Mini Cup 04: Race 2

"Mini" Cup 04

Race 2

Circuit: Deep Forest 2 (Arcade Mode, Free run), best single hot lap time. (make sure you are on Deep Forest Reverse... and not on Deep Forest)

Tires: Your choice of Racing Slick (T3) or Racing Soft (T7), but remember which-ever tire you choose this week means you MUST run the other when we get to Cote d' Azur in 2 weeks. Choose wisely.

Drivier Aids: Both TC and ASM MUST be turned off (both set to "0").

Time Deadline: PM final time AND sectors to me (Scuderia229) by 12:00am (midnight) Eastern Standard Time - Sunday, April 25th, 2004. Don't forget to submit your "T" times from your submitted lap AND this week your tire choice.

Max Points Available: 12 (circuit has 2 sectors)

Time Discussion: All "T" Times. (DO NOT discuss lap times in the race threads)

SERIES FORMAT & RULES

A four race series using the Mini Cooper 1.3i done in homage of classic mid 1960's Mini Cooper S racing. We will be racing at the following circuits;

Race 1 (April 12-18, 2004): Smokey Mountain
Race 2 (April 19-25, 2004): Deep Forest 2
Race 3 (April 26 - May 2, 2004): Swiss Alps
Race 4 (May 3-9, 2004): Cote d' Azur

Races will all be single hot lap races run in the Arcade/Free Run Mode. Racers will have one full week to get their best time. All times are due before midnight (12:00am) EST (I am in New York City) on the final day of the race (always Sunday night). All times (final times AND sectors) are submitted via PM to me, Scuderia229.

The general rules are as follows (same as the weekly);

1. You must have 2 tires on the track at all times.
2. The rumble strips are considered part of the track.
3. No wall riding or touching.
4. No cutting the grass or short cutting.
5. No hybrids
6. No cheating of any kind.

Time Discussion: All "T" Times. (DO NOT discuss lap times in the race threads)

A x-port/sharkport is not needed for this race series but is prefered, otherwise you may be asked for your logger data to validate your lap time. I know most people in this series and this should not be an issue but please do not try to cheat. .XPS/.SPS files may be posted in the "Results" thread each week.

Car Specs: A Simulation Mini Cooper 1.3i...fully modified (178bhp). If you don't have the car (and don't have an x-port) it may be won in the Amateur League in the "European Championship". You will NOT be allowed to turn on both TC or ASM, both must be turned off for ALL racing (it is automatically off for rally events). Otherwise you can tune the car and adjust anything you want (no hybrids though), don't forget oil changes.

Tires: Each racer will have the three tire options below;
- Racing Slick (T3)
- Rally (two sets of these for the 2 rally races)
- Racing Soft (T7)

Racers will have to choose which tire to run on which circuit. If you run the "soft" (T7) tires on week two you MUST run the "slick" (T3) tires on week four, or vis-versa. Week one and three are rally races and you have only the rally tire option.

You MAY NOT mix the tires either (i.e. running soft up front and hard in back)...what you run on the front must be the same as the back....all 4 tires must be the same.

Please do not discuss your tire choices in the race thread, though from your sector times it may be obvious.

Points: This will be a points series. Points will break down as below;

1st = 10pts
2nd = 8pts
3rd = 6pts
4th = 5pts
5th = 4pts
6th = 3pts
7th = 2pts
8th = 1pt

Additionally 1pt will be awarded each week for EACH fastest sector. So a racer could come in 2nd overall but they also have the fastest T2 sector so they take home 9pts total for the week.

The overall series winner is the one who has the MOST points at the end of the four races. A tie in points would be broken by whoever has the faster four race combined time. If that still results in a tie the racer with more fastest sector time bonus points will win.

Weekly races will be determined by the fastest time (not points). So 1st place could post the fastest time, win the week and get 10pts but second place could be .020 slower overall but have the fastest T1 and T2 sectors and equal the 10pts for the week.

Feel free to submit times each week and/or join in as you like and race just for fun....

T's so far 24.920 / 54.288

Sure...by all means. You can post anything you want except tire choice and your final time...

I'm kinda curious how people are going to discuss the tire issue. It should be sorta obvious over the "T" times...but who knows...

Remember you can't give away your tire choice!

:mischievous:

have fun and see you on the finish line!

Bumper 2 bumper with NielsG at the moment:
T1 24.6 T2 53.3

@Scud229-sorry bro,thought the deadline for race's was the same as the weeklies,my bad:banghead:

In this week for sure;)

I'm at 24.702 / 53.524 after my first session. I thought I had the lap nailed, but it looks like I need to do a bit more tuning as I'm a smidgen behind:embarrassed:

I have a question for Scudiera: the race at Cote d'azur will not have tire wear, correct? I just wanna make sure before I make my final tire choice. I just don't want you to spring a 20 lapper on us and some of us get stuck running on T7's:lol:

Nope....Cote is a 1 lapper, as are all the races. My idea isn't about tire wear, rather grip levels and how they optimize to a given circuit and/or which one YOU feel you are better at....

:-)

I tested this tire thing alot, it makes a HUGE difference, trust me. Choose wisely.

25.347 / 55.585

Just took my same Mini from last week with the same settings, added my tire choice, and ran a few laps this morning....not bad for no settings but alot of room to get faster....

Take the "T" times with a grain of salt this week guys. You don't know which tires people are running (you can't discuss that)...

:)

25.110 / 54.831

I'm getting there.....though i seem not to be able to figure the Mini out setting-wise as i once thought i could....

It is raining out tonight so I will get some more running time tonight.

Just to make sure it is clear for everyone.

You only have 2 tire options this week. T3s and T7s. You MUST run one of those tires this week (front and back) and which ever tire you don't run this week you will HAVE to use when we get to Cote d' Azur in 2 weeks. So if you are running T7s this week and planning on running T7s at Cote.....you can't

Any tire questions PM me if i am not clear.

Also remember not to discuss tire choice and to submit your tire choice with your final time and sectors when you PM me.

:)

Hello guys, I'm only joining the Cup now after having missed race 1 (I had never looked at the Online Racing section, I stupidly thought it was 'online'). I was rather happy during my first laps, because my times were similar to yours. T1 : 24'6 - T2 : 53'4.
Then I did what is still my best lap so far, but with T1 : 25'0 and T2 : 53'7. I just did a better final part of the lap, about which I cannot tell anything. Since that, my mood shifted from rather happy and satisfied :D to almost depressed :( : I know I can get 0.4 on part 1 only, but any time I did so I just lost all of it.
BTW, I'm rather proud of my gearbox settings anyway ; flat-out in 6th gear, I reach the cut-off at the time when I start braking.
Some unuseful info before I go back on the track : my top speed is 121 mph and my Mini is 'Surf Blue'.;)

Welcome to the competition, flat-out. :)

Latest:
24.3
52.5
Still a few tenth left on the track, but I doubt I'm consistent enough to pick them up. Anyway I'll give it one last try tomorrow night.

Thanks NielsG.
I practiced a little bit more, and I'm back in the 24'7 / 53'4. One more evening and that'll be ok for this race.

Ok, last evening is over for me. I bought today an official Sony controller to replace my wireless controller, and the quality difference is huge. From the first lap I was already within my best times, and after 3 hours practice I got T1 = 24'4 and T2 = 52'8. It's a pity I'm done with it, I started to really enjoy this track. (I usually ran it the other way around)

Time submitted.

No time this week so I left a lot of time on the track. It is ok, as I am really here for next week.:D

Good Luck Everyone.:)

I have a few times so far....don't forget guys... tonight at midnight EST is the deadline for your times.

Make sure you submit your final time, 2 "T" times from that same lap AND what tires you ran.....

I'll have the results posted by 1am EST tonight....

ok guys...I am going to have to post the results in the morning, around 10am EST. I got all the times this week but one of them seems like the person submitted a lap from the wrong circuit and i want to give him the benefit of the doubt...since it is one of the leaders....

so util then...look for them in the morning.

Sorry. I'll have next weeks race posted then too....we are off to the Swiss Alps!
