Hey guys, I dont know if im doing the right thing by asking this but,

There's this game im playing, and it has a loading screen competition.

I Really want to try and join in.

I Have an idea on what to create but the thing is..

I Have no idea how to edit photo's and stuff..

So if anyone would kindly tell me what i need..what i should use to edit stuff..

I Would really appreciate it..

Thanks.

My carefully considered response was going to be along the lines of "You need a computer, some software, and a few years' experience." But that might be a little over the top on the sarcasm scale to answer someone's first post.

But seriously, the "I have no idea how to edit photo's and stuff" kinda limits the possibilities for a seriously constructive answer. There will be a serious learning curve, and you'll be out some coin for good software, too.

I really don't know how to point you in the right direction at all.

Still not sure if I took a piece of stinky-bait or not.

I get the feeling that account was made solely to get help after a google search. Why a video game-centric forum of all places is beyond me. I would've made a thread in photography-centric forum first.

Instigating aside, I'd get a free trial of Photoshop on Adobe. I take it you're not trying to get into the art, but merely doing this for the competition alone so a trial period software is acceptable. But before you even do that, tell us what you look to accomplish. Don't just tell us that you simply want to "know what to do" because there are so many things you can do that it'd take way too long to educate you. Post one photo you wanted to edit and tell us your end goals. From there everything is much easier.

i can advise Photo Scape programm. Its very easy, free programm, easy to use for novices and has a lot of fitches

Easy is the key I think, Photoshop in the hands of a novice is like a first day drivers ED student in an F1 car.

You don't need to know half the things on photoshop to edit a photo.

If OP really wanted help, I can list off enough options by text instructions alone.

Though I have a feeling he/she won't be returning.

Not really, all one needs to do is follow a tutorial for a certain effect they want and they'll quickly pick up the core principals behind the tools and techniques. From then on it's all about problem solving to get an effect you want. That's all I ever needed to do - I followed Donbenni's vexel tutorial, got pretty proficient with the pen tool/shading/layers/blending modes, and from that base I just built upon them with differing projects. IMO it's easier to learn PS as soon as possible rather than jumping from program to program until you move up to PS, since you'll develop certain habits and ways of working that won't be compatible with the way Adobe does things.

Adobe are giving away Photoshop CS2 for free, all you need to do is register on Adobe.com. Obviously it's pretty old now and features have improved massively over the years but it's a good starting point.

That is good to know. I wonder if they offer Imageready CS2 as well, but that's irrelevant to this.

I was merely stating a simple analogy that a novice user would not be able to use it to its full potential if they were using it for the time much like I would be in a state of confusion sitting behind the wheel of a F1 car. Sure, there is a learning curve and tutorials to help get one started. 👍

I kind of feel the same, how does one start to master Photoshop (especially adding of elements and make them blend as if they are part of the photo)

I use Paint.net but only for small GT5 picture edits nothing major

Well Actually. I Am Into ART as well. I've always wanted to try editing stuff its just that i dont have time for it with all school stuff..

Now that i graduate. Im going to start doing this kind of stuff thats why i have 0 experience.

And Im doing this for the competition because i want to TRY. It's merely to see if i can do well with editing and get other's opinion.

Hey guys, i've got this photo to edit.. and i want it to be 1024 x 768 size.

But the thing is..when i went to image size and put the width 1024 the height become 576...

How do i make it so that it became a 1024x768?

Thank you

You would have to make the height 768, which would make the width about 1366. Then you'd have to crop the width, cutting part of the picture off.

The issue is aspect ratio. 1024x768 is a 4:3 aspect, but your image is 16:9. The same difference between old TVs and newer wide-screen TVs. Your wide-screen image will not fit the 4:3 format without black at the top and bottom, or by cutting off the "overflow" at the sides. If you force it to 1024x768 you will "squish" it side-to-side and distort the image.

So, letterbox, crop, or distort. Those are your choices.

Ahh I see. So i will need to make the height 768 then crop, in other word cut part of the picture to make it 1024..?

Thank you.

But now the problem is..how do i cut it so that it will become a 1024.. . .

Sorry for such troublesome question..

So to resize images, get Windows Image Resizer. Gives yo uan option to resize images with a right click on it.

To cut images, paint is enough,...

As for editing learning, there is a thing, it's called youtube, type in the program you use and add tutorial and magical, you get 100's of videos showing you everything. Seriously :D
I've been learing most over youtube, then you try to do it yourself, find new ways, fiddle around, ...

Yeah okay, that's great and all but... we can't help you with anything until you tell us specifically what you want to do with your project. The only thing we can honestly help you with is telling you what tools can do what, but we can't say anything until we know what you're doing and what sort of problems you're running into.

If It's the photo in the other thread you could change the canvas size and increase the black areas in top and bottom to fill the taller 768 high canvas, look for a online tutorial.

Check out the Adobe website - they have tutorials 'n stuff, and I am pretty sure youtube has a bunch of em too, for people who haven't been using the program for years.

I have been using it for 10-12yrs and I still haven't learned everything. Especially since they keep adding crap. LOL
