At the moment, the data from online replays are just recorded as is, so when you watch them back you see exactly what happened from you own point of view including all the lag events (big or small). The further someone else is away from you on track, the less information is recorded, resulting in very jerky looking cars when viewing the performance of others.

I would like an in-game option to be able to smooth out the replays, a clever interpolation program if you will, so that after processing there's less lag. Or maybe everyone's replays could be automatically uploaded into the online lobby after the race, & the game would then render 1 composite replay with no lag whatsoever. Then we could simply choose to download our original replay, the interpolated one, the composite one, or all three.

It would make videos of online racing uploaded to You Tube of much higher quality. It would also make it easier for race stewards to see whether an incident was because of an accident or lag, as they could compare multiple versions of the same race. And, watching replays of online races would be a much better experience all round.

What do you think?

Alrightly then...err...yeah...uh huh...it's just me then?

As much as I like your idea (:) 👍), I don't think the PS3 has the hardware capabilities to achieve such a task. Maybe GT7 will be able to do so on the PS4. Of course, I could be wrong...

It doesn't have to happen on the fly, so it would be very much possible.

Agree with the OP. The idea is great. Cars look really awkward when they're far away from you in the replays. And it probably is possible, but it use quite some resources.

We need an "Ask PD" section on the GT website.

That what the Feedback section of GTPlanet was for upon GT5's release. Hopefully Jordan brings it back when GT6 is released

I've spent a little bit of time considering what effort it might take to create a 3rd-party tool that could do just this, given all the replays from each driver. With a sufficient level of understanding of the file format, it seems possible, but the pain of getting all the replay files in one place seems like the deal-killer. It's an excellent idea, though. I hope some progress is made.

I would hope that PD realizes that making it easier for us all to upload quality vids to Youtube or other video sharing sites facilitates free advertising for their game.

There's been a LOT of times where I was side-by-side with someone, and lag caused a large sideswipe, causing one or the other to spin. Interpolating or "Fixing" these parts of the replays will mean a car will look like it's side by side with another, and then just veers off awkwardly, or looks like it was rammed, when it really wasn't... Otherwise, it is a good idea.

If the data from each car is recorded individually and it not depending on the data from other cars (i.e. only the position of a car is recorded, and things like draft and contact with other cars is not calculated in the replay file) it should be possible to add and delete individual cars from the replay file.

I imagine that's what it would take: you only keep the first person data from each replay, delete the data of the other cars, and then merge (adding them all together) all the first person data into a single replay file.

How about giving us a replay system where we can forward and re-wind.

Try using the current replay system on a Endurance race (at least 1hr, if not 2hr) with a near full lobby/room, and you're a steward/official in an online series and have to check everyone's driving to ensure rules are being followed. You can only skip 1 lap at a time, and the point where it skips changes throughout the race.

It takes 5 times longer to do this than the race itself..

Then there's the turning off all visual info, only can be done in race, not replay - can't be switched on / off in replay.

As always with gt5 V's GT6 - lets get the basics right first.
