REALLY nice. I love the color you went with. It's beautiful.

A wee bit different than the Espace and the Focus... :)

Nice car, Giles.

I have always admired the design of this car. Awesome choice Giles. Needs some Chevelle SS badges on the quarters.

Nice ride Giles! Aren't you scared the kids will destroy it? :D

Some inside shots are required. :)

Nice car Giles. Still one of the best things I've ever driven. Grey suits it too, though frankly I'd have one in any colour!

Nope, I'm calling it.

Not yours unless theres an index card with your username in the pic :)

Really? :odd:

I know we have that guideline to stop people talking porkies, but it's more aimed at people who can barely scratch together a post on the forum claiming to have a 599 GTO in the garage than it is respected members who've been on the forum for years and don't make a habit of lying...

Or is it just coincidence he's been able to take photos of the same car outside various different buildings? Maybe he just stalks the car's actual owner?...

You must be new here.

I'm a bit on/off/on/off with the new XJ. I like it, but I'd rather any of the others that aren't the XJ40. Then again... With what I've heard about the new pedestrian impact regulations, perhaps there was no way to get away with the old styling without ruining it.

Then again, Jag probably isn't concerned with my tastes seeing as there's no way I'll be able to afford a new XJ for the next 10 years short of winning the lottery.

All said though, congrats on the purchase Giles. It was my vote regardless of what I think of the styling (still a very pretty car, it's just not an XJ to me unless it has four round headlights) because, well, it's a Jaaaaaaaaag.

Which reminds me, hawkeye. Jaaaaaaaag owners cheat their taxes. They don't lie about owning Jaaaaaaaaaags.

Nice car Giles.
Good choice you made, have lots of fun in it.

Though the rear reminds me too much of this

I still like it, looks very sleek

Looks great Giles 👍 - shape hides the extended wheelbase better than most 'stretched' versions of high-end saloons too.

I actually prefer the LWB version. The roof curve looks slightly more organic in the longer car.

I'm hugely glad they didn't go with the old style still. Jaguar was digging itself into a deeper and deeper rut by trying to make all its cars look like modern interpretations of the old stuff. As design goes, "retro" is incredibly lazy.

The current XJ is an acquired taste for sure, but has presence that few other cars on the road can match - certainly kicks the stuffing out of any current Bentley when you see them on the road.

That it's also brilliant to drive is just a bonus really. And I can completely understand GG wanting the SuperSport. I've driven both the SS and 3.0 D and while the diesel is lovely... the SS is just something else. It's like Usain Bolt doing his 9.58 in a Saville Row suit.

I agree with pretty much all of that really...

But the XJ actually pulled off the retro look. I love the XF and XK but I can't help but feel that the XJ should've been the one to stay retro.

I honestly can say I don't think I'd want an XJ (or really, any big luxobarge) any other way. Keep it relatively quiet, keep it refined, but make it fast enough to overtake anything properly.

Since we know you own the car, I also need proof that the Castle is real and not a cardboard display. Thanks. :sly:

Ha! That's Dundas Castle, just outside Edinburgh. My wife would have preferred that we spent the Jaguar money on a bigger house, but I successfully stood my ground on that score!

This post is full of win, and - frankly - demonstrates that the post author has actually driven the car. The new XJ is a radical departure from previous Jaguar saloons, but to me it's more evocative of "Jaguar" than the crusty old X350.

The X351 XJ speaks back, not to Jaguar's heritage as a supplier of cars to gentlemen but as a designer of forward-thinking cars. And the more time I spend in it, the more I'm elated by my choice. It's exactly the car I wanted.
