Hello all and welcome to 38's Race Night, hosted by MGD_Racing_38.

If you're looking for intense, close racing, in a variety of cars on all different tracks, you're in the right place.

Races are every Wednesday starting at 9PM ET and will go on until we don't feel like racing anymore. The practice lounge will always be open, just set the room as posted below so that you're practicing under racing conditions. The more people in the practice rooms the better as getting used to each other is key.

For anyone that's already read and understood the following, you may skip to our forum for details regarding the next race.

38's Race Night is a spin-off of the DeadNutsEven racing club's weekly events. Feel free to click on that link for information regarding DeadNutsEven and how they came about.

What Do We Race and What are the Targets?

Each week we'll be racing different cars at different tracks based on the Seasonal Events found on your GT Home screen in GT5. Season 1 will consist of all of the first races from each of the Seasonal Events posts as of the time of this writing. I will be updating our upcoming events as quickly as I can to ensure all will have ample time to prepare their cars for the race. Determination of time and speed will be based on running in the Seasonal Events themselves in most cases (there will be some exceptions).

Pick any car in the class, hit the track online, and fine tune it until you are just reaching, but not exceeding the target time and below the max speed. If you can't meet the max speed ceiling, you may need to go to the softer compound or pick a grippier car. Bring your car to the MGD_Racing_38 Lounge and race, simple as that. I will set up the MGD_Racing_38 Lounge to reflect the next race immediately after the current event has concluded. All practice should be done in the MGD_Racing_38 Lounge. If you enter the Lounge and no one else is there, set the room to eliminate all Aids Less ABS, Tire Wear should be off, Damage Off, Slip Stream Weak, and Grip Reduction set to Real. Practice AND racing will be done without tire wear and fuel consumption due to the wide array of cars and tire compounds allowed to be used. The goal is for the tightest racing possible and tire falloff and forced pits for softer compounds would defeat the purpose, as would limiting the cars you can use by restricting the compounds allowed. There will be two heat races consisting of 10 laps each to give you a chance to fine tune your car for handling in traffic, be sure not to exceed the target time! There will be one, possibly two main events consisting of 20 to 25 laps depending on track length and car type. Racing starts at 9PM ET sharp. We'll probably race for 1-2 hours on a typical night. - (partially from DeadNutsEven, edited for our use)

Your submitted lap time should be your absolute fastest time in a session of no less than 20 laps where you are over or equal to the target time and under or equal to the speed limit on EVERY LAP. If you exceed the limits at all, you MUST back out, adjust your car, and start again. This will ensure that you're not going to run faster than you're supposed to!!! Just because you ran 5 laps and came pretty close, isn't good enough. In all honesty, you should be running dozens of laps AFTER your tires have warmed up, and made absolutely sure you're not going to exceed the time and speed limits posted. If you habitually offend these rules, you'll be asked not to return. THIS IS A MUST FOR THIS TO WORK!!!

If you win one or both of the main events, I will send you a Prize Car Ticket from my collection. If we run two main races, the winner of Race 1 will receive a car that night, the winner of Race 2 will receive a car the following day. If I win one or both races, I will award a Ticket to the second place finisher. So aside from getting the great racing you've craved your entire GT5 career, you get a Prize Car Ticket too!

Which Cars Are Best?

While you can choose any car, we suggest you choose cars you can run consistent laps with. Make no mistake, this is the type of close racing you have been searching for your entire GT Series career so you'll want a ride that's consistent and easy to handle.. We want everyone to be in the mix and have a shot at a podium or victory but at a bare minimum be able to mix it up in traffic with confidence and control. - DeadNutsEven

You WILL be as Fast As Everyone Else on the Grid

Also from DeadNutsEven - Good rules make for good racing so we generally follow the GTP Online Racing Rules. In a nutshell, the OLR's provide a standard set of rules for passing, blocking etc. and what to do in the case of contact. We are a courteous bunch. We race hard but we race fair and clean. If you cause contact and impact another driver’s race, we expect you to pull aside when it’s safe and let them regain their position. Running two wide is a common occurrence in MGD racing and we expect you to be prepared to do so if you choose to do it..

When all the cars run the same lap times as they do here, your absolute level of skill, becomes meaningless. In 38's Race Night, it's good racecraft that lays the groundwork for enjoyable racing and often leads to the podium. Good racecraft means knowing your limits and sticking to them, knowing when to pass and when to back off, searching for a weakness in an opponent and setting up a pass several corners ahead. WE GUARANTEE YOU'LL BE AS FAST AS EVERYONE ELSE ON THE GRID!!! We eliminate your skill deficit (or surplus for you faster drivers) allowing you to compete based on your ability to out guess and out think your fellow drivers, not on your innate or learned skill level.

You'll find more detail about our approach to racecraft here, courtesy of VBR. If you investigate this link and it meets your approval, I suggest you post on the thread to thank VBR for his work:

Between now and 7/17/2013, 38's Race Night will not be taking on new recruits. We have a major event coming up that requires the utmost care be taken and a high knowledge of each other's driving styles will be a must. After the event concludes, we will be allowing more people to join.

Thank you for your understanding,
