Alright.

The fate of an official network mode being included in GT4 isn't looking too bright.

So.. xLink it is.

If you have everything you need (high-speed internet, PS2 modem, a router/second network card, all the necessary cables, and the game itself) please sign up here if you haven't already and read the Quick Start Guide to learn how to set up your network.

Any networking related questions, please save for the Official xLink forums.

You can log into those forums with your xLink username and password after you have registered.

Now, onto the my main reason for creating this thread.

The List.

I started a list similar to this on the xLink forums, but I lost the love at 50 applicants.
It's currently hovering at the top of the Playstation 2 forum.
People still stating their existence despite my disinterest in continuing on that forum.

My goal is to create a list of GTPlanet users, here, with their GTP names, their xLink usernames, and their countries, for the sake of organizing and forming an actual ONLINE RACING community. Hence the acronym OLR.

(Please organize Online Races and 1 vs. 1 battles in their respective forums or via private messages. This is merely a 'team' or group of people specializing in actual Online Racing. Feel free to post links to threads involving such events on this thread, but otherwise, let's keep this clean. Thank you for cooperating.)

If you're interested in getting onto this list, assuming you have registered, and have successfully set up your xLink network, please state your presence and give the following information using the format below. I will give an example in the post following the list.

GTP Username - xLink Username (Country)

If you live in the United States or Canada, also
please specify whether you are located on the
East or West coast, as this can greatly affect the
quality of your online gameplay.

Once people catch on and the list starts populating like the one on the xLink forums did, you will all be getting invites and challenges in no time. Just keep an eye on this thread, as things will pick up in pace rather quickly.

Onto the list!

text file and add the code to your signature (sans the question mark
if you wish.)

Nice.

Yeah, I'll have it tomorrow.

I'm getting a PS2 Modem as well so we'll see if I can find another person to test it with once it's set up within the next few days.

spooony - spooony (Canada East)

If someone closeby wants to try out GT4 on xlink just PM me here :) I won't be able to play until next week though because I'm too busy right now.

I signed up, but only so no one else could play with my name. I seriously doubt I'll use it more than just to see how it works.

Welcome to GTPlanet, BerinG!

Glad you could join us.

Just waiting for tomorrow to play this thing :P

I'm on Vancouver island, from what I've read you need a ping of 40ms or better for a smooth game, I found a user on Xlink (not a GT4 player though) who was in Washington, we had 37-40ms ....this was very exciting for me, I thought I would be stuck playin people on the island, this is awesome, now all I need is a router, and GT4 on the 23rd..damn canada havin to wait an extra day. (at least all the places I've called are saying the 23rd...even though I argued the 22nd...they said "oh my sony rep this my sony rep that"..so i dunno.

What!?

Why should we have to wait an extra day?

Did even Electronics Boutique say the 23rd?

I meant to phone today but I didn't get in until after 10:00.

MAN- I was stoked cuz all I could see was 22nd 22nd 22nd.

Even just one more day is gonna make me freak out at them.

P.S.
What part of the island are you from?
I lived in Victoria for a few years as a tot, then basically grew up in a place called Sooke.

*List updated*

Yeah 2 different EB told me 23rd.. futureshop told me 24th, toyrus told me this week.. video store told me 23rd, video game store told me 23rd..

actually the last 2 told me they would get it today but on shelves tomorrow.. i dont understand why if they are in, they are in.. doesnt take one day

I think EBgames gets their shipments late at night and stocks the shelves just before opening.

But that's stupid.

They had some big event for the release of Halo 2, and that game is garbage.

Like they got it at midnight and sold it until 3:00am.

If it didn't take so bloody long to make GT4, people wouldn't have forgotten about how immensely popular GT3 was when it first came out, and people like myself would have it before I go to bed tonight (tomorrow..), and if I got it before I went to bed, I probably wouldn't go to bed.

It's like Santa giving Christmas to the americans one day earlier this year.

If it was the other way around, the only solution would be war.

:irked:

Just got back from work, and my wife picked up GT4 in all it's glory and it has been just sitting here on my counter waiting for me......let's go !!!

so do I race with my DFP on a 27" tv in my basement driving simulator....

or do I race upstairs with a controller....on a 60" Sony Grand Vega LCD in 16:9 high definition......

Word Slurp, from now on I am setting my hopes to a day after the so-called release date!

I'll be buying an adapter tomorrow when I get my game... I can't wait to try out online, man I'm really excited that someone figured it out :) What a cool dimension to be added to Gran Turismo.

Apparently EBgames has reinstated a old offer that lets you trade-in three games that are worth at least $10 (to you) and they'll give you GT4 at no dollar cost.

I was gonna do this like 5 months ago but they cancelled the offer before I could get around to it.

So, I guess we'll see if they're still doing it when I get up there tomorrow.

Plus, as I said, I'm getting a PS2 Network Adaptor as well, so once I get used to the physics in GT4 and maybe do enough races to get an Evo 8 or WRX-R and mess around with it, then I'll set up my Adaptor and see if I can't jump into a race on Kai.

After which, I'll write a review of the toils and spoils of the process.

Quick question about how this works, i'm assuming it works like xbconnect in the sense that you use your PC as a server, correct?

Sorry guys, I no longer have any interest in continuing to promote this idea.

The multiplayer is too inconsistent and the the drop in frame rate is unacceptable.

By my standards at least.

If you would like to take over, please PM me and I'll upload a text file of the first and second post to my site so you can use the code to make a new thread.

Otherwise, this thread is closed.

Thank-you to those who showed interest.

-B.
