Can anyone help?

Not used my dell Inspiron 1501 (vista) for about a year now. I seem to remember there was a system dump. Then when it got to the password login screen the keyboard or mouse pad wouldn't work so I couldn't do anything.

Thought I might of turned the keyboard off or something using a combination of keys but I don't think so.

I've been in the setup screens so many times trying to sort it so I know the keyboard works there, it's just when I get to the login screen. Very frustrating.

I've googled & googled but to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Might be a driver, it might need updating. But to do it you might need to use an external keyboard from another PC.

Worse case is a new keyboard on your laptop.

Corrupted driver maybe?

Try Startup Repair.

Thanks dice. Gonna try that now.

Have you tried a USB mouse and keyboard?

Yeah. Tried that. Thanks anyway!

OS problem. Can you set it back to factory settings or run a repair system by using F11 or something.

Right. I've had a boot up from the boot disc. I've run a diagnostic thing. All I've come up with is a keyboard error. error 4e2c

Thing is keyboard works fine in setup/bios modes but as soon as it gets to windows, it stops working. S'bloody stupid!!

It means it's only a windows problem. Setup and recovery software load their own drivers. I'm pretty sure the error would be something like a missing usb driver. This can be fixed by running a repair from the OS DVD.
