Stewards Notes
As we did with the last rain race we had, we're setting Grip Reduction to Low, instead of our normal value of Real. Doing this makes the drive fairly similar to the offline time trial.

Eligibility

This WRS-Online event hosted by 3D3 Racing is open to GTP_Registered members only. If you are not currently on the registry run the GTP_Registry qualifier and join now!

Registration Instructions

The following must be performed by every driver for every event:
  • Click the registration button above, fill-in and submit the online registration form (use your GTP_ tag ID)
  • Leave a quick note in this thread to let us know you've registered and any other comments.
The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):
  • Send a PSN friend request to GTP_3D3Racing, GTP_3D3_A and GTP_3D3_B from your GTP_tag account.
  • Submit the 3D3 Racing Online Driver Database Entry Form. Your information will need to be verified before you are added to the db and before your ID will appear in the registered driver table above. You can view the official driver database here.

There is a 32 car/driver limit for this event (per region) and slots are awarded on the grid using a first come first serve basis. Reference the registered drivers table above for availability. This is a stand alone race and points are not tallied for a series. Future WRS-Online races hosted by 3D3 racing may have different driver limits and will require re-registration using the same first come first serve basis and participation in future events is optional.

Registration Changes

If you want to change your time slot, add a time slot or update your color choices just click on the registration link and fill out the form again and submit with new values. Your last entry will override any previous entries.

Cancellations

If for some reason, after you register for the event, you are unable to attend please click the registration button above and complete the form again selecting "cancel" as your status. Please also post a note in this thread as the table above can take some time to update.

Delaying or Restarting Race Start

Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will only be restarted in these cases:
  • Multiple drivers report a black screen/hang, instead of the 3-2-1 countdown.
  • One or more drivers get disconnected before race-pace has begun ("GO" for grid-starts, end of formation lap for rolling starts).
  • Steward realizes there is a condition that would lead to an unfair or poor race experience.

Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will explicitly NOT be restarted for:
  • Latecomers, even if you've registered
  • Driver realizes he picked the wrong car parts (ie, tires) or driving options (ie, Auto tranny)

Qualification Procedures

  • Type: Live Online Single Stint - No pits
  • Length: Single out-lap and 2 timed hot-laps.
  • Groups: Group qualifying will be used if the grid size is large enough to warrant in order to avoid traffic during qualification.
  • Notes: Drivers not in the lounge by the time the first driver has entered the track after reset will not be allowed to qualify. They are welcome to join the race, but will start at the back of the grid. If we are running multiple qualification groups and the driver enters before the last group has entered track an exception will be made.

Formation Lap

  • A steward will exit track, view the live timing monitor and announce the order after qualification while all drivers remain on track.
  • All drivers should exit track after the order is announced and enter the pits. When all drivers are in the pits a steward will start the race.
  • After the system places you on the grid drivers should proceed into stagger formation in order.
  • Pole sitter will choose his/her preferred side of the track.
  • There should be no overlap between cars in the staggered formation.
  • Speed limit on formation lap is 62 mph / 100 km/h and pole sitter should maintain this speed (or less) to keep pack together, in particular in the final sector.
  • Weaving or other tire warming procedures are NOT allowed during the formation lap.
  • Pole sitter will exit the last corner and take care to give enough time to allow all cars behind to safely exit the final corner.
  • Start marker for Eiger Nordwand Short Course/Weather Change is the start/finish line.
  • The pole sitter should start the race by accelerating to race pace at the identified start marker (track specific and may or may not be the start/finish line).
  • All other drivers should accelerate after the driver in front of you does so.
  • No passing is allowed before the start marker.
  • Be cautious and courteous in the first turn. Dive bombing will be penalized and will not be tolerated.

Pit Entry and Exit Guidelines

  • Pits are open and stops are optional, but may be required to complete the race based on fuel consumption and/or tire wear.
  • Drivers are responsible for determining their fuel consumption, tire wear and ultimate pit strategy. Discussion of this strategy in the thread is encouraged but not required.
  • Be aware that when "Tire Wear/Fuel Consumption" is set to "Fast" or "Very Fast" that the system's fuel add recommendations will be wrong. In this case you need to do your own testing and calculations prior to the race to ensure you add the proper amount of fuel to make it to the end of the race.
  • On exit from the pits stay to the pit exit side (usually right side) of the white line if there is oncoming traffic.
  • On both pit entry and exit, traffic not entering/exiting the pits must stay to track side (usually left side) of the white lines and are not allowed on the pit entry/exit except to avoid collisions. Drivers cannot follow another driver entering the pits into this area to draft and cannot drive into the area to avoid being drafted if they are not pitting.
  • Remember, traffic on course has the right of way after the white line ends. Drivers that cross the line in either direction are responsible for any incidents that occur.

Track Boundary Guidelines
Drivers are expected to do their best to stay within track boundaries per the OLR. Mistakes happens over the course of a long race and the random off or two will be overlooked in most instances, but if a pattern of boundary abuse is observed penalties will be handed out which include 15 seconds for a "minor" pattern of abuse, 30 seconds for a "substantial" pattern of abuse, and a DQ for "complete disregard" of track boundaries. In cases where penalties may not impact the driver (e.g. DC), the penalty may be carried over to the next event and may be applied as a 5 (minor) or 10 (major) grid spot penalty.

It's up to the admins' discretion exactly what qualifies as "minor", "substantial" or "complete disregard". Going outside the rumble by a centimeter isn't as serious as a car length wide excursions into the run off area. Factors such as dirty air and traffic also come into play. If you find yourself going wide then the next lap you're expected to slow down a bit more to make sure you stay within boundaries. If you make the same mistake multiple times and you want to avoid a penalty you can always self-penalize during the race by lifting for a very brief period upon returning to the track. Continuing to hammer the throttle after repeated boundary overruns may very well end with a post race penalty.​

General Guidelines:
  • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • Runoff areas are not part of the track including green painted concrete.

Standard Clean OLR Rules Apply:
  • Unless otherwise specified, all rules from the original WRS event apply.
  • You are expected to drive clean at all times as if you are racing in the WRS. All participants are required to follow the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines.
  • 3D3 Race Stewards (who are taking part in race, but will review the replay) reserve the right to kick out or invalidate the result of any driver from the Race Room for driving offensively. If you ignore any warnings from the stewards and are kicked out of the race room, you will not be allowed to participate in future 3D3 events.
  • No hybrids - if you're caught using a hybrid or attempting to enter a hybrid onto the track during an official event you will be banned from all future 3D3 Racing events.
  • No cheating of any kind
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • Passing and Blocking: Aggressive blocking is not permitted, but the driver in front has the right to choose his/her line and braking point and drivers behind should respect that line. Be especially careful when you are on older tires than the competition as the speed difference may be significant. These events are "for fun" so just play nice and take a conservative rather than an aggressive approach when possible.

19:04: 7 drivers in the lounge... holding quali a few mins for connection issues/lag
19:10: qualification has started. (it's snowing :sly:). best practice lap in warm up was 1:13.483 by speedy (JTV had to exit)
19:13: Speedy's first lap is 1:15.0 so he'll want to improve on that. (Hard to see stream with dark/snowy conditions)
19:15: 2nd lap was 13.84 Nice:

19:18: Race timer is started. Good luck! Close qualifying between 2-4!!!
19:25: After 4+ race laps speedy is about 5 secs back with Ren on his bumper... Bart and Phillie bumper to bumper in front and pullling away slowly but steadily.
19:30: After 9+ race laps Bart creating a little separation from phillie, Speedy holding gap at 7-8 secs, JTV moved up 2 spots. Ren just behind Speedy.
19:40: After 16+ Ren made a mistake and dropped back, JTV now on Speedy's bumper for 3rd. Bart continuing to pull away. Ren and Shawn look to be close for 5th.
19:41: Phillie made a mistake.. Speedy is on him. JTV 1 sec behind. Battle for 2nd is on now.
19:42: To avoid battle between speedy and phillie, JTV pits early. speedy's fronts are between 50% and 60% tread left. Speedy takes 2nd, back 14+ secs from Bart.
19:45: Lap 20 (including formation) Speedy pits, comes out just ahead of JTV and phillie. 3 are within 1 sec. Bart pitting ahead.
19:48: Lap 23. Speedy and JTV locked in back and forth , side by side battle for 2nd. Bart pulling away in lead. Phillie in 4th by about 2-3 secs, but closing.
19:52: Lap 26: Amazing three way battle for 2nd between JTV, Speedy, Phillie (in that order).
19:56: Lap 29: ditto... Speedy right on JTV... Phillie right there too... good stuff!
20:00: Lap 33: Speedy has more pace, but can't get by JTV and gets caught by Phillie when held up... then drops back and JTV gets away... JTV has slight gap now.
20:06: Lap 37: Speedy on JTV again, back to above... can't get by. JTV is a hard man to pass.
20:08: Lap 39: Couple mistakes by Speedy, Phillie got by and is on JTV's tail. speedy right there.
20:10: Lap 41: Speedy caught some dirty.. Phillie and JTV away a bit... still very close between those two for 2nd on last lap.
20:12: Finish: Bart won... JTV held onto 2nd. Phillie 3rd, Speedy 4th.

I'm planning to race. I'll test out my new setup with my router this weekend to make sure it works. I'm struggling with this combo this week, so I'll be interest to follow some of you faster guys around.
 
Haven't tried this Combo yet.
Curious to see how this one handles in the rain though.
 
When you say grip reduction to off, does that mean we are using the setting called low not real? I am guessing yes, as most times that setting is set to real. I just want to make sure as running in the rain with grip set to real is alot different.

Note to self (and anyone else) dont forget to change your Torque Distribution, using RA functions. I plumped for 45:65 in the end as I found 50:50 or even 40:60 wears the front tyres out quicker than the rears. Didnt have a chance to test fuel depletion really though. Im thinking 1 or maybe 2 pitstops?

I tried different torque settings and found in 6 laps with a higher rear wheel torque the fronts were gone, I mean nothing showing on the tire gauge. A 50/50 torque setting got me 5 laps and I got to the pits with no tread. Unless I am doing something very wrong, I am looking at 6 or 7 pitstops. I was using a BB of 5/5. The room was set to tire wear fast, which is what the race regulations show.

That's much different than Al and I got in testing this, using Racing Rain tires. We tried on a Surface Water=50% track as well, and still were able to get > 10 laps out of it. When Al tested the current regs, 100% Surface Water, 100% Weather, 0 Changeability, Grip Reduction Low, Fast Tire/Fuel, he got 10 laps and reported 75% tire life left.

I can't jump on to help test, but if you're correct we'll have to change the tire/fuel setting, because we obviously don't want folks doing that many pitstops on the longest pitlane in the game! :lol:

Once you pass 50 sometimes things are not as they appear, maybe I was doing something way wrong. I am going to set up my lounge again and see what happens this time.
 
I'm running in 3d3 main with the surface water set to 100%, but when you go on track, it says 0%. My first lap was as fast as my tt. Any suggestions? May explain Patrick's tire wear situation as well.

Edit: (we're going to try room A and see if we have the same issue)

edit 2: same issue in room. The track is set up correctly, but it's not wet. Also, it looks like snow, as it is not falling in a uniform direction.

I went to my own lounge and used the race settings and the surface was 100 % wet (tire wear what Al reported) . In the 3d lounge where I met Gman the settings were correct but showed 0% surface water. That would explain my poor tire wear I saw when I tried a few hours ago (I did not look at the water surface indicator) . I have no idea why the settings work for me in my lounge but not in 3D lounges. I also agree with Gman that the precipation looked more like snow, not what I saw in the time trial.

In the 3d lounge where I tried earlier, I saw the same thing as gman, settings for 100 % wet, but when you start race the reading shows 0 %. That would explain my very poor tire wear I saw earlier. I have no idea why the 3D lounges are doing that, but do not in my lounge.

Is the default track for your lounge set to a different track? Maybe we need to change the default track in the 3D3 lounges?

I tried leaving changeablity to 10,set the %, then go back and change changeablity to 0,and that worked once in A, but not in main. In main it went to 50%, then back to zero. Not sure what's going on, as it doesn't sound like the EU practice had any problems.

I did not have default set to Eiger, I chose it once I got into my lounge. Strange.
 
Ugg, I should have mentioned that Al and I saw this as well, and our workaround was to choose another track, and then switch back to Eiger Weather. Usually it only took one flip-flop like that to get it to show 100% surface water instead of 0% (or some other random number you didn't choose!).
 
Sorry for allowing you guys to think you were crazy. :dopey: For a little while, at least. Just another of this game's weird weird quirks that we put up with because we are crazy...for it.
 
The water surface issue could have been why Patrick only got 5-6 lap stints.
Running Racing rain tyres on a dry track. :irked: :lol:
